Well, technically you don't need to whitelist ore. You can just not blacklist anything and enable drain all. The drones will only have ore in them anyway. But good job on this one.
Designing automated mining drones was one of my first memories of playing Space Engineers back in 2014. That was way before planets were introduced, I never thought of using automated drones on a planet before! Thats awesome! I think the outside view is available only in crative mode as a spectator. If you play survival you need to use the cameras. On the first toolbar there're cameras for control LCD, bottom, top and front.
Stick a passenger seat on it and remote control it from there, then you can use the 3rd person view, makes them easier to setup if you can fly with them.
@Da Wendekind place passenger seat, sit in it, make sure your suits antenna is on, assume remote control of the ship via the k menu as normal and you'll be able to use the 3rd person view
Only issue is this uses programming blocks. Which aren't active on official servers. I've been working on basic automated drones that don't use programming blocks. Just timers and RC. Only issue is they rely on waypoints and trying to get this to work on planets may be challenging.
Everything seems to work great, except even when I admin build the drone nothing goes into the large container. The drills fill up and it will mine the job with nothing but what it can hold in the drills... I haven't been able to figure out why the large container isn't "connected" - Otherwise this is awesome!
everytime the drone undocks the sorters are turned off so i have to chase after it to turn them back on otherwise it keeps drilling without filling the main cargo containers
Excellent video, set up a couple in my current world on survival, everything was fantastic until I moved one of the drones, it's now decided it's max weight limit is 200g less than it's empty weight, so as soon as it starts mining, the moment the drills touch, it flies all the way back to base, then goes back to the drill site, to repeat the same issue over and over. The other drone I have moved work site several times and it runs perfectly (it's max weight is over double it's empty weight as the both drones used to be), both of them were printed from a projector so I don't really know what's going on... please... help :D I have double and triple checked that all the engines are in full working order, and the batteries are also fine. Does Depth effect the total carry weight? That's the only thing I changed (gold I wanted was deep) - I moved the same drone to try and gather some shallow ice and it's back up and running, although it barely gathers anything before returning, but at least it's mining...
This was excellent to follow thanks! However, I cannot figure out my issue. I setup my dock pretty close to the same exact way you did, dock the drone, begin recording path to the ore. No issues there. However, when it returns home, it sit on the bottom platform below my connector and tries to dock downwards instead of upwards. I can take control and manually fight with it to go upwards and dock and the same thing happens when it returns home again. No idea what is going on but I'll keep trying.
I figured this out. The script requires minimum 8 blocks space below the connector that is set to home. I previously had 7 and it kept getting stuck on the floor.
I have been using these mining drones in every playthrough I play, now this last time my drone is constantly tipping over when he starts the job, he flies to and from the site in a straigth line, but once he goes down vertically he thrust to one side very fast and just tips. My programmable block goes into State: Flying to XY position 63526m the moment he goes down vertically Any ideas? I tried disabling all the gyroscopes but that doesnt seem to have done anything at all
First, I love this mining drone ship. It is beautiful and fly's like a dream. Your design is exquisite and your video, as usual, is very helpful and informative. I have read through all of the comments under this video and I found two people with what appears to be the same problem I am having. However, there were no reply to their post. You always help everyone, so that makes me think there may not be a fix. I hope not because I really want to use this drone. I have made a short video (ua-cam.com/video/C-q8PPCsi8Y/v-deo.html) to show the issue but essentially, the drone seems to be using the right click and just blasting through everything and collecting no ore. The drills fill up with stone and then when it gets to the vane of ore the drills fill up with some ore but mostly stone and then nothing makes it to the cargo containers. Even though I have the ejectors tuned on and the behavior of PAM set to eject stone Drop off and the sorter on, they do not eject until I stop the job and then the stone begins to eject and the small amount of ore gets pushed to the medium cargo container, but if I don't stop the job it just blast through everything and collects no more ore then what is in the drills. In this short video I show you my settings and exactly whats happens. You helped me resolve my issues with the 3D printer and I hope we can solve this because I love this miner!!! Hi @docsnmschannel335, I hope you're doing great! Thank you very much for the video, it made very easy for me to troubleshoot the problem. The solution would be to toggle Behavior settings -> Ejection and Behavior settings -> Toggle sorters OFF, and make sure that all the conveyor sorters are turned ON in the K-menu. The reason is I bypassed those settings by design(physically creating an ejection system independent from PAM) to use connector for ejecting stone (I believe that PAM is not able to do that itself). Enabling those options may completely stop ejection, and make the drone to collect all the stone. As for the main cargo container collecting issue - please make sure that all the sorters are turned ON, and sorters from the group "Main Cargo Sorters" (sorter 13, 14, 19, 20) are set to Blacklist stone, and the rest of them to whitelist it (to effectively eject and direct other types of ore to the cargo containers. It's my bad, I should have mentioned that on the item page earlier. Thank you for the feedback though!

