In English, Thumbs up so more can read. Passenger: "Oh, it's tilted. Hey, will you help me out?" [One of the passengers makes a request by cellphone for rescue.] Coast guard: "What is the name of the ship? Name of the ship?" Student: "Sewol. Sewol." Coast guard: "Sewol, is this a merchant ship? What is this?" Student: "What?" Coast guard: "What is the type of the ship? Is it a ferry? Is it a fishing ship?" Student: "This is a ferry." At this point in the video, the students talk among themselves. Their conversations are interrupted by on-board announcements. ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Please don't move from your current location, and be prepared for safety instructions [regarding the] accident. "Will the water leak in really? The shaking is getting serious." "Time for a selfie." "Me, too. Me, too. Take one of me screaming." [Makes a facial expression of screaming.] "What is really going on?" No more life vests "Is it really sinking? What, they have life vests, too." "Hey, you, wear the life vest." "Ah, I'm hurt." "Guys, put on the life vests." "No more of them now? The life vests?" "Yeah." "[Name hidden] hey, what about you?" "Put your feet here." "Are they wearing [life vests] outside [the cabin]?" "The kids outside are not wearing them. They aren't wearing them." "But the situation outside now, we can't tell the situation of the kids at the balcony." "Bring it out. Bring it out." "No, like, something got stuck." "What do we do?" "What is the captain doing?" "It's like it became the Titanic. [Hums the soundtrack tune to The Titanic]" "The phone is not working?" "No, not working." Final words "Ahh, we're doomed. Like, I could die without having a chance to say my last words." "Well, leave them now. [Expletive]" "Record them." "Recording. This is a video." "Please, if I don't survive, Mom and Dad, I love you." "Well, you next." "He's reading the text messages. Poor thing." South Korea ferry: Was steering gear failure to blame? Ferry crew had moments of heroism, passengers say "Hey [name hidden]." "Don't shoot [video]." "Mom, Dad, Dad, Dad, my younger brother, what should I do? I must say that my younger brother must not go on a school trip ever." "Hey, you've got to give one to that guy, him." [Possible reference to life vests.] "I can't give them to those guys." "Search in there. Search there." "All done? Are you guys all done? Why aren't you wearing it [a life vest]? Well, you don't worry about gathering your belongings in a situation like this." 'Ahh, we will have to jump into the sea.' Teacher/adult: "Are you all wearing life vests? Confirm if you're all wearing one." "Yes, ma'am, we're all wearing them." "How do you lock this [vest]?" "This doesn't fit." "Ahh, I feel like I have motion sickness." "Hurry, wear it." "Look, come to think of it, I haven't done many bad things. [Expletive]" "Hey, this is going to be in the news, I guarantee it. This is going to be in the news." "No, it won't for something like this, unless it sinks." "Sinks? It's sinking now." "It will not sink. It must not." "Ah, my cellphone. There's no network reception." "Mom, I love you. Dad, I love you. I love you both. This is the son of Mr. [name hidden] speaking, because it seems like I might die here." "Mom, Dad, I love you. [Younger sister's name hidden, repeated], please don't go on a school field trip, at least you must not if you don’t want to end up like your older brother. Please let me live, let me live, let me live. This is the end. Can you see me tilted? "Thanks. Really, though, what's happening to the kids who were on the deck?" A relative of a passenger aboard the sunken ferry Sewol weeps as he waits for news on his missing loved one at a port in Jindo, South Korea, on Friday. 1 of 18 [A call between Sewol and Jindo Coastal VTS] Coastal VTS: Sewol, Sewol, Jindo Coastal VTS. Sewol, Sewol, Jindo Coastal VTS. Sewol, is your ship sinking? Sewol: Yes, it is. Tell the the coast guard to hurry, please. "So, there's a high possibility they have fallen off [the balcony outside]. And earlier, from the deck, the deck doesn't have windows. So I'm saying it's more dangerous." "What you are looking at right now…?" ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Students of Danwon High School and other passengers, this is a safety announcement. Do not move from the second floor, but please stand by. "Right now, the ship is rolled over. I feel like vomiting. Now my legs are shaky. I'm feeling nauseous too. I'm in front of a guy calmly holding his cellphone." ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: This is an information announcement once again. The passengers who are able to put on the jackets, please put on the life jackets. "I don't understand what's happening. Them telling us to wear the life vests, doesn't that mean the ship is sinking?" "Ahh, we will have to jump into the sea." "Ahh, this is a real emergency. [Expletive] - don't hold it." "I'm not holding it, I'm not holding it. It's just touching." "No, don't hold onto that. You might fall off trying to hold onto that." "Hey, we're playing with smartphones in the midst of this situation." "Audacious Koreans, we are." "Hey [hidden name], look at our real, last audacity." "Me, too. We're going to swim out to sea like this ...." "Why are you holding it up?" "I feel like vomiting now." ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Those of you who can reach the life jackets, please pass them around, pass them around. Make it possible for people to put them on, don't move from your current location, please stand by. Once again, this is the guidance announcement. Do not move from your current position. "I wonder how [hidden name] is doing? [Hidden name] and who else? [Hidden name], [hidden name] and who else, too, is missing?" "I thought we were on schedule. What is this? They said we were leaving at 12." "It's hot, it's scary." "You scared? Oh, the baby's crying. It's OK, it's OK." "What, there's a baby? There's a baby. This is driving me crazy. This is a real emergency." "Give us more life vests." "I have to get this kind of telephone - those are hard to find." "No more?" [Reference to life vests.] "No more, no more." "Any more behind you, in the rear?" "No more." "Why is no one being sent to the women's room there?" "I feel dizzy, I feel dizzy." "Huh? Dizzy?" "Where's the teacher?" "I want to know, too." "Is the teacher alright?" "I received a text message from the teacher." "What does it say?" "'Are the kids OK?'" "Ask the teacher what's happening." "The teacher is not checking messages, for now." "Ahh…" This is the end of the recording. You can play the full video in Korean in the window below.
Thanks for the translation. Could I take your translation to subtitle this video? I think it would have more of an impact and more people need to see this translation.
OMG! The students were still alive at 10:11 AM while the captain escaped at 9:30!! What have you done captain? The students were laughing trying to hide their fears. Instead of telling them to stay put, why did you not tell them to at least go to the deck where it would have been safer??? WHY, CAPTAIN, WHY? My heart hurts!
To those who don't seem to understand why these students didn't just walk off the boat, the boat was listing, which made it near impossible for them to get to the parts of the boat where they would have been saved. Students were told to return to their cabins and to stay put, which is what they did, and is what sealed their fate. Those who survived were the ones who were not in their cabins at the time, the ones who were already located in sections of the boat that made it easy to get out and jump into the water. For those in their cabins, jumping into the water simply wasn't possible. Had the captain and crew not told the kids to return to their cabins and instead come up to where they could access the exterior of the boat, they could have jumped out of the boat with their life jackets on. Once the boat had listed to a certain point, getting out was not an option, they had to sit, wait, and hope they'd be saved.
Wow. The truth comes out, finally. This is so sad. I don't know how can the captain and crew can live with themselves after sending these poor kids back to their cabins to their deaths. So instead of helping them off, like the crew is supposed to do, the the captain and the crew saved themselves and no-one else, literally abandoning them to the fate of death. COWARDS!! I can't even imagine the pain and horror of the parents of those missing and presumed dead. I would be furious and I really hope the people responsible for sending these kids off to die get what they deserve.....
***** In the 9/11 attacks on World TradeCenter, the "authorities" told building occupants to stay where they were, as it was safer. Those who did not listen managed to get out alive.
I really stunned and astounded with the captain and crews decision. It's survival skills to wear the life jacket and go to open space and wait for rescue team or to jump into the sea. It's really a pity that none of them realised that .
Overwhelming sorrow for all who were abandoned by those whose responsibility was to see to their safe return to loving families. My family and I grieve along with Korea. Escondido, CA will always remember. You have our prayers!
My heart goes out to those kids in the video, the rest of the victims in the ferry disaster and the families/friends of the victims. I hope they know that there are people around the world thinking about them.
