    Patience and consistency- I love the kindness in your words! Thank you for this video! My babe is only 9.5m but has transitioned to cows milk(pedi approved) and loves her water from a straw already.

    Just had my 12 month pediatrician appointment with baby and been really stressing myself out, specially since ped wants her transitioned off the bottle by her next appointment at 15 months! Baby girl has not taken to any cup so far and now we have to start transitioning to cows milk. Now i feel more reassured knowing i can just focus on the milk for now and then the cups. Worrying about both was really stressing me out.

    Thank you for the tips! Is there a typical range of time that we should expect them to drink the milk from the cup? I think you mentioned your son Ryan did it in 5 days. I’ve been trying to get my 13 month old to take his afternoon bottle from a cup for a month now (using the gradual method)and no luck 😩 He’s taken maybe only two sips and then chunks the cup to the floor. Thank you for all you do!

    Thanks for the video. The tips on transitioning using the middle feeds make a lot of sense, but our 16 month old is now down to 2 feeds, one first thing in the morning and one before bed. He's a good eater and happy to sip water from the cup at mealtimes and snack time. Would you recommend introducing milk in a cup at one snack or meal time to familarise him with this? He's recently transitioned to cow's milk over a couple of weeks without too much hassle.

      Yes I think offering a cup of milk with one meal a day is a great idea! Think about which meal of the day he’s most agreeable and offer it then, he may not take it initially but offer it consistently and stick with water the rest of the meals/snacks until he’s taking milk consistently at the initial meal and then you can switch other desired meals with milk too

    Thank you so much for your videos! My baby has no interest in water no matter the cup. Do I need to worry about about dehydration during this transition?

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  4 місяці тому

      I'd look at overall intake, you can get a fair amount of water from certain foods (esp fruits) and milk/formula/breast milk have a lot of water in them so I'd watch urine output but in general if drinking other fluids during the transition and eating well dehydration is unlikely. Keep exposing to water, sometimes it takes many many times before they get the hang of it!

    Thank you so much, what do you suggest if we use the bottle for nap time, like giving him a bottle in his crib so he can go to sleep?

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  5 місяців тому +1

      I'd try to wean that, leaving a bottle in the crib can increase risk of cavities and ear infections. You could try dropping that bottle cold turkey or, as long as old enough for water could try putting water in instead of formula/BM as a way to transition out of it

    I'm going through transitioning from bottle to sippy cup of my 3 years old and it's getting so hard 😥 when I bought cup, for first few days she drank but then start refusing and now she asks for the bottle of her younger sister because i have hidden all her bottles. Idk what to do, she refuses to even drink milk ☹️

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  Рік тому

      I'd try to be consistent and explain to her that now she's big she gets a special big girl cup. You can try giving her a few choices of which cup to use and celebrate when she drinks from her cup. As long as she's drinking enough to stay hydrated it's ok if her milk intake drops a bit during the transition. She should pick back up once she's fully transitioned. Best of luck!

    What cup is baby using in this video?

      We were using the take and toss cup. I also like a honey bear cup or ezpz. All cups that are great for small mouths! Have them linked in amazon storefront!

    Is there a right time to start trying to transition? My baby is 10 months old and daycare wants to try to transition to cup. They say he does well with the cup with water. Is it too early?

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  6 місяців тому

      If they drink well from the cup and drink an adequate amount there is no harm in switching earlier!

    Hi my baby is about to be 6 month old I have decided to shift bottle formula feeding for him to small open cup feeding. When i first feed him by holding small glass he refused to accept and started crying.after one and two feeding when he has realised he will only get milk via small glass.due to hunger, he has started sipping. Now he is pro at it and drinks very fast.😅 I personally realise as early you start that would be easier. I give him only bottle at midnight while he demands in between sleep.

    My kid keep taking the straw out of the cup and play with it. Is there any way to prevent it?

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  Рік тому

      I’d just give them a warning “straws are for drinking not playing. If you take out the straw again I’ll have to take the straw away and we’ll try again later” and then follow through if they play again. Eventually they’ll catch on, straws are for drinking not playing!

    I tried cup and straw to my 12months old but then she only drank 50ml than in a usual bottle 200ml. So I stopped.

      I still think it's valuable to continue to offer the cup! The more exposure she has the quicker she will learn how to use it

      @@pedsdoctalktv9960 hi doc thanks for your reply. And one more question i know it is not related in this video but i couldnt find in your list. Is it still okay to give my toddler a teether? I stopped pacifier at 11months and now shes sucking her rabbits ears😀. What should i do?
