Always a pleasure seeing something being done the right way and with attention to details. Actually fixing and restoring used and worn items is truly an art that in great extent have been lost in our "modern" society. In times of hardship that loss of skillsets might cost us dearly.
Received my order today of an aeropress and coffee. Just wanted to say thank you and for anyone that sees this, I HIGHLY recommend you visit Yankees website. All I can say is WOW, nothing is fresher then roasting ripe fresh green coffee beans yourself and making your coffee that morning EXACTLY how you want it. THANK YOU Yankee sir, really liking my new toy too ( Aeropress ) when I show some friends I can see them adding it to all their hunting packs and it becoming an Alaska standard.
Thanks for the video; pace, cadence and clarity of info; picking up supplies later today - working with a buddy on getting my dad's bike back on the road in time for memorial day - to honor him and other vets - thanks again!
Watching this gave me the confidence I need to start working on my CB1100F gas tank, thanks! also TW200s are great. Rode one to and from college almost every day rain or shine!
Thank you. I really appreciate that you took the time to share. Gonna start a rehab on an old 4 wheeler very soon for my boys. This vid will be a huge help. Thanks and take care.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s nothing like the peace of mind you get from doing a job right the first time. Very nice work, well done 👌
Nice job! I really like your use of vinegar. I prefer it myself. Gentler, lower cost, no special protective equipment needed and no highly toxic chemicals to dispose of afterwards.
Great video! I have an old Ducati 2-stroke that sat up for 35 years and was full of rust and gunk from the oil. I used acetone with BB's as first to get the gunk out, then used the vinegar and the BBs. It cleaned it spotless! Took a week and some exercise, but man did it work! Also bought some redkote and hope to seal it this week. Thanks
thanks for a great video: I really like the practical use of the vinegar and the idea of patience linked to thrift AND a more environmentally safe process with a personal protection advantage too. White Vinegar has so many uses! We are about to begin the restoration of a 63 rambler 2 door wagon on our channel. We will be stealing your process for the tank work and will offer you credit when we post the video! Thanks again from all of us at oldschoolcars!
Wow that looks so clean inside... Thanks I need to redo my wife's tank its very rusty inside. I would have done something similar but waiting a week and using BB's and vinegar is a great idea and help. Wish me luck think I will do this next week for her while she is on a business trip.
I did the same thing with my Honda 750 shadow. Kinda tricky to get all the bbs out because of the tanks baffles. Thank you for the video, saved me like 600 bucks
I actually tried this today not knowing you posted this. No auto parts stores around here have the liner, so I'm out of luck there for a bit. Cleaned out my tank with vinegar, got some nasty shit out of there and the petcock, but needs the bb treatment to get rid of the rust inside it. Then hopefully my carburetors won't get plugged off haha
I had tried running filters on my bike, but because of the goofy positioning they needed to have, neither carburetor was getting the gas it needed, and the filters just ended up sticking out too much and interfering with other things like the petcock switch or the throttle cable. I took them off, and put new line on, gets proper flow again.
HedgehogOutdoors I ordered a 90 degree fuel filter on Ebay. The Tw200 has a very tight space between the carb and tank, but a 90 degree fits perfectly with just a couple snips of fuel line. You can get the RED KOTE tank treatment on ebay as well.
@@camper440 Yes. The petcock hole is used to drain out the leftover sealer and you just tape over the hole during the process. Only the inside of the tank needs sealer because rust.
Very cool - I have wondered about sealing tanks but never saw a product on the shelf to do it, will have to look harder now, i've had trouble with water in fuel messing with tanks before.
Excellent video, I am going to do my three wheeler tank like that but I am thinking about strapping it down to my home made paint shaker and turn it on a few times until I think it is clean.
Thanks, I really enjoyed the concise step by step, from first to last. Where did you get the paint you used in the tank? I've never seen it before. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing.

That is why I do primarily projects and events that others can't or would not even attempt. I don't want to be confused with or mixed in with the gun crowd.

I know my comment is a gew years after this video but what about flash rust when you dry out the tank. Is it a problem or do you just seal over top of it???
He mentioned coating inside the tank in WD40 after the neutralizing rinse so that it prevents flash rust. This is only necessary if you're not coating the tank immediately. If you plan to coat is immediately after the acid and rinse, just make sure you dry it completely and you can coat. If you won't, then use WD40 or some kind of diesel fuel or oil to coat the bare metal and protect it for a few days.
Red Kote claims it will seal over rust no problem but just make sure to get all the loose rust out and do all the proper cleaning/degreasing etc as instructed in this video.
Video nicely done. Now what if I want to clean and coat the inside of my tank but don’t want to do any harm to my custom paint job? Obviously I’ll dry without acetone and if done carefully is it possible to Red Kote and not get any on outside of tank? Maybe you have some recommendations on how to do something similar and safe to a finished tank.. Thanks for the informative video.

Hello, WOW....watching this vid all the way from India! Just quickly rinse with baking soda, maybe a few minutes and the wash out. Either fill the tank with gas right away or coat with WD40. WD40 will keep it from rusting until you are ready to fill the tank with gas or coat it.
Did you have to do anything to the gas cap? as far as the inside of it? Because mine has a bit of rust on it as well. Thanks for the vid i'm in the process of doing this with my TW.
John Narvaiz I sprayed it thoroughly with a good penetrating oil and soaked it for a week in a plastic bag. After a week, I lightly used a wire brush on the metal parts and blew it out good with compressed air. I finished it with a light coat of penetrating oil and it has worked like new since with no rust.

mauldindoc123 he will probably answer but I will too.... when you shake the gas tank every now and then the bb's bounce around like a sand blasting media physically knocking the rust particles off the metal of the tank
Fuck. I don't have running water. Let alone hot water. I've heard you can just use diesel. Dump half a liter in. Swish it around a ton. Leave it in a bit. And the rust should come off from inside. My tank has WAYYYYY more rust inside than yours. Nothing but thick crust brown rust.
Hands down best video on UA-cam for tank restoration. Very quick but informative. Thanks so much \m/
