@19:36 I must be #9. I already know how to solder and build but you should never stop learning. Thumbs up for what the kit does. I need every advantage I can get to practice CW.
Thank you so much for this little nugget about “Iambic Master”. I ordered an FTDI USB Serial board for my home brew k3ng keyer and modified its code for WinKeyer support (its built into the k3ng sketch). The FTDI arrived today at work at lunch and I was using Iambic Master at work about 15 mins later. This program is brutal for me as I am getting back into CW. I can already see how this is going to best tool for getting good at sending CW.
I have one of these WKUSB kits on the way. Your video was really good. I would recommend though that you open up the box and remove the paper cover from the speaker that you mounted on the board. The cover says to leave it in place until you "wash" the board which uses chemicals to remove the flux residue around the solder joints. Once you are finished with the washing, if you chose to do that, then remove the covering from the speaker and I would think the sound would be much louder than you experienced in the video. An excellent video for sure. Bob - W5QCP
Usually you do put the switches on the side where the silkscreen shows, but if the directions say to solder them on the other side then that's the way it should go.
Well done! I've got some of the same tools...lol. Those boards, most of the components that are already there are surface mounted by machines, the through hole stuff is what they leave for "fun" for us hobby types. One of my coworkers does some board designing and we send it off to a board house, and we get them to do most of the surface mounting items. I'm digging that board holder! Oh yeah, those "helping hands magnifier" thing is a PITA...but it does have uses. I've got a QCX: 5W CW transceiver kit I need to build...I should make a video. Great video!
Yes, this is a super easy kit. I've been playing with it quite a bit, theres a key game Iambic Master that's very difficult. Making a video on it soon. Yes, make the 5W TX kit I'd watch it.
I kinda made this video for the beginner in mind. Someone that's thinking about doing their first soldering project. Very easy to solder and very rewarding. I don't know why but it's just cool.
Yep, I remember going to the library to use Chiltons manuals to fix cars...had to take notes because reference books couldn't be checked out....Encyclopedias....yeah...and unless your parents had the "junior" version they were written hard to understand...lol
Nice job. I have the older model that I use every day. It's great for older radios that don't have a built in keyer. I noticed that you still had the protective cover on the pizo speaker as you were assembling the covers. If you remove that, the audio will be louder.
I love the Radio Shack solder, I just ran out of my last Radio Shack tube of solder at the end of last summer and had to actually search on where to buy solder as I’d only ever bought it from RS all my life (I’m 49). I just finished a K3NG keyer project with an Arduino. I’m using this one for practice sending only at the moment. I like the idea of interfacing with a computer to use more advanced programs for CW sending.
Sadly, it appears that the kits are no longer available. Only a “completed and tested” (don’t you love it when marketing creeps into otherwise enjoyable avocations?) built device is now available. Peter Drucker once observed, “Most companies have no idea why customers actually buy from them.” I’d say, “bingo.”

Nice Job. You are the Bob Ross of soldering. I will try and dig my Winkeyer kit out this weekend. I didn't realize it was that simple.

Thanks you are correct. I think another commenter saw that also. This little kit is a great practice tool. See my other video about the CW "Game"

Great idea and thank you for watching!
Really nice video. I want to learn code too so you gave me great confidence in building the kit to learn code.
Yes! This is a great easy kit. Get started and have fun! It's addictive

Because making these things are cheap and it's fun!....Because the inner nerd in us is strong...lol
If ONLY we had the internet as kids am I right? I used to dig for information in what? Encyclopedias. Ridiculous!

Charlie K0LAF omg duhhh. I need to remove that I thought it was irrelevant but probably does make a difference thanks for the tip!
enjoyed this video very much thanks
adrian forrester thanks for kind comment

Cool, I can setup my K3NG keyer to emulate Winkey, thanks. github.com/k3ng/k3ng_cw_keyer/wiki/370-Feature:-Winkey

Are you kidding? That's crazy sad. One of my favorite easy kits!
I think you left the paper over the speaker. It should be removed.
Thanks for the video but bullshit on the water. Foil sucks!
ok
