- Dear Jonah is an exciting and hilarious special that presses comedy boundaries not often crossed. Generally, a comedian has their set practiced hundreds of times before a special taping, but in Dear Jonah, a rare, unplanned moment unfolds when T.J. befriends a heckling audience member, Jonah, who derails the planned set in a hilarious and charming way. T.J. MILLER is one of the most sought after comedians in the comedy world, but not in the drama world, or the finance world. He was named one of Variety’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch,” and Entertainment Weekly's “Next Big Things in Comedy.” Miller’s voice stars in Disney’s Academy Award-winning animated feature, Big Hero 6.
You may recognize his non-animated face and body from his roles in Fox’s big screen comic book adaptation of Deadpool, the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, 2014’s surprise indie hit Transformers 4, and Mike Judge’s HBO comedy series Silicon Valley, now in its third season, for which he received the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Comedy. His podcast "Cashing in with T.J. Miller" on nerdist.com is listened to by 12 and ½ people, and he is a nationally touring stand-up artist, crisscrossing the country listening to Kris Kross (he's also done shows in the U.K. and Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico did not go well)). He has been performing his absurdist observational stand-up act for over 10 years, and has never gone to the bathroom in his pants on stage.
His hour-long Comedy Central stand-up special T.J. Miller: No Real Reason and hip-hop/pop/folk music album "The Extended Play E.P.," an E.P. with 41 tracks, and the "Illegal Art Remixtape" are all available now. He hosted Comedy Central’s Mash-Up, a mashup of stand-up, sketches and visualizations, and has appeared on Chelsea Lately more than most women his height. He got his start touring with Second City in Chicago and improvising with Annoyance Theater, iO, and managers at electronics stores asking why he was late and smelled like gin. Miller has been in a number of major studio films including Office Christmas Party, Cloverfield, She's Out of My League, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Our Idiot Brother, Yogi Bear 3D (Ranger Jones, his greatest role to date), Unstoppable, and Get Him to the Greek. Miller also talks like an old drag queen after a hard night of chain smoking, and thus voiced the character Tuffnut in the Oscar-nominated animated film How to Train Your Dragon, and How to Train Your Dragon 2. He voices Robbie from Gravity Falls on Disney, Tuffnut in the Netflix How to Train Your Dragon TV series, and Gorburger, a very strange show you just have to Google to understand. Upcoming films include Goon: Last of the Enforcers and Ready Player One directed by Steven Spielberg. He resides in Hollywood, California, where he struggles to find meaning in an uncertain world. Hey, TJ! Just watched this. I was Jonah’s high school counselor and am good friends with his family. This was amazing. I totally laughed out loud and had a good little cry! You’re funny but more importantly, you’re a good dude! I talked to Jonah’s mom yesterday and she said he had the best time! Good for you! You should be proud!

I’m 37 years old and my youngest sibling is 26, she has a mild case of cerebral palsy. Her mind is all there but she’s stunted physically due to a complication during birth. She absolutely LOVES it when I make fun of her or tell her to shut up when she’s making noise 😂. And it’s because she feels normal and included. And that’s all special needs people want. They love being heckled and included in normal every day things. As long as it’s all in good humor and fun of course. So good on you TJ for including Jonah you just gave him the best time of his life 👏🏾🥳
Always loved TJ but this special just made me love him even more! I think naming it "Dear Jonah" was a fantastic idea. That sweet guy will never forget this and show all his friends.

Just watched T.J. on Tiger Belly, and enjoyed it so much! Had to come here and watch the Dear Jonah special, and was not disappointed at all! The interaction with Jonah was so heartwarming. I'm a fan for life!

Saw him run lines with a live bear in the Hollywood zoo for his yogi bear audition. It’s hilarious. See if you can find it somewhere. Cuz YT keeps taking it down. He kinda panics a bit BECAUSE ITS A FU*KIN BEAR next to him. He has this “I didn’t think this through” nervous smile.
This was very funny and sweet. Each interaction with Jonah made me smile. As a parent of a child with special needs, this is the kindness we hope they receive from others. I love it, @T.J. Miller!

This is the best stand-up special I've seen in years. TJ is so intuitive when he reacts with the audience, it's amazing. We just don't get to see this level of comedy anymore and I miss it. Thank you TJ, and most of all thank you Jonah!

That was the best crowd I've ever seen. The way TJ was able to bring them together was crazy. Making the whole show almost seem like a team effort. Even when people were the butt of a joke everyone knew it was all in good fun. The blond and Trevor are truly great people. What a crazy good show.

I just think this guy's a natural, he's uplifting, he's trying to do what a lot of comics are trying to do - talk about everyday things, get a laugh, uplift the crowd - but not everyone can do it as well.

I've always liked TJ in movies but this was so sweet. The fact that it feels like a real person on stage bringing people together instead of a scripted act is refreshing. I'm a huge fan now.. and I might've cried a little bit.

