Wow. To a beginner/intermediate it seemed beyond reach. I slowed down the YT vid to 0.75% and wrote out the chords, fingering and frets as he called them out-on paper. Then I can drill down with repeated practice from my paper. Kudos for the excellent camera quality and detailing the notes. Marty just says this all live, without a fluff or stutter. Without edits. I am in the presence of Genius. Well worth the time to bring this number up to speed -thank you Marty
@@jonathan9100 Instead of someone telling you the chords which will help you play the song, why don't you learn how to listen in a way where you can figure it out for any song? Here's some tips that help me. When you're first developing your ear and are identifying chords, start with simple songs that only have major/minor chords, and really get good at identifying the tones. Once you get good at that, keep trying to learn songs with more and more chords in them. Another thing is to learn as many chords and inversions of them as possible so when you see someone playing a chord you can try chords in your repertoire that are on the fret they're playing on, until you have isolated the shape. If it's a complicated shape with a lot of chord tones in them like an 11 or 13 chord, try pausing the video and looking where their fingers are and putting your fingers wherever you think theirs are. The order I use to figure out the notes in a chord is firstly the root of the chord, and second the note that is the loudest or most easily heard. If you know any theory you can see what note it is and from there fill in the blanks to figure it out. After a while you can figure out what chords are and things will fall into place. Eventually you develop relative pitch after a while of doing this, and after years of practice, absolute pitch (if you practice that specifically)

Perfect timing, I am a working musician/artist and needed to learn this tune for this Saturdays gig. You've been the man since I've started playing way back in 2006 .. appreciate you Marty, thanks for all of the great tutorials man. 🙌🏽
I love that Marty is playing his own signature Epiphone hollow body in a ton of his vids, showing the versatility of the guitar. I'm trying to convince my wife to get me one of those for Xmas...
I hear this song every year on Christmas and is one of the most iconic Christmas carols of all time and the cords and progression of this song seem like they are more of the 60s and 70s and when I look at how old this song is it’s crazy how this song came out in 1957 and it is still the head of the times
I got a christmas party I have to perform at, this year and I've been watching these videos over and over again! thanks so much marty for helping me along my guitar journey
I just have to say thank you to Marty on this one. I started searching for lessons about a week ago for jingle bell rock due to the holidays coming up and myself being a newer player I felt like this one is a “must have “ in the skill set. Shortly after my main man Marty posts and my lesson prayers are answered lol. Thanks Marty!! I’d like to add, his blues lessons help you develop what you need to play AND understand the chords in this song which makes it even more fun.
I’m really trying to learn this song. I wish you could have a chord chart or at least the chord names written out so I can look them up because I can’t understand everything that you’re saying because my hearing isn’t that good. I am a subscriber and I have signed up for your classes and have been trying to get spun up for the last few months. I am thankful for you.
Really nice rendition and lesson. I'm old enough to remember listening to this on my older sister's transistor (radio) And they've been playing it ever since. Thanks so much for showing us how to play it.
Great lesson Marty. Put a lovely early Christmas smile 😃 on my face. Untill my wife said if you keep re-winding bits of that Jingle bells song anymore, that I was enthusiasticly trying to learn. She would put that guitar over my head, then I'd be hearing real bells. I was just trying to get in the Christmas spirit with you😅 An early seasons greetings to all and good will to all husband's 😁🌲☃️🌲
Visited this song so many times before. Doing only a double stop with the hammer on the 3rd to exit the intro has been my missing piece. Other versions using a full chord at the end of the intro has never been smooth for me. The hammer on sounds so sweet as a bonus. Thanks!
As freshly relocated in the US, I made a deal with my youngest daughter (beginner in English) : I will learn that one and she will learn the song! Thanks, Family time !
Thanks. I'm a relative beginner so it took me a while to decipher this and write down the chords. But it turns out to be a great way to work on my bar chords and have fun at the same time. I learned some chords that were new to me. Also I had the insight that the Dmajor6 chord sounded minor to me, and with the help of Google and some thought, I figured out why. Same notes as Bminor/D.
Marty. .... you're a genius in guitar and you've been helping me learn for a long time now and are a reason I want to continue to play . Thanks for keeping it fun and entertaining. not just a boring lesson. keep it up Happy Holidays. God bless you.
I should have looked this up a few weeks ago to learn in time for Christmas. Instead, I kind of looked at it a couple days before and got busy...until NOW! Classic progressions with a lot of chords I know. The movements make sense -- it's just coordinating my fingers with my ears that already know how it sounds/where to go. A little more work on this over the next few days and I could have it ready to play on NYE if I wanted. Ha! I'll definitely keep working at it so I can play it for friends next Christmas season. :) Thanks so much, Marty!
I have learned how to play this to a point where I can practice it to clean it up a lil but I jus wanted to say you’ve taught me everything I know and I have gotten compliments on my playing and I owe it all to you bless you Marty Schwartz!!!! P.s. you’re in my top 3 goat guitarist ijs you have been MY inspiration and I’ll never forget you! Again thank you!!!!
Love the jazzy chords used in this! For anyone having trouble with that Dmaj6 stretch in the opening (I did; at 51 my joints lack bandwidth so to speak), try playing a Bm7 at position 3. Notes needed are D / F# / A / B
Thanks for watching and supporting! 🔥 I also have FREE courses at my site: www.MartyMusic.com
ME TOO hopefully. ALWAYS WANTED TO SWING IT
Based off how long it takes me to learn something I will be playing this around the Christmas tree some time in 2024.
One year and 2 months to go, how's your progress?
