My grandma made these all the time. We loved them. I also remember her putting the cookies in a container or even a ziploc bag with a piece or two of bread to keep them from going stale.

It would take some muscles to stir, that's for sure! A smaller batch might make it easier, but they are so good we go for the huge batch every time.