Lovely special, TJ. This was dear to my heart, as I was raised as the middle child between two special needs brothers. Totally admirable crowd work, and quick thinking on your feet. I’d like to consider TJ a very good acquaintance. I’ve performed with him a few times and got to perform with him twice during the pandemic in Michigan where it was THE MOST LOCKED DOWN. Of all of the celebrities and entertainers I’ve worked with over the years he is the nicest. He talked me through a broken engagement (which was 2 days before our show) and after the show he greeted and talked to every fan that stayed after which was at least 200 over the 2 days. This special is a testament to this man’s passion and dedication to Stand Up Comedy and to the fans. Great job buddy!!

Still my favorite comedian. There's clips that sadly aren't online anymore but would showcase TJ's incredible crowd work and improv as early as 2008 and I remember being a kid and wondering how it was possible to even be that clever. I'd scour the internet for anything with his crowd work and it put all improv to shame even to this day. TJ is the king spontaneous punchlines and rambles. To this day his performance on "This isn't Happening" about his brain tumor is the funniest performance I've ever seen. This was fantastic! Thanks for putting it up here!
I had the same experience. I still think of TJ Miller as the best improv comedian / crowd work comedian I've ever seen because of those old clips.

Finally got to watch this and really enjoyed just exactly the vibe you get when you see T.J. live. Crowd of random laughter, some who are meh and wonder why they came in the first place, and then maybe the special few who shamelessly enjoy themselves that you can tell T.J. tries to entertain the hardest. It's the best, he's so interactive.

I'm just amazed at just how raw his comedy is and how smooth it was while also catering to the unique crowd he had in the way he did.
His crowd work has always been what set him apart. But I don't think any other comedian could do what he did in this special and still be as funny as he was. Absolutely love TJ Miller.

Wow, I was not sure how that was going to go. When you picked Jonah out of the crowd I could tell immediately he was special needs and oftentimes comics do not know how to move forward with that. It was a little awkward but I think you did a great job and that was so nice. These sorts of interactions stay with certain people for much longer and have a greater impact on them so I'm happy to see it's going to be a good memory for all.
It's like you listened to a couple of his interviews and than turned around and tried to act like the things he said during those interviews came straight from you.

I saw you back in 2019 at Zanies and I was at the 7pm show on the 16th in April. It was hilarious live. But this…this was just perfect. You responded to my comment on your instagram live and said “which night were you there? That’s important.” Now i know why. And it totally speaks to who you are as a person. I love this comment. It’s true- and that’s what improvisation is all about, and from a philosophical standpoint; the only great improvisation has to include that… being open, receptive and willing. And I’ll add- fearless. Because what’s the worst that could happen? You fail? I did that last night at my second show, and it didn’t feel great but it didn’t feel bad. Because the first show was almost completely Improvised and was literal fucking magic, thanks to the audience aaaaaand what you spoke of above!!!
I’ve loved you’re sense of humor since I was in high school. I’m 33 now and of course still love you and honestly It’s seriously inspiring to see you do stand up. I mean, you’re a gem for humanity. You look great too, like dude you look pretty fuckin young still and I’m sure there’s a good reason for that too. I’m happy to see you doing great. Stand up in 2022 is so different and I think this is absolutely perfect for UA-cam. It felt like I bought a ticket to a show, not so much a special. It felt really organic and you’re just fun to watch. I love the helmet. I loved the set. I loved the video. I pray that this rocks UA-cam and becomes something even bigger and reaches further in an unexpected way. That would be cool and I’m excited for more good stuff.

T J makes me feel alive and proud to be a human. Theres an honesty to his approach thats undeniable. I love when you witness people be themselves and flourish. If he feels fear on stage he doesnt show it. I laughed at a bunch of stuff the crowd didn't in the first 15 minutes. I guess i already arrived lubed up and ready for fun, but the crowd needed a little more foreplay. Great stuff.

Wow, just wow. My friend told me about you today after seeing you on Stevo's podcast so I checked that out and then before I could finish it, went straight to search for this special. It was just an absolute joy to watch and see your, no pun intended, interaction with Jonah. I loved it. My dad was a stand up comic and then on the show Laugh-In and Hogans heroes when I was little. He would've have absolutely loved this special. It was so much fun, all of it. You killed, T.J. Thank you so much for being so awesome. I laughed my ass off and got teary and, yeah, what a great gift you have to share with us all. .

@A Z I so badly want TJ to show up at your miserable job and tell you which lightbulb you should've changed. UA-cam is the only route left to take for real comedy unless you're huge, like Louie, and sell your specials on your own site. Netflix is absolutely garbage nowadays, but if garbage is what you like, then have at it. I'd recommend you watch Shane Gillis' special on UA-cam, but you probably wouldn't like it; it's funny.
