    Not to pour cold water on the one positive point you pulled from Jay-Z's response but he likely called for a criminal case knowing that one is unlikely to be brought because of the nature of the allegations and how long ago the incident was.
    He likely also knows that the bar for what constitutes civil liability is much lower than what a prosecutor would need to prove in a criminal trial. He's likely to look extremely bad in the process of a civil trial and while he may or may not be innocent (probably not), the likelihood that the trial will uncover other fucked up things about him is high.
    Calling for a criminal trial makes him look more innocent in the public eye while providing no real additional threat to him.

    Completely tone deaf response to the allegations, "We and people like me, where I'm from don't do that stuff", is as bad as the Drake denials (and the Not Like Us Kendrick partitioning). Abuses of power and the infliction of suffering happens to all types of people from all walks of life, eveywhere and is committed by the same. This just stigmatises victims of abuse.These celebrities live on a different plane.

    Everything HOV says as it relates to how heinous it is to do this to a minor (and how those persons should be tossed in jail) stands in stark contrast to how silent he’s been since Diddy was arrested. If that’s really the logic he wants to run with then I can’t wait to see how he tries to explain himself out of *never* knowing Diddy ever did anything untoward with minors ever. So Jay, if you didn’t participate but you knew? Shouldn’t you be tossed in jail for being a silent accomplice for decades? You’re right, Mike. His statement has way too many words

He has no identity beyond his mafioso, hyper-capitalist persona. That and I don't see anything he represents as particularly revolutionary - a rapper that brags about his wealth, power and perception of his manhood and only later in his career tells people to get an LLC because he needs to speak truth to the youth.
    He views many of the vices, problematic behaviors and symbols of power that he has been around his whole life as part of pushing that image of himself as a kingpin and hyper-capitalist, including many of the behaviors of his partners in business. I'm not going to jump the gun and say he did anything, but let's say I wouldn't be surprised.

No other comment mentions this, but if the allegations against Jay are true, then the statute of limitations against him in New York ran out in 2010. Meaning the reason why there was no criminal case was possibly because they tried and failed.
    They would only still be in play if the assault happened after 2019. If I can figure that out in a few seconds of web searching, ain't no way a billionaire's lawyers would let Jay make himself look how he looks asking about a criminal case.

    I get the point about criminal charges, but for the plaintiff the burden of proof is way higher for a criminal case than a civil one, which is difficult for historic cases where there's no viable DNA, presumably no footage of the event, etc.
    So she's left with 2 choices (technically 3 if you include silence, which many women do), either lose a lot of money on a criminal case she as someone who isn't a billionaire probably (almost definitely) can't win. Or she can take the civil route where she could maybe wring at least a little good out of an awful situation and get her bag, and expose the predators in the process. So I totally get it

    I don't know much about American law, but surely there's a higher bar for conviction in a criminal case? If her lawyers thought that the case had a better chance of achieving some form of justice in a in civil court, that to me is a good enough reason to pursue this avenue, especially considering the allegations are of events that occured 24 years ago. As I understand it, lawyers telling you not to make any objective statements like "I've never met her" is standard practice however, so I don't think that that is compelling in speculating about Jay-Z's guilt. That being said, I personally find certain parts of his statement kinda gross, and think that her account is credible. I hope she finds a resolution that vindicates her and helps her find peace

Why did they never speak up? Are they guilty too? Apply your logic all the way through, don’t just stop with the celebrities you don’t like.

Since the internet is now being used simultaneously against us because we can write and say whatever we want, i want to say: it is time for black and brown unity. I invoke all conscious human beings in possession of a bodily organ with any hue of blackness or brownness or any combination therein to recognize and unite behind the power of one human consciousnes of one humane home, and that home is the physical and spiritual continent of Afrika.

      Between Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album, he was a top 10 New York GOAT lyrically. That can never be taken away. Especially his first four albums were some of the best East Coast drug dealing raps ever recorded. He is a Machiavellian sociopath by his own tacit admission in his raps, so he prolly did a lot of horrible shit we will learn about in upcoming days. But you can't take his achievements from him, and I say this as somebody who always hated what he stands for.

IF he is guilty going to criminal court he has too much money and time for this laywer to win. what this will do will alert certian 3 letter agencies to look into JZ and push to criminal. obviously there is no way to respond to allegations of this level, but such a tone deaf and minipulative responce is not a good look. time will tell.

      @jamiemartin9322 Місяць тому +6

      It's definitely a possibility, but it's worth bearing in mind that as a man you are more likely to be SA'd yourself than to be falsely accused of SA
      It takes a lot to speak out about your assault, particularly against men as powerful and connected as these, it's not an easy decision, so I'd be more inclined to believe her, but either way the courts will bear it out

    • @glimmer_twin
      @glimmer_twin Місяць тому +1

      It’s estimated by the feds that perhaps 8% of claims of SA are “unfounded”. However only 35% of such crimes are ever reported/prosecuted. Which means the balance of probabilities is always on the side of the accuser. By far.

    Jay saying that they should press criminal charges is a really good statement and seems like a gotcha on it’s face ..but there’s a lot of holes in it. In a criminal court the burden of proof is much much higher. Beyond a reasonable doubt.. no pun intended .in s.a. Cases and especially in a case that’s as old as this is ,that’s almost an impossible task and jays lawyers know that. Basically all a prosecutor would have is witness testimony. The probability of a thirteen year old back then would have the wherewithal and fortitude to go get a rape kit is very low.. etc etc. I do like that he’s not settling but the jury is out. I hope it’s cap but hope don’t mean a goddamn thing
