Its a new season. A fresh start. Lots of ways to look at it. Being 500 wont get us the rebuild and we will be stuck again next year with a lets hope for 84 wins kinda team.
Definitely need that 5th starter if it's not inhouse then we really need to be active before the deadline and probably another reliever n yeah the lineup is what it is if we hit the pitching has been way better than I thought at the beginning of the year so we're at 500 it's time to think we can at least get a wildcard if not more

I'm still hoping we add another quality starter. You never know when one or two guys are going to get hurt and we're already thin as can be. Every injury shouldn't be scramble time.
Through all the ups and downs, we have needed another pitcher that is Sonny Gray quality. They have Prieto and Suggesse for the Crawford position...
In order to get a “Sonny Gray quality” pitcher, they are going to have to give up either a quality position player from the current major league roster, or one or more of their top minor league prospects. Dylan Carlson isn’t going to get it done.
They need another stud starter. Not a 5th starter. Even if it's just a rental ... if we hit like we are and get Wilson back ... And have a playoff rotation of Gray and Another top guy ... Then you might be able to get deep w match up starts - between Gibson. Lynn. Pallante. Mikolas
If they are at .500 or a little better at the deadline, they could use another decent starting pitcher and a right handed bench bat.
Maybe 5th pitcher (not sure if Pallante will work yet). Would love if they could magically find another strong hitter to add to their roster that's also a good third base 😅 or outfielder.
To quote everybody's favorite POBO "Pitching Pitching Pitching". We definitely need a 5th starter and ideally you get that by getting a guy who can instantly be a number 2 behind Sonny. And you can definitely add a piece or two in the pen. It would be a hard sell especially if the Cardinals are playing well and especially to Arenado since he has that pesky no trade clause but I would be shopping him hard. Id be trying to see which teams might still be willing to pay a premium for him. And if any of those teams happen to be higher in the standings and or in his home state maybe he allows it to go through. And depending on the package I'd be willing to make that trade for a prospect package that might not even include a current MLB player. I just think it'd be best to try and get as much value as you can and it would allow Walker to return to third base. Which gets rid of the who sits in the outfield dilemma when he returns.
A 2 would be great
They need more than they have the capital for. Big bat, number two starter and a reliever.

They will need to if the owner wants to win a playoff spot and be competitive in the post season. Will he? Highly unlikely.
First: yeah the team made it to .500. They now face the Phillies! this is their toughest test this yr. They must win 2/3 to show they are for real. If they cant beat the Phillies, then that's a big problem(its a team they would likely have to face IF they somehow make the playoffs).
Yes, they need more pitching, but the hitters MUST be more consistent driving in runs and less strikeouts. Outfield has to hit better, Nolan and Goldy have to do better. The have not arrived yet. Next 10-15 games will determine what kind of team they are, starting with this weekend!!!!!

They need a starter, A good one, and a reliever to help fortify the 7th and 8th innings. The lineup is pretty much what you have in the majors or minors, Mo has painted them into a corner. Now they have to keep playing well and I'm a ways off of buying in yet.
In order to get what you want, they are going to have to give up one or more players you don’t want to see leave. That’s just the way it works. To get quality, you have to give up quality.
Any teams trading those type of players now, will want young players, mostly minor leaguers because the Cardinals only have two young players on the roster and neither of them are going anywhere.
If they move Carlson, they could get Bader back. Need 2 starters from somewhere. Pallante filling in the 5th role and holding it down for the whole year would be the biggest clutch of the year. I won't hold my breath.
Only problem is that Carlson has to prove he is valuable. Hoping he does.
I don't see how moving Carlson gets them Bader off another roster.
Yeah go and trade all the god talent.the they can go a decade without winning.but that will keep you drsma queens happy
Pitching
I never stopped hoping for the team's success, just got tired of being attacked for saying anything positive. Most of these comments sections are filled with angry fans that will shout down anyone that dares express hope or optimism.
i think alot of fans are just not happy with the direction of the team the last few yrs, and last yr just really pissed them off. They were expecting a better start. This weekend will be a BIG test for them

Enough with the 83-85 talk. Win the division and move on from there. Losing Middleton is big. Hats off to his agent who put one over getting a broken player money. Edmundo Sosa took over after Turner went down around a month ago and the Phillies haven’t lost a step. Notice how Flaherty is now an ace and Hicks is well on his way.
