Hopefully MTA makes the Interborough Express like this and doesn't mess up.

Phoenix resident here! I've started riding the buses and light rail ever since I started going to ASU 4 years ago, and I'm glad you liked our little public transit system! Hopefully you come back and try the Tempe Street Car (the green train you saw) and one day you build up enough courage to try the Waymo cars. I've ridden in them a fair few times and they are very safe. They only stick to city roads for now and they go _exactly_ the speed limit.

There are two extensions currently under construction that will turn the light rail line into two, with a north-south line going from the old Metrocenter mall down to Central Ave/Baseline in South Phoenix. They are also planning extensions into West Phoenix, and also extensions to the new streetcar line in Tempe that opened in May of 2022.

Don’t forget what I mentioned should you decide to make another trip to Phoenix - if you see a bus stop but don’t know what route runs through it, see what address number the street sign shows - the first 2-3 numbers will be the route number. Northern Avenue addresses will be 80xx, so the route number will be 80.
Keep in mind, this route number is for the PRIMARY street it runs through. The 138 bus is one notable exception because Thunderbird Road (138xx) merges with East Cactus Road (122xx) at Cave Creek road, Since West Cactus road ends at 19th Avenue, the 122 bus turns south at 19th Avenue to end at Dunlap Avenue.
The 90 bus, while it runs through Dunlap avenue (90xx), turns to Cave Creek road as Dunlap Avenue ends near a mountain park.
All buses do have bike racks to store your bikes.
Starting in 2024, the 3 new stations they built are scheduled to open. The platforms and the Metro Center terminal are pretty much completed. The MetroCenter terminal especially looks great at night with its lights! (Especially if you pass by the I-17).

An interesting cacti fact: Cactus species are all found only in the Americas...well, all except ONE! Because Rhipsalis baccifera is not just native to the Americas but is also found naturally in tropical parts of Africa (like West Africa and the Congo rainforest) as well as Sri Lanka where it's known as nawahandi! How did it get to Africa and Sri Lanka? One theory claims it was migratory birds that introduced it to these places so long ago that they now count as their own distinct species.

Yes, the button opens doors! NJT's River LINE has that too. This system reminds me of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail I once took all the time when I lived in Jersey City. As for people who check for fares, the vast majority of the time there's no one doing that on the HBLR. Only happened to me once for the one time I didn't pay...was going from 9th/Congress to Newport which is two stops and was caught at the very next stop at 2nd St but they just told me to get it from the machine instead of getting a fine!
The HBLR stretches from North Bergen to Bayonne with a total length of 17 miles and three routes (though one only runs on weekdays; Hoboken Terminal to Tonnelle Ave), uses a combination of old rail and new exclusive rights-of-way for most of its length, with some grade separation in certain areas. It shares a lane with cars on a portion of Essex Street in downtown JC but for the most part, it doesn't operate with other traffic. It provides connections to the PATH (subway between NJ and NYC) at three stops, NY Waterway ferries, and NJT rail at Hoboken Terminal! It's legit

To answer a question you asked - police officers periodically go through cars to check for valid fares. This is the case in other cities (like Minneapolis, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Portland, and Seattle) where they use proof of payment ticketing. If you take the light rail in Jersey City, you may also encounter cops who check your fare.

Yup, shelters are especially important for this kind of climate! Having a bus shelter may not be much, but it can go a long way. We actually have a pretty solid tram system. The first line of the current system opened in 1989, and the system currently has four lines in operation at a total length of 53.5 km/33 miles. Our original system was completely destroyed during the war in the 1950s, as well as the rest of Pyongyang, so we built a new one from scratch.
Phoenix's airport is called SKY Harbor! And the PHX Sky Train has Innovia APM 200 (Alstom) rolling stock. Only two other places use the 200s and they're Heathrow Terminal 5 (between the terminal and its satellite buildings) and the DFW Skylink. The MIA Mover uses Crystal Mover rolling stock manufactured by Mitsubishi.

In the Sunnyslope area, if you head to 19th ave and Cholla, it is one end of the free shuttle bus, the SMART. Circulates all over Sunnyslope and ends at 15th st & Cinnabar.
Moved from NYC to Phoenix in 2022.
Also, if you walk to 19th Ave and Desert Cove, the main bus facility for the buses are there for the Phoenix North division. Transdev handles this specific division and reliability is on-par with NICE bus.
Anyways, the route number corresponds with the primary street. For example, the 122’s main route is along Cactus Road, which all street addresses would be 122xx. The 19’s main route is, 19th Avenue, the 106 route travels along Peoria Ave, which street addresses are 106xx.

The yellow button is a door open button for when the train is idle or waiting for a permissive bar signal while at a platform. The yellow button is enabled only by the operator, and otherwise is disabled from passenger use. But while enabled, passengers are free to open any door they like upon request with the button.

28:54 Thats actually Tempe’s “Orbit” bus system. There’s different transit centers around Tempe and the Orbit buses connect them. The transit centers are usually connected to the lightrail and/or Tempe’s street car system and also buses to different Tempe neighborhoods.
On the street where I live, I take the Orbit bus right at my doorstep, go to a transit center, then take the lightrail to Downtown Phoenix for attending events. Tempe is pretty transit friendly tbh.

When it comes to the busses they go north/south and east/westward in pretty migh straight to/from lines, every mile or so with the arterial grid. Phoenix is interesting with the busses, just wish more streets had separated bus lanes. there's so much room you can reorganize stuff that way. If you have enough room for one might as well incorporate it to make bus service not be suspect to so much traffic . especially at highway intersections.
edit: wish there was more to have frequent service no matter what time of day. Sitting in the heat for up to an hour just suuucks. I adore the metro system and phoenix voted to continue construction. It's proven it's worth since the 2010's

So many!!! As a native Arizonian {born in mesa} compared to other commuter trains and buses I've ridden, phoenix metro rail and the way it is ran is a joke! The train and buses shutdown WAY to early{especially on the weekends). The train has been running for fifteen years and the only other two extensions (which are not finished} go no where any one needs! San Francisco has a T line that only took ten years to complete and it is mostly under ground. As far as Tempe and the trolley, it was unanimously voted down by the people of Tempe but still built anyway. There has been talk about extending it into mesa {right now it really goes no where, mostly built for ASU students to go a few blocks down Apache Blvd. to get to class} stopping at Sloan park where the cubs have spring training. It has been free for past two years but starting in Jan. 2024 it will cost a dollar each ride. Most students I've asked said they will stop riding once they have to pay. The metropolitan Phoenix area is a automobile one but is growing so fast and the city planners are not or don't want to keep up!!!!!

light rail is sort of like a tram in that it can run in the street, but has higher capacity, heavier, has a higher top speed, and can run in multiple car consists. They are more expensive to construct than trams because the road has to be reconstructed and utilities moved out of the weay, whereas a tram or streetcar you can just lay tracks and be done.
