"Help!" The last album before everything began to change. With 'Rubber Soul,' the whole world of popular music began to metamorphosize, and with 'Revolver,' they led the world and music splintered into so many different genres.
sounds about right sir....... the Beatles affected so much of what happened in music at the time and it seems that they are still important all these years later
Another Girl has some great George Harrison guitar licks in it! I love how "rootsy" and bluesy his guitar sounds on that song! Badass, the lot of them!
@@michaelbriefs9764 On the same album (Help!) Paul also plays lead guitar on 'Ticket to Ride', and the guitar solo in 'The Night Before' is played by Paul and George at the same time.
"I Need You," was not the second track released written by George. His first, on the Polydor label, was, "Cry For A Shadow," written by George Harrison and John Lennon.
Again from the movie HELP, these songs were written in mind for the movie, George's use of a volume pedal is prominent here, a brand new device then, even before the wah wah pedal. Love this song, it grew on me, and is better than it seems. the volume foot pedal on the guitar really gives this song character. It was also used in the song Yes It Is around the same time.
I Need You: George and Patti had been dating for awhile, he's letting her know he wants to take it to a new level. They would marry the following year (66).
I Need You...There are some kind of bongos on this, an underlying percussion with deeper sweeter tone than a drum set, which is more subtle yet moves the song forward. Total musical taste to suit the theme of the song rather than just banging on the drums...same idea from And I Love Her earlier
George and Patti may have been taking a break, but the big split didn't happen til the 70's. But yeah, this is where the Beatles start getting just a little progressive on their albums. It's so cool to follow that evolution across this and the next three albums. For example: there's barely any drums on "I Need You". For all their talent, I always felt the Beatles were amazingly without ego when it came to the production of their recordings. If George Martin told Ringo "I don't think we'll really need you on this one" he'd say "OK, sure." They were always great about tailoring the production to what would best suit the recording, not to some kind of formula. IMO "Another Girl" is the flip side of "The Night Before" -- both great McCartney rockers.
I don't think Ringo played acoustic guitar on "I Need You". There is some information that he may have used an acoustic guitar as a percussion instrument -- as in, he tapped on ithe back of t during the song -- but he was also playing drums on the song, In the film "Help!", Ringo is playing drums during the "Recording in the fields"-scene from the movie. I had never heard of Ringo playing guitar on any Beatles song until now. I don't know about that...
I had no idea that Ringo played guitar on any of their recordings!!! Learn something new everyday…! Also interesting your comment on the rockabilly influence of “Another Girl”… of course, back when I heard this originally I had no idea what rockabilly was…
Patti Boyd had these songs written for or about her. I need you, If I needed someone, For you blue, Something..........Bell Bottom Blues, Wonderful tonight, Layla, and most likely a couple George and Eric didn't mention. She is most celebrated muse in history.
Boyd left Harrison for his best friend Clapton in 1974. Some would view this as the ultimate marital betrayal, but Harrison's response was surprisingly good-natured. So on this song they were still ok
It wasn't so much that she left George Harrison for Eric Clapton. She and George Harrison had grown apart for years as he became more interested in Eastern religion, but what ultimately got to her was his constant infidelity, especially when he had an affair with Ringo Starr's wife Maureen. She left Harrison in 1974, their relatively amicable divorce was final in 1977, and she married Clapton in 1979.

I did like the beatle song Another girl which play during the movie help you see the beatles Having fun, you also see Paul McCartney Playing a girl like a electric guitar also is very much fun. I know the critics did not enjoy help As much hard days night But I certainly did .
"... our favorite Beatle"?! 😮 Actually, I enjoyed all of them in their own way, but as a very young lady, I went for the sweetness of Paul. True confessions.❤😂 I forgive you....
Why does everyone assume that every time someone other than George is playing lead that it is because he was struggling or the other person was usurping his role? When working out an arrangement and assigning parts, The Beatles, and any other group, could be pretty flexible. You work it out. Perhaps George WANTED to play acoustic or Paul already had an idea for how he wanted to play the guitar.
Love your enthusiastic reactions. George is my favorite but the four of them together is what made the Beatles so different. Once their solo careers began, you can see how much Lennon and McCartney helped each other. George wrote much better songs (and yes, people, I know he wrote some stinkers too but not many) as a solo artist. Not many Paul or John solo works give me the same sense of joy that their work in the Beatles did. Best band ever!
Agree with you, just that John and Paul never helped each other in their solo careers. And yes, George wrote much better songs and with really deep lyrics that make you think, he is also my favorite as soloist, and as a band they four were essential and all four great in their own way.
No he didn’t. Only 2 of his albums were very good and even then, his first was unnecessarily bloated with plenty of filler. All the albums between Extra Texture and Gone Troppo (inclusive) were mediocre at best. He didn’t truly get his mojo back until Cloud Nine. Besides, music is subjective. I get far more joy from Paul’s post-Beatles discography than I do with the music of the others. Most people listen to music as a form of escapism. You don’t always have to be challenged in some way. Sometimes all you need is a damn good melody and Paul is streets ahead of the others in that regard.
@@markydh83 As you said, music is subjective. I own all George’s albums and find lots of great songs on them. Not all, as I said. It’s funny, because I think Paul had the best voice in the Beatles, but he was never my favorite and his solo work is mostly (not all, of course) a pass for me (all things must pass, right?). I guess it’s what appeals to each person.
@@markydh83 And by the way, I don’t find All Things Must Pass “bloated” with plenty of filler. I have probably played it a thousand times and I never get tired of it.
@@markydh83 Honestly I have never ever felt challenged listening to any kind of music and apart from just good melody I look for what brings something to my life in any way and actually says something, all my favorites from George contribute widely in that regard: 'Beautiful girl', 'True love', 'Love comes to everyone', 'Blow away', 'Grey cloudy lies', 'Dear one', Tired of midnight blue', 'If you believe', 'Dream away', 'That which I have lost', 'Flying hour', 'Life itself', 'All those years ago', 'Baby don't run away', 'You', all those from the albums you said are not good, well that's your opinion and I respect that, and yes music is subjective.

Wait until you go ahead with this journey and hopefully with George's solo work, most of his songs are really deep, filled with emotion, and with meanings that can be adapted to different circumstances, 'Something' was written about Pattie too, and this one not based on a true story with her, this was long before she left him. Second song not one of my favorites actually.

Patti may have ended up marrying George’s best friend, but George had an affair with Ringo’s wife! All’s fair in love and war, they say! Anyway, moving on to Paul and Jane Asher. They had a somewhat complicated relationship. There was always conflict between what Paul needed from her and the fact she wanted to pursue her acting career. Made all the more difficult by the fact they lived in her parents’ house, albeit in separate rooms. There are other songs around this time that are very much inspired by their difficulties and disagreements. I’m not sure whether or not he actually cheated on her at this point (he did later on). We do know for sure that John was cheating on Cynthia constantly, though. Maybe he’s channeling that, too.

"I Need You," was not the second track released written by George. His first, on the Polydor label, was, "Cry For A Shadow," written by George Harrison and John Lennon.
"I Need You" got me thinking about George Harrison's "Think For Yourself" from the "Rubber Soul" album where he really infuses the fuzz on his guitar.