After watching this video, it is apparent that the crew member that told passengers to stay put created a sense of false security that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of students. The dead students in this video could have been saved had the announcements simply said, "we are sinking, please move to the upper decks" instead of "stay where you are".
Heartbreaking to hear them keep saying "mom, dad i love you" cant totally imagine what's their parents' feel to hear their children last voice :'( deep condolences to all victims families
No, they were just joking. Up to that point, they didn't know what was really happening. They thought the ship possibly can't sink, and thought very lightly of it. One of the kids even starts the Titanic theme song.
The students complying with authority wasn't what got them killed. They trusted/assumed the captain/crew knew what they were doing. Instead, it was the incompetent adults in charge who completely failed to protect them. The captain and crew endangered them with fatal instructions; the rescue teams and government failed to act responsibly; the people in charge of the ships put profits above safety. I'm sorry that these kids became victims of the mistakes made by these cruel adults, and even sorrier that their fellow classmates who survived will have to live with this trauma for the rest of their lives.
The rescue team didn’t do anything if you must know, the captain to,them that there was no one else that needed to be saved after he got saved so they left thinking that everyone got saved

As a parent, I cannot imagine the pain the parents of these children felt when watching this video, knowing these were the last minutes of your child's life and how terrified they must have been. If my child was among them, I could not be in the presence of this cowardly captain and crew as I would lose it and try to strangle one of them for sending my child to their death when every single one of them could have been saved. How unbelievably heart breaking.
To the families of these teenagers, I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. There are no words to describe the pain you are feeling. Please know that you have prayers and thoughts coming your way from so many people right now. There is nothing we can do to make this better. The world is grieving with you during this senseless tragedy.
Couldn't watch more then 5 seconds of this. There's another lesson here for everyone - it's a proven psychological one: always question everything and everyone, no matter the authority - especially when your life is on the line. Trust, but never absolutely, if it feels wrong. What an unfathomable, criminal tragedy to have been - allowed - to occur. My thoughts are with these families.
What most people don't realize or understand, here in Korea, when someone older than you tells you to do something, whether you agree or not, you do it. It's very unfortunate in this case Tim, but it is how they are raised. Questioning authority, never once entered their minds.
John Travitz I'm guessing no matter what country/culture they are from most passengers would trust the captain and crew in this sort of situation. If this had been a Canadian 11th grade then I'm certain that the same amount of students would have died. In most situations like this it'd be dumber not to listen to what the captain and crew were telling you.
John Travitz I do realize it. And that's my point, no matter who and where. There's a line where things cross where all we have is ourselves. No way these kids would've known that. No way would they have fathomed that. They were being great kids, listening, waiting. That's what makes the entire thing just so unbelievably tragic. An incomprehensible, utter failure of responsibility.
1412Bunny I agree. I think my explanation was leaning more on the basis that a few comments I have seen around the internet are of people calling the kids stupid. I know Tim wasn't, but I suppose Ive grown defensive, having watched it on the new day in and day out(thats almost all they are airing here right now). But also as he said there is a point where you have to say, screw that. Tim I think many did reach that point, but by then there were beds and refrigerators and people piled up against the doors and they couldn't get them open. One girl they showed texts between her and her dad. She told him they were told to stay there people were coming. He told her to get out, and get out now. She said dad I can't there are people against the door in the hall and we can't get it open.
this situation is extremely sad in the first place but the fact that these kids thought this was nothing serious makes it even more sad. one kid can even be heard saying "it'll be cool if we post this on facebook!" this is a tragedy that will not be forgotten for a long, long time. EDIT: wow some kids even say, "lets take a selfie!" while they try getting their life vests on. absolutely incredible
So many young lives wasted... So many now left with grief.. There were still time, they could've all been saved.. If only the captain and crew did it right, guided them to the deck, gave them life vests... _There was enough time_ ... This is so sad, so heartbreaking to think what could've been... #PrayForSouthKorea
I don't know what the captain could have been thinking.. But he must have known what was happening. He couldn't have not, he's the captain! There was enough time... T.T
My heart aches for these children and their family. So sad to see their last minutes alive. But i defenetly admire that South Korean people come all toghether in this situation!
