    Your video has been really helpful during my T56 build. I’m no assembling the transmission, but I don’t know where the detent ball went. Do you remember where it went?

    After watching this I'm very confident that I'm taken it to a transmission specialist..

    Very nice video. I'm still not sure I want to tackle this job in my Viper. My T56 pops out of reverse and grinds on 1-2 and 2-3 sometimes.

    Hi from New Zealand Chris!
    Thank you for these great videos, they are seriously helpful for me with my rebuild! Question for you... Did you ever get a conclusive answer on whether the 1st-2nd syncro slide hub is symmetrical? My 2nd gear side is a little worn and I was thinking if it is symmetrical then I'd prefer to turn it around to put the wear on the 1st gear side. Parts are expensive and hard to come by here so short buying a new one from the US and paying twice the price of the part on taxes and freight I'm reasonably willing to find out!?...
    Cheers,
    Sean

    Hey curious if I have a t56 laying around thats told to be bad. Based off these videos would I be able to rebuild it my self if I do have all the tools needed?

      Sorry -- it's kind of hard to give you any answer without knowing what's wrong with the unit you have.

    I have one apart out of a 2003 Holden v8 ute with 260000Kms and its a mess even thought he initial problem was no reverse gear. It pushed off the reverse mainshaft retaining circlip. Mind it looked clean enough inside. I needs a new mainshaft -(spline loose under 5/6 gear) 5/6 gear- bore and spline worn, Reverse hub and circlip, Extension 5/6 cluster imprinted under 6 gear. Don't have any specs and the end float on 1st gear is .040, 2nd is .030, and 3rd is .024 and that seems way too much to me?? Can't see where the wear is making this endfloat . Any suggestions?

    Hey bro what is the part number of the puller you used?

      @SlideruleRacingProducts  6 років тому +1

      Not sure of part number. All of the pullers I have came from Harbor Freight, including the 12 ton hydraulic jobbie.

    Hi Chris, at 8:46 you grab a spacer, do you know if all the T56 include it? mine is a LT1 and I'm 99.99% that doesn´t had any of them when disasassembly it and the case looked like factory sealed, any opinions please, regards.

    Hello I have a Holden Commodore SSV 2006 with the T56 6speed manual. I have lost 5th & 6th gear, but still have reverse. The gears lock in 5 & 6 just doesn't engage. Its as if it were in neutral. Just Revs out. Could this be mainshaft issue, which is common on these gearbox's. Any help or information would be good. Thanks

      @SlideruleRacingProducts  2 роки тому

      I don't know what you mean by "the gears lock but don't engage". If you only lost 5th and 6th and all other gears work smoothly, then it's probably not mainshaft.

      Basic with bearings from 3rd Gen Hawks.com. Shown in the first video. Good luck!

    Good videos. How did you know how far onto the shaft to press the 1-2 and 3-4 synchros.

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  8 років тому +1

      If you look at 5:20, you'll see the shaft has a step in it. That step is where the gears are pressed up against to on each side.

    • @jvan100
      @jvan100 8 років тому

      More concerned with the gap between the gears and synchros. Manual says to mark the synchro position before removing. Then to check engagement when pressing on to avoid pressing too close. I was hoping there might be a measurement you knew of in case the last guy in mine didn't get it right. The complaint he had was it was hard to get into second.

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  8 років тому

      +jvan100 I'm afraid you may be misreading the manual. I believe the reason the manual says to mark the syncro rings is so that you reassemble it with the same teeth engaging the mating teeth as when it was assembled the 1st time. You actually don't need a 'press' to assemble the synchros - you can do it by hand. The reason that the manual says to 'press' it to a certain point and stop, is to properly engage the keys and retaining rings during reassembly. Once assembled, the synchro rings actually slide back and forth, so their exact position is immaterial as long as the keys and rings are installed correctly.

    How many miles were on this transmission?

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  3 роки тому +1

      I don't have my records handy but it was somewhere around 120K miles. (Car had 175K miles, but the trans had been replaced under warranty around 50K miles). I drove it for another 30K miles before selling the car.

    I have a problem on my transmission is that making a noise on first, second, third, fifth and sixth except the fourth
    And some of the shop told me that it's from the input shaft bearing and the countershaft and I have to replace them!
    Do you have any idea about this problem?

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  8 років тому +1

      +Ealmalayu
      Hi Ealmalayu,
      Well, in 4th gear, the shift forks engage the 4th gear synchronizer and essentially lock the mainshaft and the input shaft together. In this state, the countershaft is still spinning, but it is not under load. To be clear, I'm not a transmission tech, but the advice you received seems at least probably incorrect.
      If I had to guess, I would say that it's probably the *countershaft bearing* that is a problem. The transmission would really need to be disassembled to determine if any shaft needed to be replaced, but the failure of the countershaft bearing does not predicate the need to change any shafts.
      Hope this helps. Good luck!

      Thank you so much bro for your response
      Ok, dose the countershaft bearing can be replaced or should I replace the hole countershaft? And do think no need to replace the input shaft so how should I check on it?
      In addition, I have a noise problem when keep the transmission on natural a release the clutch but if press the clutch the noise gone! Do you have any idea about that?
      Although, I bought the transmission after it was rebuilt and installed a new Meclaod clutch

    Wondering if this is a common problem because I'm planning on buying this transmission new soon and don't want to have these problems

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  8 років тому

      Hi Ricky - I don't know how common it is. My guess is that most people who might 'have' the problem aren't even aware of it unless they beat on the engine. It's certainly not widely reported as a common failure, but a lot of folks who have torn down their T56 have seen loose 5/6 gears.

      +Chris Bruno I'm trying to buy the t56 magnum pushing 800hp that's why I'm concerned if the magnums also have this problem. I hear God things about them holding major power not planning on doing any digs more rolling starts
