Definitely one of my favorite albums... If for nothing else, the track Jazz and the poem "they say the world is round..." definitely 2 pieces that are un forgetable... honestly over the years... I have owned this cd 5 times and as time goes on I return to it like K-os's Exit or Jill Scott Beautifully human... All that to say thank you..

Mental was your best album, followed by Factors of the Seven. Chill, fun, creative, flowy vibes.

As a young Christian hip hop fan growing up on the East Coast there wasn't really any authentic hip hop music coming out of the Christian music world. so when I listened to Mental Releases I was blown away! Here was a Christian hip hop group who made real hip hop music complete with samples from current rappers I listened to! I thought... finally here's some good positive hip hop that I can bump along with Biggie, Beastie Boys, Wu Tang Clan etc and not be embarrassed about. Thank you for your lyrical prowess on the mic and head snapping beats since Day 1! Mental was the start and when y'all released Factors it was a wrap...certified greatest hip hop group for me! I caught u guys in Allentown Pa w T Bone at a small church show and u rocked the mic for our small group then I saw u when u played at Creation and rocked it in front of thousands! Thank you for your artistry and passion and I hope Grits never stops making music!

What you (I am sure) are unaware of. Is that in the 1995/1996 school year I was trying to promote a concert at my high school with your booking agent at the time. The concert was to be held at Forrest, with Dewayne opening for you guys. Your booking agent sent me the promotional packet and all. I made the deposit and all. T-Bone might have also been included, he agreed to come for a very discounted fee.
Then, once I started submitting lyrics and such to the powers that be, at first many school officials were excited. Then a PTA meeting was held about it. That is when the first objections arose. I pushed and pushed and pushed. Then a few parents along with an atheist club at the school started a petition to keep the concert from happening.
At first the concert was going to be in the gym and free to attend and voluntary. Then all of a sudden a previously away basketball game became a home game. So I was told the concert would be in the auditorium. Then I was told I could not bring in the rented sound equipment into the auditorium. I had rented an AMAZING sound and light company to come in as the school's sound was horrid. So, I lost that deposit.
Then, I was told the concert could not be held DURING school hours, even though the concert was to be during the 2 hour lunch time of the school. So then, I got everything in line for the concert after school on a Friday in the parking lot as I was told that I could not use ANY STRUCTURE for the concert. Therefore, the parking lot was not a "structure". SO I then re-booked the sound and lighting company but had to give another deposit because the time of day and the date changed.
Everything looked as if it was going great. Unknown to me though, the school board (at the behest of the objectors) had voted on a resolution that would prohibit the concert on any and all school grounds. So once again I lost the deposit with the sound company, and my grades took a hit from all the energy and time that I was relegating to promoting the concert so I just simply decided to back away.
Eventually, I worked with Tony (owner of Murray Hill Theater) and your booking agent to bring you guys to Murray Hill and your booking agent counted my deposit with you guys toward Murray Hill's booking. So EVENTUALLY I got my concert and I promoted the heck out of it at my school.
So that is my story surrounding the era of Mental Releases, I was only 17 years old. WOW, I am old.

In the song "Ambitions", Bonafide (Teron Carter) begins the verse, "You wanna know the truth, I'll tell it, they ain't worried about your soul they want the artist to sell it they want you spending your relish." Was there any animosity with Gotee Records towards the end there or am I reading too much into something here?