This is really sad.... One kid is basically saying that he doesn't want to die. There basically talking about what's happening to them in the ship and what might happen.
If you havent seen the article on nyt. ‘Mom, This Looks Like the End of Me’: Doomed Vessel’s Last Minutes Korean Ferry Students Captured Sinking on Video
I can't even watch a few seconds of that vid. I'm tearing just thinking about it. They were just kids...kids. I can't watch without thinking about my own kids...just so sad knowing more could have been done to give them a chance to survive...so many innocent lives lost...just heartbreaking.
This is just terrible.... how could he do this to these children!! They had their whole future ahead of them... this is so saad!! How the boy kept saying "mum dad i love you" and mentioning his noona.. This made me speechless, so sad! Rest in peace...
Poor boys and girls. It was disaster caused by systemic problem of administration. And I felt that regular practice and exercise based on well-planned manual is very crucial. BUT most of all, person in charge of managing risk/crisis management is the most important.
Ray Kay As much as I am 100% behind holding the captain and crew responsible, I do not believe he did it knowing they would drown. He was simply too lazy and/or too selfish to properly access the situation at hand. He figured telling people to go to their cabins was the right thing to do at the time. However, him then jumping off the ship to save himself makes him look as if he didn't care, which is what will probably damn him at the end.
governmentscheisse Come off it. Captain and crew knew how badly the ship was listing. They knew it was sinking fast. They also knew that if they issued evacuation orders, the passengers would be the first ones to be picked up by the rescue boats, not them. They told the students to stay because they didn't want to be the last in line. While they were telling the students to stay put, they were already busy saving themselves. Right to the very end, they never gave evacuation orders. All they said was stay put, knowing full well that there was very little chance of them being saved.
governmentscheisse I would say it's more than being "lazy" if the captain was the first one to abandon the ship and he managed to change his clothes beforehand so the rescuers would not know he is the captain. definitely closer to murder.
The Captain fucked up plain and simple. He claims that he did not want the children to suffer from hypothermia or be swept away by currents so he had them drown while he abandoned ship in his fucking underwear. Why the fuck was he in his underwear? Why the fuck was the crew member telling the kids over and over to stay put instead of directing students to try and move to the upper decks? At the end of the day, this incident is a reminder that the crew was not trained properly in safety and evacuation drills, and there was a complete breakdown in communication.
I understand a little bit of Korean and at 12:50 the boy says "Mom, I love you. Dad, I love you. Both, I love you." I wish I knew more. Just small words here and there but I don't know the context. Just that little part was gut wrenching enough.
This is crazy! I cannot believe the crew told them to stay put and then they escaped while these children were on board. Korea is big on respecting their elders and so of course the children are going to do what they are told. I had a hard time trying not to cry while I watched this. These children were joking around and not really thinking their was a problem until later on. My heart goes out to the families of all the victims. The captain and crew are wrong and I hope they get the worst possible action against them. Once you know a ship is going down, you NEED to advise people to get to the top. At least there could have been a better chance for people survive.
omg the captain kept on ensuring them to stay put 10 different times.. no wonder.. it's all his fault. 'rescue is coming so please stay put'. and then he fucking left?? burn in hell.
Breaks my heart, this video of these young kids hanging out and being kids...their lives lost soon after, words can't describe how terrible this is....
my heart goes out to all those parents and families. I could not bring myself to watch the entire video. even though I didn't know what they were saying it really saddens me that this happened. they were so young and had their entire lives ahead of them. I hope their souls can rest in peace :/

In English, Thumbs up so more can read.
Passenger: "Oh, it's tilted. Hey, will you help me out?"
[One of the passengers makes a request by cellphone for rescue.]
Coast guard: "What is the name of the ship? Name of the ship?"
Student: "Sewol. Sewol."
Coast guard: "Sewol, is this a merchant ship? What is this?"
Student: "What?"
Coast guard: "What is the type of the ship? Is it a ferry? Is it a fishing ship?"
Student: "This is a ferry."
At this point in the video, the students talk among themselves. Their conversations are interrupted by on-board announcements.