Well, That did work. However, the Medium cargo container was full 3,375, but the large container only filled up to 6,600.81 of the total 15,625 and then the drone came home. I did have the load max at 70 %. I just raised it to 80% and will see what happens. However, it did work. Thank you. That was just one hole, so I know it is working now.
Great to hear that it worked. Regarding the cargo issue - PAM considers drills as cargo containers as well, so maybe the drone was filled to 70% already without the large container being full?
I feel like this is supposed to be a good video it's nice and short however I don't know how to start a mining job. You just say, start mining job in the video without first instructing how to do so. Ahh I went to another video learned more. Came back tho seems I just needed to read the description to realize this was using scripts. I haven't dabbled in that for this yet but I guess if I want to have this set up I'll have to but it doesn't seem like this is possible on keens servers sadly.
I only wish that there was more information on what the drone needs. I'm just learning, and I feel like other videos aren't as concise. It's like a 30 min + vid just to learn some basic information. ; n;
Maybe late but took this blueprint. And somehow the ores are not collecting. Its just mining non stop cargo at lets say 30% full and then stops colleting but still mining
Awesome! I'm glad you made it! To stop it from dropping stone: Get to toolbar no. 2 Turn Off ejectors Get to k-menu and reset the sorters settings (active filters list empty and set to blacklist).
Wow you showed me how to do exactly what I wanted in under 5 minutes. Every other SE creator has to spill their guts for 45 minutes and most the time dont even show how to do what they say in the title..
Great tutorial and very nice drone! Unfortunately, I get this problem: I keep losing my drones. They work just fine for a couple of runs, then they just fall to the bottom of the pit and explode. I don't know why, perhaps they have too much cargo? They run out of power? I've not touched the default settings for that, so I find it very strange. It takes both time and resources to build new ones too. Any ideas?
The first thing that's coming to my mind could be a problem with cargo overload. That would be weird though if they do a few runs before that. Another thing could be too many calculations causing the game to shut down all the scripts due to lack of memory. Does it happen with only 1 drone as well? I suspect that it may be the issue because somebody before reported to me that the script was quite heavy and was sometimes causing problems with memory. If that's not that, maybe try to check if they run out of battery. May be the case too. If yes, then change minimum battery limit to around 30%. It may happen like that if the drone needs to do longer runs with cargo. Else let me know and we'll try to figure it out.
If your using them on a a planet that isnt earthlike, the thrusters may not be strong enough to deal with the changes in weight. My friend tried to use one on a higher gravity, lower atmosphere planet, and it just got stuck doing 1 second of mining and then heading back because it couldnt hold itself up
When "Recording Path and Setting Home" my "1", "2" and "3" buttons do not work. They show "Not Allowed". Any smart people out there know how to fix this?
It looks like the in-game scripts are disabled. To enable in-scripts - from the main menu press load game-> edit settings of your world -> advanced -> in-game scripts enabled. That should do the trick.
I used this machine just now to mine rock but all it’s doing is spitting rock out and keeps digging, I wanted to have it take the rock back to my refinery but it keeps spitting out rock
On the main page of the item there's an instruction on how to keep the stone inside. Initially the drone was designed to keep only the ore, that is why after setting everything like in the instruction, it will still eject some stone, but only from the connector and drills storage space. The rest of the stone placed in the cargo containers will be unloaded to your base
Yes, you can. To do that enter the drone's k-menu, find all the sorters, set them to blacklist and remove everything from the active filters tab. It should collect everything from this point.

Hey, try placing hydrogen output just behind the connector before conveyor sorter. For some reason SE sometimes does not allow hydrogen to get through conveyor sorter even though it should. Let me know if that worked, please
I set these up on my server but when controlling the drone the menu keys dont work I've tried repgramming them but they dont affect the LCD at all. Many sad
i have a problem i always get the message: Last Eject Failed and it always keeps ore or stone getting stuck in one drill or in the small sorters does someone have a solution for this problem because if it is not empty it won't start again
With the Pam script I have the problem that I can only have one drone cause Any other drone after that switches to shuttle and I can’t switch it back anyone have the solution?

