Mustang: "Okay, make every effort to avoid fatalities at all costs. We're winning hearts and minds here!" Briggs soldiers: "Fatalities, you say? Let's go!"
THIS is what I love about the finale. Practically every side character that most anime would have be useless actually CONTRIBUTES! Even characters like Ross and Havock, characters we haven't seen in a LONG time, do their part! It's one of the reasons why I love this show so much
One of the reasons FMAB has had so much staying power is because it is very rewatchable. The story stays as good and you get to catch all the subtle foreshadowing that you might have missed.
I so hope you are planning to watch the Bloopers after you finish the series. The production team for FMAB made a reel of bloopers and deleted scenes that are classic and hilarious.
Seconded! I mentally replace some scenes with the bloopers when I watch some reactions or rewatch the show, as some are so good and fit the characters so well! 😂
Something I've learned from various stories: if you want to really hinder an enemy army, you don't kill their people, you incapacitate them. Broken limbs, damaged muscles, whatever, you tie up extra resources taking care of their wounded that wouldn't be tied up from killing them.
That is actually something they talk about in boot camp. A dead person is the lost of one person, an injured person is the lost of up to three(injured and up to two to get them off the battlefield) Add in the mental component, when the enemy knows you are going to kill them, they will fight to the death, there is a reason prisoners are taken beyond the concept of being human.
You know the other difference between Olivia and those two guys she took out? She actually goes into battle with her troops. Those guys are corrupt pencil-pushers who haven't seen combat in decades, if ever. They're quite happy to throw away the lives of their troops, but never to risk themselves. Olivia would be on the front lines slashing away with that sword of hers.

@joepickup7305 this is why I need to get the manga lol. Most of that I've absorbed is from other people commenting about it. I'm trying to save up to get the Fullmetal edition of all the volumes
Correct. They show up more in the Ishval chapters of the manga but knowing who they are, while cool, isn't actually plot relevant so those stories got cut for time sadly. We also saw them briefly earlier as the group responsible for blowing up the Fuhrer's train.
I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that a lot of the best episodes of this amazing show are in this final part. The bad is that it absolutely does not stop and the end of every episode is probably going to be rough for you. The first time I watched FMAB, I binged the entirety of the remaining episodes in one go because I just couldn't stop.
Dunno if anyone has mentioned it, but when you finally get to the end you want to watch all the way through the end credits. Not spoiling it but you'll enjoy it.
This is pretty much the point in the show where it's very difficult to not immediately jump into the next episode after each episode. It does a really good job of stringing you along at the end of each.
Doesn't help that virtually every episode ends on a cliffhanger from here on. I mean, 90% of this series already ends on cliffhangers but Arakawa cranks that shit up to 11 at this point lol
I wish I remembered verbatim the line Shepherd Book had in “Firefly”… something like, “The Bible is a bit more fuzzy on kneecaps”, when Mal asks him about being a holy man doing that and him responding that he’s just not allowed to kill them… I can never get enough of Ed trolling Scar to get the better of those guards… Or just all the people coming in to help Mustang, including Ross and Havok.
It's an old tradition--the Bayeux Tapestry depicts priests wielding maces instead of swords at the Battle of Hastings because they were forbidden to draw blood. So they would just beat people to death. (It's unclear whether this was ever actually a thing, but the maker of the tapestry thought it was and it entered folklore and pop culture from there. It's why clerics in D&D and video games often wield maces.)
I wish I could remember which show it was that had an exchange along these lines: "It will take us X days to complete this project, sir." "Well, you've got half that." "Sorry, sir, but I wasn't actually padding my estimate. It's literally impossible to get this done in less than X days." "Oh. Oh, sorry. Well, I guess you have X days then." *walks off looking embarrassed*
Mustang and crew aren't just being non-lethal for the sake of it. Remember, they carry a ton of guilt for the genocide they carried out in Ishval, and rightly so. This is them trying to be better.

If there's ever an Anime series to get into it's probably Dragon Ball, like original Dragon Ball from 1986, even though it's a Shonen type Anime, I think you would come to appreciate watching it, because it has a certain charm to it of old 80's Anime, and by one of the most brilliant story writers of our time by Akira Toriyama who recently passed away earlier this year in March of 2024, and left behind two other great Anime shows Sand Land and new Dragon Ball DAIMA, but before you watch ANY of those shows, I think it would be nice to see you go through original OG Dragon Ball animated TV series from 1986, which will also lead up and into Dragon Ball Z, but original Dragon Ball is all about Adventure and Friends, while Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of Dragon Ball, but a little more focused in serious tones and fighting. I'd maybe recommend skip on Dragon Ball GT, even though it does have good moments, but a lot of bad moments, it's a mixed bag to say the least, and then there's Dragon Ball Super which was made in more recent times following 4 feature length films Battle of the Gods, Resurrection F, Super Broly, and Super Super Heroes. -- Pretty much in this order if you do decide to watch it *→ [ Dragon Ball (1986) → Dragon Ball Z (1989) → Dragon Ball GT (1996) → DBZ: Battle of the Gods (2013) → DBZ: Resurrection F (2015) → Dragon Ball Super (2015) → Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018) → Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (2022) → Dragon Ball DAIMA (2024) ]*
Worried about a major cliffhanger? That happens every episode from now until the end of the show. 😂
The difference between fighting a war and winning one. Briggs are winners.

Hawkeye is worth at least five by herself.
Anyone that tells you “it’s all downhill from here” is telling on themselves about their own lack of taste, experience and exposure. Plenty of amazing anime to enjoy.
No. Avoid at all costs. So much pointless bloat that the show is completely unwatchable. Fights that should take 5 minutes instead take 5 episodes.
