    I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. As for a direction of your channel in 2024, one thing that sets you apart from other photography channels, is you're the only full-time, general assignment photographer that I know of on UA-cam. Everyone else seems to be a wedding or wildlife photographer. It would be really interesting to see photos from your assignments and how you worked your way through the process of creating the photos. Planning, logistics, gear, techniques, etc. Anything related to the business (and art) from the perspective of a commercial photographer would be interesting. Thanks for the update video.

    So sorry to hear about your father's ill health and passing. I've been through similar (though not that conclusion..) and it does put work very much on the back foot. On the silver lining to '23, well done on your huge growth in subscribers and viewing figures, well deserved. No longer 'the smallest channel on UA-cam' eh!
    As mentioned, I find the R5 excellent and deeply frustrating at the same time. Images great, but the actual working controls very awkward, especially in low light. I think the R6ii looks like a much better 'working ' camera, at half the price. I've had the wobbly hotshoes (loose in just 18 months...) on both my R5s fixed by Canon, just inside warranty, a one week turnaround. I gulped when I saw your DIY fix...!
    Canon seem to have everlasting shutters, remarkable, but I've had a shutter go on one of my Nikons (whilst shooting a red carpet event...awkward...). But un-noticed by me, it had gone over it's 'spec sheet' shutter life, it cost only £2-300 to repair, and I regard it as like replacing a clutch in a car, a key part good to go for another xxx,000 clicks.
    Merry Christmas and onwards into '24...!

    Hello Roy. Condolences on the loss of your dad. "We think of these as separate lives, but they are one life." - Tibetan Rinpoche. My mother had a startlingly direct experience of this, which I won't go into now - just know that your father is loved. On the matter of camera longevity, there's a portrait photographer in Germany who put 900,000 clicks on one 6D and 1.3M on another - with no faults, no cleanings, and no trips to the shop. I say, hubba-hubba and hurray for Canon. Thanks for the updates - and, you owe us NOTHING. We're grateful when you're able to share your experience.

      @@RoyRiley Initially I watched your *EF 15mm f/2.8 fisheye* review and thought if you ever compared it to its rival - *Sigma 15mm f/2.8* 😊 I bought the latter and it has one significant advantage - MFD of 15cm vs 20cm on EF. In all other aspects I suppose the native one must be better (I wonder about picture quality, though, as old Sigma EX lenses are mostly quite sharp). Then, overall I agree, old third parties feel unreliable and I had a number of them breaking over time (e.g. Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 or Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8). But modern ones (Sigma Art, Tamron G2) feel almost as good as native. And definitely not so worse in characteristics as lower in price 🙂 Sorry for long story, but, to sum up: *do you currently use any of third parties* ? I mean there are still some models not existing in EF\RF lineup, like my cheap *Sigma 20mm f/1.8* (or its expensive successor - 20mm f/1.4) 😎

    My Condolences on the loss of your Father ..
    There is no need to apologise for the lack of video's . Being a working FT Tog your time is precious and being busy . So it's understandable you've been unable to do video's .
    This year i've been working more hours than i ever was working for my old boss . Tho it's affected how many times i can get out getting pics but it's me more money to buy more gear .
    And i like the fact you pointed out a colour issue regarding the R5 . As i've not seen other channels i follow that use that Camera ever mention it .

    Good to see you back on the tube. I wish others would recognise these items as tools, use them the way you like not because someone else says but based on one’s own experience. I’m just a hobbyist and I find Canon just works for me. I upgraded to the R7 from the 7Dii & 7D before that because I wanted to focus on my kids eyes without fiddling around with the joystick (save the joystick for my sports stuff). The rest was just a bonus as I have some large prints form 8-12 mp cameras and it’s fine. Iv used the R5 and the 28-70/2 monster and it was highly impressive, switching between movie mode and back etc it just worked much better than the R7. Maybe one day I’ll pick up an R3 / R6ii.

    Sorry my condolences on the loss of your father. I picked up the 5 D Mark lll. It's a beautiful camera I really enjoy using it. I'm very glad that your back doing videos. I'm really enjoying photography. I'm working currently on wildlife. I've got about 11 Bald Eagles flying around our city reservoir. I'm using my EF 300 or the EF 400 mm. I'm going to be putting them on my 90 D. As for the editing programs. You were talking about Lightroom and the Canon DPP. What do you like about Lightroom??

    • @RoyRiley
      @RoyRiley  8 місяців тому

      Thank You Jeffery. Much appreciated. a 400mm on the 90D is a powerful combination. Good luck with it! Lightroom is an all round image handling package. Certainly for me it does about 99% of what I need, really quickly and with zero fuss. It does take a while to learn but I consider it to be worthwhile.

    I don't bother with UV filters for most things. I’ve done tests, and they do slightly worsen contrast and sharpness. If I'm going to be shooting in the rain or in a dusty environment then their usefulness would outweigh the slight loss in quality.

    Are you excited about the upcoming Canon R5 Mark ii, that rumours say will be coming out in 2024. The original R5 is enticing because there have been good deals lately, interested to see what the R5 Mark ii will offer. At the moment I have no issues with the Canon R6 original👍😍 and yes, some of us do have a GAS problem😂