It seems like it didn't unload the cargo or can't recharge the batteries. Could you check what does the interface screen say? It always displays the status of the drone, it could give me a clue of what's happening with it
the drones keep running out of power they seem not to be charging just dropping off ore then flying back I always find them out of power in the hole they are digging any idea why?
Or the gravity is higher than 1g and they try to take more ore than they can, and thus they are not able to lift off, so the maximum weight may need to be adjusted as well. Also when setting up the job try to align them with the planet's gravity

How do you toggle it to not drop stone and deposit the stone? Whenever I turn off the ejectors and the conveyor that says STONE EJECTION off and turn off the throw out option it wont deposit it. Could really use a hand not sure how to resolve. Works otherwise but I need stone rn.
You need to clear the conveyor sorters filter list and set them all to "blacklist". Please note that it will still drop the stone but only until there's none in the drills, while there will be around 52k inside of the containers. It works that way because I've never thought that there will be a demand for mining a stone. I underappreciated that ore.
Hey pro, me and my friends got this set up pretty easy at first, once we built our second and third one we came to a problem, when we got to control it and press 4 it says fatal setup error and remote is missing, we made sure everything was built each step of the way but no luck, could you answer this problem?
Gday, I have built a drone on my survival world and got it working except when ever it comes back to base, it doesn’t unload anything. I’ve watched the video many times and got it all the same and even read some comments, any idea why it wouldn’t be unloading? Cheers. But aside from that bloody good stuff!!
Hey George, there may be a few reasons for that: - no conveyor connection between the drone and docking station's cargo containers - station's conveyor sorter not set to pull out everything from the drone - sorter facing the wrong way - no space in the cargo containers of the station - no power available to recharge the drone - damaged conveyor system Those are the most common reasons. If everything from that list is okay, please let me know
@pro100tv I have checked all those things and they are all good, drain all is on and there’s power and the conveyors are good. It still works when I chuck other things in so it’s a pain. Cheers
Try to check the behavior settings first. Ejection and sorters should be set to off and the connector on the bottom should be set to "Throw Out"=On. I think that the issue here will be that connector as the drone keeps waiting for it to be emptied.
Hello I’m on Xbox and when I try to use the options and scroll through the LCD screen I don’t see the options move or change. It just stays static. I have your ship and the exact set up out. Also thank you in advance you make great tutorials. Edit:I am also using a keyboard and mouse
@@Pro100tv9 Ah well, I like the miner anyways. Very similar to the large grid one I was working on. Keep up the tutorials, workshop, and links to these things. Very very detailed and I love it. It was also nice to see the Larkin Type-7 to get some love because that is a top notch design. I’d like to see some build tutorials for other cool things like weapons or unique /useful mechanisms in the future.
Forgive my ignorance, but how do you get a third person view of the drone to set up a new mining job? The cameras don't let me hit V to go into third person because I am in a control chair, so I have had to resort to building a cockpit on it so I can control it in third person, position it, then break it down and go back to remote control. I have to be missing something.

Just a question, how do you do it on Xbox? And can you do a series of Cool automated stuff for Xbox? I like your videos too and they are very informative.
Unfortunately due to the Microsoft safety policy the scripts are disabled on Xbox. My automation is based mainly on the scripts atm so I may have a hard time doing stuff for the console. However I watched a few cool videos about the new turret control module which gives some possibilities. I will try to learn about the topic and maybe, be able to make something useful for the consoles.
Your *main conveyer sorters* (the ones that black list stone and allow the ore to go to storage) keep automatically turning off while performing a job. I’ve set up the behavior to have the sorters on but idk as it right now I get 1 pass and the sorters turn off filling up my drills and subsequently destroying the remaining ore. Idk what I’m doing wrong
@@Pro100tv9 that did it thank you, any idea why the miner won’t drop ice after I’ve selected it to do so? In the behavior menu I can select drop stone+ice but when the miner goes to the discharge location it says “ejection error” and then the miner returns to the home base location. It’s not that big of a problem as I’ve installed an ejection system on the base to discharge the excess ice but if you have any advice that would be awesome. Amazing content btw, and thank you for being helpful!
To eject the ice: Turn off ejection and toggle sorters options in behavior settings, then in the "main cargo sorters" group add ice to the black list and in the rest of the sorters add ice to their white list. At this point the drone should be able to eject the ice the same way it ejects the stone. I hope this helps. 🙂

I don't think that depth could break it. Can you bp said drone and upload it to workshop?

Most likely the experimental mode is not enabled and/or in-game scripts. Once you turn that on it should work.

