Worked on farms for years, and have experienced this first hand. Hats off to the guy who developed this, everything handles damn close to what I would expect in real life.

Most of what I do in GTA these days is try to climb Mt Chiliad in increasingly stupid vehicles.
Basically GTA in Canada or in Siberia :D
Drivin a truck there buddy..... nah its a fighter aircraft redesigned for logistics in harsh muddy environments. That is the thought that popped into my head when i heard you say im using a stick and pedal setup

Hey Magz, the thing that really put me off Spintires was the immovable fallen logs that would jam in your tuck and make it impossible to move. It was extremely frustrating to have hours of work ruined by one glitchy log disabling the one truck or path that you need to continue. Have you found anything like this in this new game? Any immovable clutter objects that appear around trails?
I've played it now for maybe 10 hours on a PS4 Pro and i haven't come across this type of problem. There have been different stickiness to the fallen logs depending on the vehicle and terrain.
I have managed to push some of these logs against tree stumps and rocks, making them stuck against them in a realistic manner but beyond that there hasn't been any glitches or bugs other than some rare shadow flickering and 2 times there have been square portions of the terrain where the mud-graphics are raised from the natural terrain by about a yard/meter, but when i drive over it, there's no special problem crossing it, meaning it's a graphical glitch... Good luck with your problems.
Nick Z Not what he said at all... He means glitchy fallen lumber of all kinds, it was quite common in the original Spintires to be marooned on a branch that simply stopped the vehicle dead in soft mud.
Nick Z I wasn't having a dig at you, simply correcting your assumption. I've experienced both bugs so was just clarifying what he was referring to... Calm down ;-)
Your review has convinced me to get Mudrunner, thank you very much.
I didn't buy spintires for this reason, I knew they would be forced to move on at some point (Which is understandable as Spintires was reaching it's Development peak) and make a new game or utterly redo the one they had. I will likely buy into this at some point in the future.

Not normally my type of thing, but, as usual Magz, your in depth coverage of a lot of the major points has me looking more than once at this title. Quick question, do you think it'd still have a good 'feel' if you were to use a control pad? I don't think I could get used to the idea of 'drive by HOTAS'......
as a bit of a veteran racing sim driver (who normally uses a wheel for everything) I played the original with keyboard and mouse, and that worked just fine, as well as giving me the right feel, as though I was driving an actual truck off road :)
Flashart I Play Flight Sims (DCS and BMS) with a joystick, racing simulators (Assetto Corsa, IRacing, Raceroom and Project Cars 2) with a Force-feedback wheel. So I consider that having the good device for a game is important. I have 146 hours on Spintires, and to be honest, I've played it with both FFB wheel and Xbox 360 controller. The controller was very nice ! But off course the wheel was better. But don't feel the need for a 200€ wheel for Spintires, a controller will be enough for this little game

Hmm, looks interesting. Just came out on Xbox One (and PS4). Might pick it up at some point, very different for a console game but also looks somewhat relaxing.

@@dndkkddkbandndkf9946 I played the game for 3-5 hours. That was two to three whole maps. Very repetitive game - it gets old, delivering logs.
More enjoyable than ETS un my opinion and after having played this for hundreds of hours, amazing game

spintires mudrunner will not let you play multiplayer with mods added to
the game so they lied about mod support at launch of game
it says when i try to launch a multiplayer game { game files differ
from original package, multiplayer mode and achievements are disabled }
so i guess you can't play multiplayer with mods in the game folder WTF.

My friend wants me to get this game cause he's so hyped about how good it is but sadly to me it's just so boring and after the review I know it's not a game for me. Gonna feel bad letting my friend down but I just find the game so boring and repetitive.

I really don't get the appeal of this game. For me it's boring and cumbersome to play. But to each his own, I can see why folks would enjoy it
This is one of the stupidest ideas ever not the game play and how it works but the map design is super unrealistic to how we go about making things work, for example the road from hell is not even road that alone is what destroys this game. I have this game free off of Epic and never even touch it not because i hate big trucks and the idea of driving something that in real life i would not be able to do, completely the opposite. I just cannot get past the fake map made like you are a cave man forging through the forest or swamp. If this game had cool back road like i had seen growing up Durning my time as a child ridding our minibikes though the trails up north in Michigan but no it has this unrealistic map what the hell are we stupid cave men. "SUCH A TURN OFF DESIGN"
i hate when people say its relistic, i have manz expirience in off roading, thats is just total bullsh...it/ the real realistic off road game is 2000 screamer 4x4.... this mudrunner man ur 6 foot deep mud on 15 ton truck moving ? most mud trucks cant get over 3 feet of mud in short distance...u gamers are funny living in unreal imagination, this is just an arcade game as need for speed, nothing realistic here, the tires get grip uphill on 20 tons load after 5 feet of mudding...cmon man are u gta 5 arcade or some wanna be simulator ? this game sucks....i play all offroad games out here from 4x4 evolution 1,2...screamer..uaz...u name it i finished it 50 times.... but just once mudrunner...its like motorm4x game...arcade.....even 1nsane IS MORE REALISTIC THAN THIS ar, like i said the one and only game that trueCRAP ! so pepople who never got in to a 4x4 truck shut up...thid id faaaar from real physics....very far...like i said the only reeal physics game off roading is SCREAMER 4X4....now that is a simulation of offroading

I just got this game in November 2018 just barley on the Nintendo switch and damn it’s a good simulator game. All my friends hate it cause it’s boring to them but they’re not obsessed with this stuff.

Ok not cool. Had this game about 3 days and just beat this morning. Got that biggest, baddest beast machine in the game. Was looking forward to going back and replaying some earlier maps with it(downhill to be exact) but guess what.., it wont let you. Each truck has between 1-5 star rating and you are only allowed so many stars per level. For the downhill you can have 5 stars worth of trucks which is exactly how many the biggest vehicle is. Ok, but it makes me choose a second which puts me over the limit and will not let me just start it with one vehicle? Thats bites because i wanted to see how easily this truck could haul loads/logs up the only steep hill in the game.. figures.
How do u get the cockpit view all I can find is the over the hood view only do u is the cockpit view only ava after a update
Is a wheel and pedals necessary to play the game? I have a PC and keyboard as well as a mouse.

ITS THE SAME FUCKING GAME WITH A COCKPIT VIEW. You're telling me I have to pay $15 for an update? The price is great for anyone that does not already own the original spintires because it is worth it but they are fucking over anyone that already owns it. They are putting their mistakes in the hands of the players.

Sure if you consider totally revamping every feature of the game from graphics to physics to driving to the density of the mud along with adding new modes and maps the exact same game.

MagzTV Didn't really see much of a difference from the game i own, honestly that stuff should have been worked into a patch or DLC at worst, not an entirely new game.
Still isn't clicking is it? The previous publishers own the Spintires game but not the IP. Why would the Dev continue working on a project where he got barely/no money for doing said work? Last time I checked, living isn't free.

Newsflash for you Joe, you don't know everything like you seem to suggest you do. You know barely anything about the history of the devs and previous publishers relationship, the devs personal life and, finally, when this successor was planned and pushed to development. Adding support for xbox and playstation is a good start, now he'll have a larger audience to receive feedback from whether it be positive or critical. Seeing as it was only £15 with the offer I would say that's pretty good for a game that has had improvements.
