Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in Independence, Kentucky, I like them, they're awesome, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day and night.
There is another one just a few miles away that is slightly longer. I went to the other trestle when another train was coming but there was nowhere to park. One time I was filming the other bridge and sitting in a gravel lane. A car came when the train was half way past me and I had to move. I want to film one from the longer bridge but I will have to walk about a half mile.
Jaw Tooth, Hey it's Shawn in NC, the guy who discussed the RR crossing law requirements. I saw this video and you liked the bridge on Kentucky. Well, I have a location for you with a much bigger bridge. I finished my career in this county and I found this layout really cool. It's a CSX track and Amtrak and has about 100 trains a day on it. It's a single track going through the town of Weldon, but on the North and South ends, it splits to allow trains to pass. It's a very busy bridge. The bridge (heading north) into Weldon and as it nears downtown, the track is a bridge. It is raised and goes right through the business district of Weldon, it then crosses the Roanoke River and goes into Northampton County. The rail is elevated a total of about 3 miles until reaching level ground in Northampton County. Many railroads have used the track over the years. In fact at one point, this railroad was the longest in the world, when it was the Wilmington and Weldon RR. There is also a lower track that runs ground level through downtown and into Roanoke Rapids. This was part of a sister railroad that still services Roanoke Rapids. The RR used to be a logging rail and farm rail and went as far as Norlina, but was abandoned in the 70s. The lower rails are used a couple times a day switching out cars that bring supplies into Roanoke Rapids and they eventually end up on the raised line. The upper line is a big part of the New York to Miami route and Amtrak is on the rail probably 20x a day as well. I have attached a link for you to research and maybe decide to film there someday. It's definitely a unique set-up. Enjoy www.historicweldonnc.com/about-weldon-nc/the-first-railroad-hub-of-the-south-weldon-nc.html
That was cool watching that train going over that bridge! Great shot! I'll save this video on my train list. That sucks waiting on traffic and i appreciate your sacrifice. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
Well, your Super Thanks support helps make it not so bad. Traffic is really bad around Cincinnati since they had that fire under I-471. That shut all the southbound lanes down on a busy Interstate and closed one of the northbound lanes. People are using other routes such as I-275 mainly and it really shows. 70K people a day used that bridge. Anyway, thanks again Mark for your support!
Thank you, Jawtooth for today’s excellent awesome railfan videos. Great videography and accompanying entertaining commentary. Great way to spend a relaxing 😎 afternoon.
Nice high rail action on the tretsl and nice park at the dam watch urself in those back woods areas u don't walk up on someone's growing operation 😅 👍 😊
That has actually happened to me. I came across some plants by the tracks a few years ago that were in 5 gallon buckets. When I worked for the county I came across that several times over the 20 years that I was there
True story! I almost got 3 on that day but I couldn't find a place to park my truck for the third one. the train was coming and I would have to have walked a half mile or so or blocked a driveway. I will get that third bridge soon somehow
Very interesting video, rail bridge impressive, looks good to have a walk around the lake. Also interesting mentioning about State law regarding the radio.
I’ll tell you what JT thought that first southbound train that was going across the big bridge was gonna stall out at one time that must be a really long grade that they’re pulling but anyway both of those bridges was nice because they was both curved bridges that was pretty awesome But anyway, my friend another awesome video and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one

Is this the CSX LCL Line that you usually view in Walton, Kentucky, and LaGrange, Kentucky, Jaw Tooth? If this is the LCL Line closer to Cincinnati, Ohio, I am glad to see that you decided to capture CSX trains closer to Cincinnati on this line. I have wondered what the CSX LCL Line looked like closer to Cincinnati. I enjoyed watching the trains crossing the large, curved bridge near Independence, Kentucky. and that shorter bridge. The gates that are used to prevent cars from going into that bowl under the shorter bridge when rainwater and creek water fills the bowl is not unique to this location.. The Village of Matteson, Illinois uses gates to prevent cars on Governors Highway from going under the Canadian National's railroad bridge (former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad bridge) which goes over Governor's Highway when rainwater is too deep for cars to pass through the water. (Posted on 20 November 2024 at 2025 CST.)
Yes, this is the same line. This is north of Walton. There is another road near Cincinnati that uses railroad crossing gates to close the road when it floods. I might have shown it years back I think. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting Thomas!