Wow you showed me how to do exactly what I wanted in under 5 minutes. Every other SE creator has to spill their guts for 45 minutes and most the time dont even show how to do what they say in the title..
The thinks that can make people are amazing; still lost with the automatization of space engineers; couldn't go farther than simple mechanization
Great tutorial and very nice drone! Unfortunately, I get this problem: I keep losing my drones. They work just fine for a couple of runs, then they just fall to the bottom of the pit and explode. I don't know why, perhaps they have too much cargo? They run out of power? I've not touched the default settings for that, so I find it very strange. It takes both time and resources to build new ones too. Any ideas?
The first thing that's coming to my mind could be a problem with cargo overload. That would be weird though if they do a few runs before that.
Another thing could be too many calculations causing the game to shut down all the scripts due to lack of memory. Does it happen with only 1 drone as well?
I suspect that it may be the issue because somebody before reported to me that the script was quite heavy and was sometimes causing problems with memory.
If that's not that, maybe try to check if they run out of battery. May be the case too. If yes, then change minimum battery limit to around 30%. It may happen like that if the drone needs to do longer runs with cargo.
Else let me know and we'll try to figure it out.
If your using them on a a planet that isnt earthlike, the thrusters may not be strong enough to deal with the changes in weight. My friend tried to use one on a higher gravity, lower atmosphere planet, and it just got stuck doing 1 second of mining and then heading back because it couldnt hold itself up
This is really hard to drive to ore site PAM works fine but the design here is hard to control

When "Recording Path and Setting Home" my "1", "2" and "3" buttons do not work. They show "Not Allowed". Any smart people out there know how to fix this?
It looks like the in-game scripts are disabled.
To enable in-scripts - from the main menu press load game-> edit settings of your world -> advanced -> in-game scripts enabled.
That should do the trick.

I used this machine just now to mine rock but all it’s doing is spitting rock out and keeps digging, I wanted to have it take the rock back to my refinery but it keeps spitting out rock
On the main page of the item there's an instruction on how to keep the stone inside.
Initially the drone was designed to keep only the ore, that is why after setting everything like in the instruction, it will still eject some stone, but only from the connector and drills storage space. The rest of the stone placed in the cargo containers will be unloaded to your base

Yes, you can. To do that enter the drone's k-menu, find all the sorters, set them to blacklist and remove everything from the active filters tab.
It should collect everything from this point.
Mine sits about 3m under the connector and wont go up after returning home any help?
edit think i fixed it needed the mount to be higher
The connector may be placed too low above the ground
What happens to it when it’s done maybe I missed the part but I’ve watched this video three times over
I forgot to mention it - when the job is done it will go back to the connector, start to recharge and wait for the new task.

No, not at all, you just need to setup the drone and it works by itself until the given mining job is completed.

Hey, try placing hydrogen output just behind the connector before conveyor sorter. For some reason SE sometimes does not allow hydrogen to get through conveyor sorter even though it should. Let me know if that worked, please

I set these up on my server but when controlling the drone the menu keys dont work
I've tried repgramming them but they dont affect the LCD at all. Many sad
It's very likely that the in-game scripts are turned off on that server

i have a problem i always get the message: Last Eject Failed and it always keeps ore or stone getting stuck in one drill or in the small sorters does someone have a solution for this problem because if it is not empty it won't start again
Hi @TheLestart try checking if all the conveyors were properly printed. The drone strongly depends on those connections

With the Pam script I have the problem that I can only have one drone cause Any other drone after that switches to shuttle and I can’t switch it back anyone have the solution?

i have an issue, i set up the script and ship etc, but the drone doesn't want to continue the job. it will do one trip then empty cargo at base, then sit there.... any suggestions?

It seems like it didn't unload the cargo or can't recharge the batteries. Could you check what does the interface screen say? It always displays the status of the drone, it could give me a clue of what's happening with it

the drones keep running out of power they seem not to be charging just dropping off ore then flying back I always find them out of power in the hole they are digging any idea why?
You may need to adjust the recharge treshold for the batteries in the behavior settings
Or the gravity is higher than 1g and they try to take more ore than they can, and thus they are not able to lift off, so the maximum weight may need to be adjusted as well.
Also when setting up the job try to align them with the planet's gravity

Yes, jump to toolbar no. 2 and turn off the connector and sorters/ejectors
There's also a group called *main sorters* where you need too remove stone from blacklist so it can pass through to the container

How do you toggle it to not drop stone and deposit the stone? Whenever I turn off the ejectors and the conveyor that says STONE EJECTION off and turn off the throw out option it wont deposit it.
Could really use a hand not sure how to resolve. Works otherwise but I need stone rn.
You need to clear the conveyor sorters filter list and set them all to "blacklist".
Please note that it will still drop the stone but only until there's none in the drills, while there will be around 52k inside of the containers.
It works that way because I've never thought that there will be a demand for mining a stone.

