  • Ave Maria! Recently, the Supreme Pontiff expressed the view that Hell is empty on Italian primetime TV. In today's episode Fr. Serafino and Fr. George discuss this remark in light of 2,000 years of Church Tradition, reaffirming the perennial teaching of the Church. Jesus Christ Himself said "Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat." (7.13-14). How can we square this with the opinion that hell is empty? This episode hopes to clarify Our Blessed Lord's infallible teaching.

Gratitude to Radio Immaculata for illuminating a pertinent topic requiring clarification in our contemporary times. Regarding the profound discourse on the Mercy and Justice of God, I once encountered a thought-provoking notion that suggested God's Mercy extends exclusively to those who harbor a reverential awe for His Justice. This articulation beautifully encapsulates the delicate equilibrium between Mercy and Justice in a single sentence. Moreover, it underscores a crucial insight, as a significant number of souls go to hell by solely relying on the concept of God's Mercy, thereby indulging in unrestrained pursuits, often veering towards the path of sin. Ave Maria!!!

I love Father George, he is just like the old priests I remember from my childhood. Straight talking, no nonsense but always charitable, wise and inspiring. This is one of my favourite channels. Thank you Father Seraphino and to all the fathers who contribute to your channel. I prayed for you all. Ave Maria

Good to see you again Fr George. A long time since we met at the day with Mary in Hayes. A lot of water under the bridge since those days but good to see the Lord has kept you with us. God bless your work in the vineyard

“In my Father’s house there are many mansions.” As we have jails here there are likely regions or dimensions where troublemakers are held. A merciful God would not have a medieval version of fire. The only burning would be from the mental torments of those who do harm.

Pope Francis teaches that even a Christian can lose one's salvation through disobedience and refusal to show mercy to others! Pope Francis teaches that the Devil is very real and very much at work in the world, but acknowledges free will is always present! Pope Francis simply hopes no one would refuse God's mercy, as would God, but acknowledges free will is always present to refuse!

We cannot wish something false, Jesus said that when He comes at Judgment Day, He will welcome the Blessed ones at His Kingdom and will say to the ones at his left: go to the fire of hell prepared for the devil and his angels, Our Lord has told us what will happen, this is true, this is the Catholic doctrine for 2000 years, , it's based on the Gospel and Holy tradition. We need to work for our salvation with fear and tremble, never despair, never presume of the mercy of God

@casarovigooglemail yes we can, as God wishes none shall Perish as stated in Peter's letter! Please tell God He is not allowed to wish for something false! Best of luck to you with that! Again, Pope Francis teaches that even a Christian can lose one's salvation through disobedience and refusal to show mercy, and yet, acknowledges free will is always present to refuse! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink

So if my partner won’t marry me as he is not Catholic, and we have a child together who I am raising as Catholic because ‘I know better’ and would like my child to have a good marriage and truly know, love and serve dear Jesus that means I’m likely to go to hell.
I know that Jesus is merciful, and knows my hearts intentions therefore he sees…
I think it’s dangerous to assume that those who are in relationships but not married are living in a state of sin.. but with our times and many people who do not see a marriage in ‘Gods eyes’ important it is very difficult with most of society.
The church’s teaching on marriage is to protect the family with a sacrament - but it is the individual to nurture a family in their faith..
I know many a married Catholic family not worshiping regularly and have two parents that are officially married and their children don’t go to Church….
But because they are married… they won’t go to hell?

People are taking the Pope's comments far too seriously. His exact words were "I like to think of Hell as empty. I hope it is."
He did not say "Hell is empty." He did not say "There is a possibility that Hell could be empty." He did not say "Hell doesn't exist." He said that he likes to think of it as empty, which means that he would like to believe that God's mercy and love has the potential to overpower the sinfulness of humans. Whether it actually is empty or not is another story--But we ourselves should behave with infinite mercy because the ultimate expression of God is love and mercy (in its many forms). How is that so hard to understand?

Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, “eternal fire.” (CCC 1035) If Jesus didn't hope His teaching is wrong, why should His disciples?