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Please don't move from your current location, and be prepared for safety instructions [regarding the] accident.
"Will the water leak in really? The shaking is getting serious."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Please stand by.
"It's tilting this way. Can't move."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: …. dangerous. Please be prepared for safety instructions [regarding the] accident.
"[Expletive] This is ridiculous."
"Oh I want to get off. I really do."
"Hey, would you like to shoot me [with your cellphone camera]?"
'Am I really going to die?'
"Hey, what's the situation?"
"[Expletive] Hey, why did you get out?"
"Hey, hey, look at this. It's not going down any further is it?"
"Is it shifting even more? The shifting is getting serious. If I relax myself, I just move right this way [shows how the ship is leaning]."
"Lend me some support."
"Wait a second. Wait a second."
"Quiet. Quiet."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: …do not move from your current position, please.
"Open the door."
South Korea Ship Sinks

"It can only be opened from the inside."
"It was really [expletive] difficult for me a second ago."
"This cannot be opened from the outside at all."
(Yelling) "What is this? Hurry, rescue us!"
"Yay, this is fun."
"Am I really going to die?"
"If we were outside the window, we'd already be dead, [expletive]."
"What are the chances of this happening, [expletive]?"
"Of course, even when I was living in [location deleted], nothing was even close to this."
"Hey, my arms are shaking."
"It's tilting even more."
"Hey, pass my shoes up."
"It's tilting even more? Are you kidding?"
"Hey, all the shoes are sliding away here."
"[Expletive] What are you doing?"
Looking for life vests
"This isn't an emergency situation. This is reality."
"Someone bring the life vests out."
"Come on, bring what out? Why?"
"Because we don't know how this is going to turn out. This is really happening."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Once again, dear passengers, this is the guidance announcement. [Difficult to hear, possibly 'Don't move'] ... from where you are.
"We don't know what's going to happen, so bring them [the life vests] out."
"[Expletive] No, no, we can't go."
"[Expletive]-camera, camera. This is not recording well with this camera."
(Student yelling) "Let me live!"
"You never know, so keep this [life vest]."
"No, no, I'm fine, I'm fine."
[Another rescue call is made from Sewol to Jeju Vessel Traffic Services Centre]
Sewol: Our ship is in danger. The ship is rolled over now.
Jeju VTS: Yes, where is your ship?
South Korea ferry: Transcript of conversation between ferry, shore
South Korea ferry: 2nd transcript of final transmissions
"We don't want to die."
"Is the water even leaking in?"
"I couldn't even imagine it could roll over like this."
"We took our life vests."
"The ship is slowly tilting over."
'Should I call my mom? Mom, I'm at my end.'
"This is no joke."
"School class trip. [Lengthy expletives] school class trip."
"Here's a life vest."
"The ship is still settling. It's slowly going to the left."
"It feels like it's better than just moments ago. But why did the ship roll over suddenly?"
"Something smells strange."
"[Expletive.] Is the gas leaking?"
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Once again, dear passengers, a guidance announcement. Those of you who are inside the ship, please do not move. [Difficult to make out, possibly "Try to find"] …a pole you can hold onto.
[Note: The view on the screen shows the interior of the ship tilted to one side.]
"Isn't this going to be in the news?"
"Hey, [friend's name], let's stay together."
"Something smells like boiled egg. Something smells like boiled egg."
"Settling. The [ship's] settling is finished."
"Hey, can you catch me if I fall?"
"Don't you fall."
"I really want to get down. It's scary here."
"I'd recommend that you don't get down."
"You hold on to this. You hold on to this, too."
"No, I'll hold onto this."
"Leave them on the floor."
"Why are you pulling out the life vests?"
"We don’t want to die, don't want to die."
[Another phone call between a passenger and the police service is heard.]
Police: The ship is about to sink, you say?
Passenger: Yes. Yes. Sewol. Sewol. The one that's coming in from Incheon to Jeju. Hurry.
[indiscernible noise]
Passenger: We are not supposed to move.
Police: Hello?
Passenger: Yes. Yes. The ship is sinking.
"Even if you die, I don't want to die."
"[Expletive], is it over?"
