My name is Phuong, I live in a poor rural area in the North of Vietnam.
I live in the rainforest, so bamboo grows a lot here.
I use the bamboo in my forest to make a bamboo house.
Due to the rain and many insects, I had a hard time finishing my bamboo house.
I hope you will like my bamboo house design 2021 and I also hope my video can help you in building your house.

In this video I have found how do you block water to come inside from the roof. I will just request you to show closely from the joints and from the points of knot. In this video I could not learn how did you make the door and how did you cover the top roof highest corner. Also what you did with empty spaces in this beautiful bamboo house. Very impressive skill and hard work--thank you for showing us that. I don't have the kind of skill and knowledge that you have, so I was thinking of making a simple "log cabin" style type shelter using large bamboo with a flat roof. I live in a colder climate, and I was going to "fill in" the bamboo sides (especially where the bamboo poles meet) with some insulated cob. Then I was thinking of knocking out most of the culms and putting insulation in them. In the bottom poles, to increase their strength and durability, I would use expanding foam and in the middle and upper ones, use cellulose insulation. (Forgot to add, the first pole on the bottom, would be placed on a row of cinder blocks to keep it off the ground).
Problem is, I don't have regular access to very large bamboo. (Nor does my spouse want to live off grid in a tiny house. I guess this is my backup plan if we ever break up).
As a tip to other folks, I've read from many different sources that bamboo needs to be heated (enough to destroy the enzymes that will convert some of the matter into weaker forms, around 120*F or so should do that), treated with borax water solution (borax mainly acts as a bug repellent and also helps some with mold), and then dried to make it last as long as possible A simple Solar heater could be used for the heating and drying (which could be as simple as a bunch of large boxes connected and glued together with most the middle panels taken out. The inside of the boxes painted black, and then some kind of clear plastic film stretched over the top).
Hello. If you use bamboo to make your home, you need to treat them in 2 ways to prevent insects and mold. The traditional way our ancestors used is to cut bamboo and soak it in the pond for about 3 or 4 months before using it. The second way you use fresh bamboo, you need to paint on a layer to protect the insects that eat bamboo. I wish you success with your project
