Remember that the XD is used...you should order a New Recoil Spring Assembly At Midwest Gun Works, and get that "Factory Recoil" feeling back....The Smith &Wesson you have there is a very good firearm, With an easier and more "enginered" trigger system.
The S&W is in no way operated like the XD, the trigger on the S&W is directly contacted by the striker spring during full rearward movement. the XD only has resistance to the sear spring, and simply releases the striker.
Hi, this may or may not be something you're interested in, but I wanted to share something with you about the mags for this gun--I know the mags say they are 12 rounders, and Springfield's site says this also, but to be honest I question whether or not they were truly intended to be 12 rounders. I say this for a couple reasons: 1) Because the 12 round mags that I have (both purchased new) when they are loaded with 12 rounds actually do not have the witness hole in the back marked "12" filled, that hole remains empty, until a *13th* round is loaded into the magazine, and 2) I have personally test fired the factory 12-round magazines with 13 rounds loaded inside with so far 100% reliability (knock on wood). *For sake of comparison, the few Mec-Gar 13 round XD40 magazines I have tried have been horribly unreliable, except for one of them which has fed completely fine so far (again, knock on wood)* . It's probably not a surprise the MecGar XD40 mags were discontinued, I think I remember reading that the cut near the top of the magazine was done incorrectly on many of these. The first MecGar XD40 mag I tried to load failed to feed, likely for this reason. I can load 13 rounds in the factory "12" round magazine by hand, but some people will probably need a loading tool to get 13 in there. I'll mention also, that if you don't feel comfortable trying this with your XD40 magazine as it is, the Mec-Gar +2 magazine bottoms for the Beretta 92/96 will fit on the XD9/XD40 magazines to allow you to load the 13th round more easily (and yes, I have tried this also, the mag with the +2 extensions does still feed properly). *As far as sights, SIG P-Series sights will fit the XD* Finally it's worth mentioning, sometimes XD slides and barrels are sold on Gunbroker or Ebay. Don't go nuts spending money on them, especially if you could find a complete used XD-9 locally at a shop for cheap, but if you could get an XD-9 4" or XD-9 5" slide and barrel for 100 bucks or so, you could swap your .40 to 9mm with the slide, barrel and a 16 round XD-9 mag (because both the XD40 and XD-9 use the same frame, just different slides, barrels, and mags). Hopefully some of this has been useful. Take care.
It’s funny you bring up this point. I had this gun at the range the other day, and when I was reloading my carry ammo, I got to the last mag and realized I only had 10 rounds, and I reloaded the other two mags with 1 additional round each. Now with my M&P I can’t get the mag to stay in with a 13th round. I’ve not tried this yet, but considering this XD40 is my “truck” gun that I keep in my center console, I’m not ready to try this until I’m absolutely sure that I can fire with 13 rounds reliably. Very good post.
Thanks for the video ! I have a few questions. Do you think that 40 s&w is a good caliber for self defense and home defense ? I am looking at the Smith and Wesson SD9VE and the SD40VE as my first purchase. What are your thoughts on these pistols ?
Thank you for the question. I carry 40 s&w almost every day. My M&P 40C is my go to gun for self defense and my Sig P320 is loaded with 40 cal at home. If you are looking into a firearm in 40 cal, look for a gun that has been designed with the cartridge in mind. Since Smith and Wesson designed this cartridge, I’d look into guns designed by them. I’d not recommend the SD though. I personally am a sucker for the M&P line, due to the vast amount of accessories made my third parties for these firearms. The price may be higher for an M&P 40 versus the SD, but the customization that’s available for the M&P line is worth the premium to me.

Mag states 12 rounds, I only get 11 really tight in mag, I run 10 rounds. I hate 6 o'clock hold, I like it dead on.

I bought my 40 xd mod 2 Springfield 4 years ago paid 400 out the door excellent gun would recommend they are 500 now
FYI... Powder River Precision: Short Reset Trigger, Extended Grip Safety Lever, Extended Mag Release Button: Money 👌

The slide is hard to pull back, go with a 9mm they are easier, full size for home, and hold more rounds.