    • @TheForeignersNetwork
      @TheForeignersNetwork 5 місяців тому +1

@@johnf2023 Because we are not Jesus, and we don't have direct evidence of where mortal sinners end up when they die. We may have faith that wrongdoers will receive their just deserts, but to pretend like we know better than God where these people end up is akin to knowing the thoughts of God as a human, which is impossible.
What if God, in his infinite mercy and compassion, decided to save a mortal sinner upon their death and take them to heaven for reasons that are beyond our natural human comprehension? To deny that such a thing is possible would be to truncate the omnipotence of the creator of souls. That's why we pray for sinners rather than judging them, because to judge someone's postmortem destination is to infringe upon God's sovereign domain. Pope Francis, therefore, is rather wise to maintain the hope that hell could be empty, because regardless of whether or not this is the case, we should treat others as if it were.
It would behoove Catholics everywhere to do the same. The spirit of charity and love should take precedence over the condemnation of others, because we are not the ones who will ultimately be doing the condemning. I believe that's the spirit of Pope Francis's statement, and I don't think it takes rocket science to understand that.

I was listening to your discussion. Maybe I missed something. I have a question to you. As you mentioned most souls go to hell. I understand it is very important to protect ourselves from ending there. Thank you for explaining it to me and other listeners. You said that if soul is in hell there is no way for that poor soul to be saved. My question is: what the point of praying for all those departured souls. All this Georgian masses, masses for departed etc are just waisting of time. I don’t know who from my departed relatives is saved and who end up in hell. Listening to you, probably all of them are in hell. Me and most of my family members are sinners or departed were sinners. I was always prying for departed members of my family, asked for mass to be celebrated for repose of their souls. Now when I heard you it looks it all was in vain. Maybe I was wrong but I thought that the Catholic Church was teaching, that we can help departed souls. From you, I understood that there is no hope for those in hell, where according to you majority of souls go. The only hope is to save myself from going to hell. I am really confused.

From what I know. which is very little. The reasons we pray for the departed is for the Souls that are in Purgatory. I think God gives sinners an opportunity at death to repent and to save themselves, but sadly some will reject Gods mercy.

Jesus said, You must be born again. John 3:3-8. "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Why? "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter i to the kingdom of God.
That whjch is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is spirit." Verses 3:5-6.
Born again is also called regeneration. Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary online.
'Regeneration means; Reproduction, the act of producing anew. In theology, New birth by the grace of God, that change by which the will and natural enmity of man to God and his law are subdued, and a principle of supreme
love to God and his law, or holy affections, are implanted in the heart.'
Humbling isn't it. We cannot do that on our own, even with tons and tons of repenting God.
Jesus said, My words are spirit and life." John 6:63. We cannot walk by the Spirit when we walk by our own understanding, called sin.
Ask God to send the Holy Ghost, Luke 11:13. He will bring your sins to mind. As he does ask Jesus to forgive you. This will be painful, pride hates it!
When you see your desperate need, call out to Jesus to see save you. He came to save sinners.
Then do as the risen Jesus commanded, be baptized. Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38 and Acts 22:16. John's water baptism is a baptism of repentance. Mark 1:1-5 Matthew3:6, Luke 3:3, Acts 13:24, 19:4.
Know that it is appointed once to die and then the judgment. "So Chtist was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." Hebrews 9:27-28.
Think on Mark 16:16, John 3:3-8, 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 6:3-11, 1 Corinthians 12:13 and Colossians 2:6-15. These explain the importance of baptism.

Ave Maria @mattpoznanski . Thanks for your comment. Once a soul has been condemned to hell, it is there for all eternity. When it has arrived there, it cannot escape, because the punishment of hell is eternal. That is the teaching of the Catholic Church. This, however, should not stop us from praying for our departed relatives and friends, because we do not know where their souls are - only God does. Even though they may have been great sinners, God could have granted them a special grace of conversion before death which we could not see. So it is actually very important to pray for them because they may be in Purgatory.
If we pray for a soul which happens to be in hell, this prayer will not be in vain, because, although the damned soul cannot benefit, God will apply the merits of that prayer to another soul who will benefit from it. Though the souls in hell cannot be assisted by our prayers, God will never allow any of our prayers to go to waste. When we pray for departed souls, we are praying especially for those in Purgatory who suffer a great deal, and need our prayers to be delivered into Heaven. Our prayers can certainly help them, and it is an act of great charity to pray often for them. Also, because God is outside of time, He can apply the merits of the prayers we say now to the souls of our departed relatives and friends before they actually died. Before they died God saw that in the future you prayed much for them, and He can take these prayers into account in order to bring about their conversion before death. So make sure to keep praying for your departed friends and relatives! God bless - we hope this helps.

Hell isn't empty but Purgatory is because it doesn't exist.

Nobody can say anything because nobody has seen hell.. Jesus also never said He saw hell with condemned people...be pragmatic.. not on theology....or reading from books... only Christianity and Islam believe in hell.. right....