"No, no."
South Korea ferry: Bad weather hampers search for bodies
South Korean ferry: Divers recover bodies
"It’s rolling over. That's what's happening now."
"This one would be fun to post on Facebook."
"Dad, I don't want to die."
"Oh, this is going to be fun once the water leaks in."
"Really, once the water leaks in, we've really got to get out."
"Should I call my mom? Mom, I'm at my end."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Please do not move from where you are.
"It says do not move."
'The Man Who Defied Gravity'
[Two minutes and 25 seconds later.]
"So, hey, they're all saying everything is going to be fine?"
"Sure. That's why I'm saying I got to get out of here now."
"Me, too. Me, too."
"Bye."
South Korea Ship Sinks
The students look for life vests once they realize what's happening with the ferry is an emergency situation, but they are unable to find enough for everyone. (Park Su-hyeon, courtesy of the Park Family/The Associated Press)
"Getting ready to jump in."
"I'm going to wear the life vest."
"I gotta wear one, too."
"Really gotta wear one."
"I must wear one, too."
"Hey, you should wear one, too."
"Are you going to wear it?"
"[Expletive.] Things like this should be photographed."
"Shoot this as the last souvenir. Shoot it like this. Call it The Man who Defied Gravity."
[Student poses in severely tilted cabin.]
"Shoot it [facing] down."
"Hurry, hurry, hurry."
"Mom, I love you. Mom, I love you. I love you."
"Some school class trip."
"Mom, the ship is now…"
"Don't fall on me when the ship suddenly shakes."
"Are we really all going to fall?"
"Wear clothes now."
[Reference to cold ocean water.]
"Now, we must try to live."
"Give me one of those [life vests]. Where is it? Pull down the life vest there."
"Here it is."
"Hey, hey, hey. Watch out here. The wind, kids, all….."
"Throw all the life vests down here."
(Yells) "Life vest!"
"[Expletive, expletive, expletive.]"
"Throw them."
"Got to survive."
"What is this?"
"Really, really scared."
"Time for a selfie."
"Me, too. Me, too. Take one of me screaming." [Makes a facial expression of screaming.]
"What is really going on?"
No more life vests
"Is it really sinking? What, they have life vests, too."
"Hey, you, wear the life vest."
"Ah, I'm hurt."
"Guys, put on the life vests."
"No more of them now? The life vests?"
"Yeah."
"[Name hidden] hey, what about you?"
"The [life vest] zippers aren't locking."
"My zippers are broken, too."
"We don't have one life vest here."
"Wear that kid-sized one. The kid-sized one."
"It seems like I'll have to."
"We don't have [name hidden]'s life vest. Must go and find it."
"[Name hidden]'s? Yours?"
"No."
"Go find them."
"Wear mine."
"What about you?"
"Me? I'm going to go get it."
'Please don't go on a school field trip. At least, you mustn't if you don’t want to end up like your older brother. Please let me live, let me live, let me live.'
"Go get it."
"I have lots of cartoons I haven't seen. I have lots of cartoons I haven't seen. The season isn't over yet."
"I hate sinking. I haven't even found my cash yet."
"Give me five more."
[Possible reference to life vests.]
"No more? Not even one? Look at that end. That end. Find another life vest."
"This is fun."
"Throw them all. Why are there no more [life vests]? There must be."
"Put your feet here."
"Are they wearing [life vests] outside [the cabin]?"
"The kids outside are not wearing them. They aren't wearing them."
"But the situation outside now, we can't tell the situation of the kids at the balcony."
"Bring it out. Bring it out."
"No, like, something got stuck."
"What do we do?"
"What is the captain doing?"
"It's like it became the Titanic. [Hums the soundtrack tune to The Titanic]"
"The phone is not working?"
"No, not working."
Final words
"Ahh, we're doomed. Like, I could die without having a chance to say my last words."
"Well, leave them now. [Expletive]"
"Record them."
"Recording. This is a video."
"Please, if I don't survive, Mom and Dad, I love you."
"Well, you next."
"He's reading the text messages. Poor thing."
South Korea ferry: Was steering gear failure to blame?
