  • Can you spot the difference between Brick Stitch and Peyote Stitch?!? Like most beaders, it is relatively simple to get these two beadweaving stitches mixed up as they are quite similar. In Better Beaders Episode 149, Allie gives a brief summary of how to tell what stitch is being used based on looking at a completed project - she alludes to the fact that it's all about the thread paths so stay tuned to learn more!

Thank you Allie. I’ve been wondering how you can tell the difference and you did a great job of explaining. Appreciate it.

I appreciate the video and will definitely help when physically looking at a completed piece as well as a pattern that shows thread path. But when looking at a picture I don’t know how you would be able to see the thread path

I can tell tell the difference, but I don’t know why. I think I work it out based on the most logical way to make something. Foe example increasing and decreasing peyote stitch is too convoluted for most projects, and brick stitch usually won’t be super long.

Allie, it would be great to see how you can identify brick or peyote in a pattern.

Is there any difference in stiffness? I'm working a brickstitch bead purse pattern now, but using peyote stitch. I'm happy with the look/feel, but wonder whether it might make a difference in other projects. Good information about thread showing along the edges.

I’ve read that brick stitch is more supple than peyote.

For me personally the stiffness of my project is usually the first key. My peyote tends to be soft and flexible