Hey pro, me and my friends got this set up pretty easy at first, once we built our second and third one we came to a problem, when we got to control it and press 4 it says fatal setup error and remote is missing, we made sure everything was built each step of the way but no luck, could you answer this problem?
Try to detach the drone from the main grid and then recompile the a-miner PB. Perhaps it interpreted other grid's remote control as its own
Gday, I have built a drone on my survival world and got it working except when ever it comes back to base, it doesn’t unload anything. I’ve watched the video many times and got it all the same and even read some comments, any idea why it wouldn’t be unloading? Cheers.

Hey George, there may be a few reasons for that:
- no conveyor connection between the drone and docking station's cargo containers
- station's conveyor sorter not set to pull out everything from the drone
- sorter facing the wrong way
- no space in the cargo containers of the station
- no power available to recharge the drone
- damaged conveyor system
Those are the most common reasons. If everything from that list is okay, please let me know
@pro100tv I have checked all those things and they are all good, drain all is on and there’s power and the conveyors are good. It still works when I chuck other things in so it’s a pain. Cheers

why does my mining drone flip upside down? its a similar style drone to the one in the video the drills end up facing the sky
The way you placed remote control matters. If it's upside down things like that may happen.
How do you keep it charged? Mine drains my battery like crazy
Nevermind I built a solar farm :) I have noticed it does not like to undock to keep running after offload. Is that intended?
How well do these work if you convert them to Ion thrusters for asteroid mining? Does the script recognize the engine change automatically?
It should work well, just remember to recompile the script after changing the thrusters so the script can update it`s math.

Hey I have a strange issue once the drain returns "home " it never leaves again. Any ideas?
Try to check the behavior settings first. Ejection and sorters should be set to off and the connector on the bottom should be set to "Throw Out"=On.
I think that the issue here will be that connector as the drone keeps waiting for it to be emptied.

@@Pro100tv9 Ah well, I like the miner anyways. Very similar to the large grid one I was working on. Keep up the tutorials, workshop, and links to these things. Very very detailed and I love it. It was also nice to see the Larkin Type-7 to get some love because that is a top notch design.
I’d like to see some build tutorials for other cool things like weapons or unique /useful mechanisms in the future.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you get a third person view of the drone to set up a new mining job? The cameras don't let me hit V to go into third person because I am in a control chair, so I have had to resort to building a cockpit on it so I can control it in third person, position it, then break it down and go back to remote control. I have to be missing something.
You can press F8 while in creative to switch to spectator camera

Just a question, how do you do it on Xbox? And can you do a series of Cool automated stuff for Xbox? I like your videos too and they are very informative.
Unfortunately due to the Microsoft safety policy the scripts are disabled on Xbox. My automation is based mainly on the scripts atm so I may have a hard time doing stuff for the console. However I watched a few cool videos about the new turret control module which gives some possibilities.
I will try to learn about the topic and maybe, be able to make something useful for the consoles.

Try to add a sorter just behind the connector in your base and add *ore to the active filters list. That should do the trick. 🙂
@@Pro100tv9 Sorter is placed correctly with whitelist, ore group is added and drain all is turned on. I even tried connector on base with drain all.

Your *main conveyer sorters* (the ones that black list stone and allow the ore to go to storage) keep automatically turning off while performing a job. I’ve set up the behavior to have the sorters on but idk as it right now I get 1 pass and the sorters turn off filling up my drills and subsequently destroying the remaining ore. Idk what I’m doing wrong
Hi Kyle, try to set Ejection and Toggle sorters to "Off" in the behavior settings. That should help.
@@Pro100tv9 that did it thank you, any idea why the miner won’t drop ice after I’ve selected it to do so? In the behavior menu I can select drop stone+ice but when the miner goes to the discharge location it says “ejection error” and then the miner returns to the home base location. It’s not that big of a problem as I’ve installed an ejection system on the base to discharge the excess ice but if you have any advice that would be awesome. Amazing content btw, and thank you for being helpful!
To eject the ice:
Turn off ejection and toggle sorters options in behavior settings, then in the "main cargo sorters" group add ice to the black list and in the rest of the sorters add ice to their white list.
At this point the drone should be able to eject the ice the same way it ejects the stone.

You are right, that may be the issue as well. If a lack of memory occurs the game shuts down any bigger scripts.