Ferry crew had moments of heroism, passengers say
"Hey [name hidden]."
"Don't shoot [video]."
"Mom, Dad, Dad, Dad, my younger brother, what should I do? I must say that my younger brother must not go on a school trip ever."
"Hey, you've got to give one to that guy, him."
[Possible reference to life vests.]
"I can't give them to those guys."
"Search in there. Search there."
"All done? Are you guys all done? Why aren't you wearing it [a life vest]? Well, you don't worry about gathering your belongings in a situation like this."
'Ahh, we will have to jump into the sea.'
Teacher/adult: "Are you all wearing life vests? Confirm if you're all wearing one."
"Yes, ma'am, we're all wearing them."
"How do you lock this [vest]?"
"This doesn't fit."
"Ahh, I feel like I have motion sickness."
"Hurry, wear it."
"Look, come to think of it, I haven't done many bad things. [Expletive]"
"Hey, this is going to be in the news, I guarantee it. This is going to be in the news."
"No, it won't for something like this, unless it sinks."
"Sinks? It's sinking now."
"It will not sink. It must not."
"Ah, my cellphone. There's no network reception."
"Mom, I love you. Dad, I love you. I love you both. This is the son of Mr. [name hidden] speaking, because it seems like I might die here."
"Mom, Dad, I love you. [Younger sister's name hidden, repeated], please don't go on a school field trip, at least you must not if you don’t want to end up like your older brother. Please let me live, let me live, let me live. This is the end. Can you see me tilted?
"Thanks. Really, though, what's happening to the kids who were on the deck?"
A relative of a passenger aboard the sunken ferry Sewol weeps as he waits for news on his missing loved one at a port in Jindo, South Korea, on Friday.
1 of 18
[A call between Sewol and Jindo Coastal VTS]
Coastal VTS: Sewol, Sewol, Jindo Coastal VTS.
So I'm saying it's more dangerous."
"What you are looking at right now…?"
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Students of Danwon High School and other passengers, this is a safety announcement. Do not move from the second floor, but please stand by.
"Right now, the ship is rolled over. I feel like vomiting. Now my legs are shaky. I'm feeling nauseous too. I'm in front of a guy calmly holding his cellphone."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: This is an information announcement once again. The passengers who are able to put on the jackets, please put on the life jackets.
"I don't understand what's happening. Them telling us to wear the life vests, doesn't that mean the ship is sinking?"
"Ahh, we will have to jump into the sea."
"Ahh, this is a real emergency. [Expletive] - don't hold it."
"I'm not holding it, I'm not holding it. It's just touching."
"No, don't hold onto that. You might fall off trying to hold onto that."
"Hey, we're playing with smartphones in the midst of this situation."
"Audacious Koreans, we are."
"Hey [hidden name], look at our real, last audacity."
"Me, too. We're going to swim out to sea like this ...."
"Why are you holding it up?"
"I feel like vomiting now."
ON-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: Those of you who can reach the life jackets, please pass them around, pass them around. Make it possible for people to put them on, don't move from your current location, please stand by. Once again, this is the guidance announcement. Do not move from your current position.
"I wonder how [hidden name] is doing? [Hidden name] and who else? [Hidden name], [hidden name] and who else, too, is missing?"
"I thought we were on schedule. What is this? They said we were leaving at 12."
"It's hot, it's scary."
"You scared? Oh, the baby's crying. It's OK, it's OK."
"What, there's a baby? There's a baby. This is driving me crazy. This is a real emergency."
"Give us more life vests."
"I have to get this kind of telephone - those are hard to find."
"No more?"
[Reference to life vests.]
"No more, no more."
"Any more behind you, in the rear?"
"No more."
"Why is no one being sent to the women's room there?"
"I feel dizzy, I feel dizzy."
"Huh? Dizzy?"
"Where's the teacher?"
"I want to know, too."
"Is the teacher alright?"
"I received a text message from the teacher."
"What does it say?"
"'Are the kids OK?'"
"Ask the teacher what's happening."
"The teacher is not checking messages, for now."
"Ahh…"

Because the bastard would have had a hard time getting out himself with everyone else rushing out.
