Sorry for the delayed response. The slots are dependent on the the wire gauge being used (AWG 14-16/18-20/22-24). The two round cavities are for crimping around the plugs.
They are not reversed. The housings do look like they would be opposite gender. It's the terminal itself that determines the gender and not the housing.
