This video rings so true for me. And it's so weird because I have no problem with mimicking French speakers but when I try to mimic Spanish speakers I feel phony and like I don't belong with their group. It makes me so sad. So I'm really hoping to figure out what is hindering me and how to overcome those feelings when it comes to sounding native with Spanish. ❤❤❤

Aaaaaaaahhhhhh…this is good! I’ve noticed how friends who are NOT trying to learn Mandarin role play and exaggerate the accent and diction and actually are better at “hitting” the correct tones than I am. It’s like I’m working too hard and they’re playing and exaggerating and actually sounding better than me. Also their confidence and cockiness that shows as they are toying with Mandarin is working to their advantage…while I’m being almost too serious as a student. Your points and tips are well-taken. I need to join the club of feeling comfortable in my learning. Thanks!

Great topic for a video. The video edit cuts were sooo distracting though, they were happening every few seconds!

Totally agree with your points! I used to stay at Hakka speaking area. Although my Hakka listening comprehension is better than speaking . My families told me the facts they found recently after I moved back to Taichung(form Hsin Chi 10 years later). My Mandarin speaking sounds like those people who live in Hakka speaking areas. I have not idea when(why/how) I speak Hakka accent Mandarin.

@@thedanyopang I knew that I got used to Hakka accent Mandarin when I stayed in Hakka speaking area. I'm kind of imitating the people around me(my neighbors/friends/colleagues)

💯! Most people try to speak a foreign language in their own language’s sounds - the sounds they’re most comfortable in. So they never end up with pronunciation that sounds accurate due to fear of sounding “weird” or not comfortable for them. You a,most have the play act the culture of the foreign language you’re learning. Become the people of that culture, try and sound as they sound even if it seems pretend. In that way you will get closer to embodying their native accent than, not!
