They are farm cats so they are used to being there for their job- go after the mice! It was a fantastic introduction and exactly what you want from any animal interaction- slight interest/curiosity and then ignoring/keeping space. It couldn't have gone better!

He is the cutest! I would keep him in the house, too. I raised a squirrel, and he still sleeps in the house after spending all day outside. I helped him build his drey, and he still uses it. I love him dearly! So I know exactly how you feel about him!

I was born and raised on a small farm in rural northeast ohio, we didn't have brooder boxes, over the years lots of little chicken chicks found their way under my chin at night untill mom could put something together for em, 2-3 days in the house inside my shirt most the day and under my chin all night I couldn't go the bathroom without chicks following me, needless say, I love the vids with chicks lol. Love everything you guy are doing there it makes remember the days gone by.

But I think he is bamboo's baby. Because to have white emu, you need recessive gene. In short, chances to get a normal looking eme from a 2 white emu couple or white and blonde emu is kind of rare.
There’s a % that any colored emu can have different colored chicks. Just like white peacocks can have different colored chicks.

Is it at all possible that Bamboo is that chick's dad? I guess I don't know anything about Emu genetics, but he looks like a standard. Is that possible if the parents are a blond and a white?
@MrsEWhite87 I believe there’s a certain % chance the chicks can be standard, blond or white. Don’t know the specifics.
I think so:
More emu breeders' sites write that you can get a standard chick from a blond mother if the father is either standard or blond. Blond emu with white emu produces blond and white chicks. So we can assume, that Bamboo is the dad for the standard chick.
But there was a white chick that died in the egg, so it looks like, there were multiple dads, and so the other chicks - if they hatch - can be any color from this 3 options.

i think i subscribed around the time you got Bamboo, maybe a bit before. it's crazy that its been five whole years and now you have a baby emu on the farm again!
