it's great to see other bands that have similar recording approaches to the Beatles, and the fact that they used abbey road studio to mix the song gave me similar beatles vibes, especially they are beatles instruments involved,(george's sg and john's lap steel pedal). i think that's my new favourite Badfinger song
You think you’d be able to do “Matted Spam” by Badfinger. Maybe even do the sax solo on guitar? It’s a very funk-style rock tune you should def check out!
I love this so much! In my opinion the best Badfinger song and one of my all time favorite pieces of music. I tried covering this a few years ago but I couldn't find a decent full band cover anywhere on UA-cam to guide me, so I had to go blindly and improvise some parts. This one however is a really great cover and shows every minute detail of the song. Very accurate and well done!
Great song and such a fun one to play. Thanks for the background info! Joey lives very near me in Minnesota and I'm hoping to get the chance to meet him.
Sam--l've loved this song ever since it first aired in 1970. Finally, its mysteries are solved! I've NEVER seen anyone anywhere get ALL the guitar parts ight! Thank you!!!!
One of the first patches I programmed into my Alesis Quadraverb GT was the Leslie tone for this song. As Foghorn Leghorn used to say, "There's something eeeeeeeehyah about a boy that don't like Badfinger."
Most excellent. When my buddies and I used to get together to play Beatle songs, this song got included, just because. We had to mouth the slide guitar part, though!
Such as great execution! Just one thing: even though Joey played lead on Baby Blue and No Matter What (and on other songs), Pete was also a lead guitarist in the group. Just wanted to mention. One last thing: the fact that it was played on a lap steel is SO COOL.
Superb! I never hear a cover of this. U sound like an orginal Badfinger (boogie😂)!I can take a "Midnight Sun" or "Rock of all ages" if u can covered this onces... Sorry 4 my English 😅, greetings from Poland, Paul 👍🤩✌️
Excellent cover! I always enjoy doing this with my band. I am curious though, I thought Tom Evans played a Jazz Bass on this song, as I'd seen him play one in the video.
This is my favorite Badfinger song (you turned me onto them after your Day After Day cover). You guys did awesome! I never knew the solo was a lap steel, do you think it was the Hofner used on For You Blue? I thought John owned that guitar and would have kept it.
Pete Ham wrote a song so good that people came up with a theory that Paul McCartney wrote it. Great cover as always.
Absolutely fab cover gents! The guitars sound sooooo good, like I'm in the room with amps cranked!
Wow thanks! Means a lot coming from you
Couldn’t agree more!
@@sampopkinCan you do Maybe Tomorrow next?
F**K YEAH GUYS! you look cool as f**k, play like gods and clearly have incredible taste. Hail, hail Rock & Roll fellas!
Wow!! Just amazing! This sounds so great! Thanks for taking the request. I’ll quit bugging you now. 😊

Brilliant! right down to the muted bass string click during the "silent" break at the end. awesome
Thanks Doug!
Great work, gents! This has always been a favorite of mine. It was inevitable you’d get to this one!
This is awesome. Please do Without You by Badfinger . It Will be cool
Damn I wish I had friends like these.😎🍺
Great job, as usual. I love seeing the SG and Firebird. Joey still has his Firebird.
great impersonation of Joey Molland
I loved blasting this song in high school!
this is one of the closest covers I’ve ever heard, genuinely spot on dude. I’d pay just to get a book on all the recording techniques you use
Thanks man ❤️
Inspired me to listen to "Hand Me Down World" by the Guess Who. Thanks, Sam.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Badfinger and this song. I am impressed by how accurate this cover is, it really captures the vibes of the original.
You've done en excellent job on this !!

Amazing cover of a perfect song. Love Andrew's firebird too!

Cool slide!
You had me singing along, fellas! Testament to a brilliant cover. Thanks.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day sam ❤😊
Nicely done. Saw them perform this live in one of their last iterations, and this was better!
Most excellent. When my buddies and I used to get together to play Beatle songs, this song got included, just because. We had to mouth the slide guitar part, though!
Even the handclaps!
Sounds Great 😊, love the Firebird
I had a firebird bass. wish I could get a epiphone or Gibson guitar one.
I just found this song a week a ago and I've been listening to it probably 15 times now. Yesterday I found and subbed to your channel😂
I’ve always loved this song and its production.
Beautiful work, as always
Wowww!!
Bloody marvelous!

Could the next one be "without you"?
Excellent cover! I always enjoy doing this with my band. I am curious though, I thought Tom Evans played a Jazz Bass on this song, as I'd seen him play one in the video.
That was from a later clip from 72 I believe. P Bass was his earlier instrument
Mister Sam please If you can play Day after Day by Badfinger. Is very beatifull song...
Already covered it! Go check it out

I think it is the Hofner! It stayed behind at Savile row and abbey road
@@sampopkin Are there any photos of it at Abbey Road/Savile Row post-Get Back sessions?
@@fenderfan05 not that I know of. But it went for auction last year, you can see pictures of it. It apparently remained in abbey road till 1981

@@sampopkin Would be very cool if it is the same lap steel on For You Blue!
Love this song. We used to open our shows with it. (You do it better, though. 😂)
The Lex pedal for the Leslie part on bridge?
Yep!
Always thought that was the greatest guitar into Leslie tone ever recorded!
Big Star had a similar sound, that seems to be influenced by this.
Sam do some Big Star next…Ballad of El Goodo!
More Badfinger, Meanwhile back at ranch
What are you playing through for the Leslie effect? Sounds just like the recording.
Strymon Lex pedal
Are you used the Doctor Robert pedal ?
No, check my description where I go into details of pedals and rigs
Is that a Fender Firebird?
Gibson Firebird
Are both guitars in tune with each others, I hear a slight dissonance?
Possible they are just slightly out of tune