Heyy, I know this is from 8 years ago but your a famous UA-camr now. I hope you never forgot the lives of these unfortunate souls
MrJamberee Citation please, or I'll just write this off as another conspiracy theory.
I really stunned and astounded with the captain and crews decision. It's survival skills to wear the life jacket and go to open space and wait for rescue team or to jump into the sea. It's really a pity that none of them realised that .
jqxok It's well known that there were announcements in the South Tower that people should not leave. You could look it up.
Overwhelming sorrow for all who were abandoned by those whose responsibility was to see to their safe return to loving families. My family and I grieve along with Korea. Escondido, CA will always remember. You have our prayers!
Couldn't watch till the end. They were unaware of the gravity of the situation. It's heartbreaking. They were just kids...
My heart goes out to those kids in the video, the rest of the victims in the ferry disaster and the families/friends of the victims. I hope they know that there are people around the world thinking about them.
This is sad to watch knowing that probably everyone in the video didnt make it.

God bless you, dear ones. I'll light a candle for all of you again at church today.
How unbelievably heart breaking.
that kid keep saying "mom, i love you" & "dad, i love you" is giving me goosebumps~ TT___TT
Im so heartbroken over this... All those poor kids! :( My heart goes out to all the people involved in this horrible situation...
They lost the golden time...
The kids are still playing and not knowing what are going on and... they believe. . The Adults gonna rescue them..... but...
That's why I was crying while watching this. They were so innocent, not knowing anything... They were just kids..
I don't know what the captain could have been thinking.. But he must have known what was happening. He couldn't have not, he's the captain!
There was enough time... T.T
and the feeling when the parent watch this video........ i can not imagine how hard for them now.....
My heart aches for these children and their family. So sad to see their last minutes alive.
But i defenetly admire that South Korean people come all toghether in this situation!
So terrible, RIP to the children. If anyone knows where I can find a translated version Korean > English please let me know.
If you even find one please let me know.
i also need it. let me know also
Me too, been obsessed with this story
This is really sad.... One kid is basically saying that he doesn't want to die. There basically talking about what's happening to them in the ship and what might happen.
If you havent seen the article on nyt.
‘Mom, This Looks Like the End of Me’: Doomed Vessel’s Last Minutes
I can't even watch a few seconds of that vid. I'm tearing just thinking about it. They were just kids...kids. I can't watch without thinking about my own kids...just so sad knowing more could have been done to give them a chance to survive...so many innocent lives lost...just heartbreaking.
Those poor children just didn't seem to grasp what was happening. Terribly sad to watch.
I pray that their souls rest in peace. Amen.
This is just terrible.... how could he do this to these children!! They had their whole future ahead of them... this is so saad!!
How the boy kept saying "mum dad i love you" and mentioning his noona..
This made me speechless, so sad!
Rest in peace...
This is just too heartbreaking to watch. My thoughts and prayers are with those lost to Sewol.
Poor boys and girls.
It was disaster caused by systemic problem of administration.
And I felt that regular practice and exercise based on well-planned manual is very crucial.
BUT most of all, person in charge of managing risk/crisis management is the most important.
This is so sad. Poor kids. They are so innocent.
This is just heartbreaking honestly, this is what greediness caused
Couldn't understand what they were saying, but i recognized one of the kids singing the titanic song :( sad to hear that is pretty much what happened
Epic Fail Productions They were just joking around at that time. Not knowing what was happening was very very serious.
I wouldn't say this was murder but it was negligent homicide.
Telling someone to stay put knowing they will drown if they listen to the commands is more than negligent homicide.
R.I.P :( So sad, The captain is a murderer.
My heart goes out to the kids and their families, It's so heartbreaking.
omg the captain kept on ensuring them to stay put 10 different times.. no wonder.. it's all his fault. 'rescue is coming so please stay put'. and then he fucking left?? burn in hell.
The anchor seriously does not blink. Talk about great eye contact.
He must be too shocked and sad
This is still so freaking sad. I hope the families of the victims are better now... I'm still enraged by the actions of the captain.

Such a tragedy, I am very sorry. So absolutely sad.
