I love this lens. I have the non-goggled version. Beautiful, natural colors straight out of the files. The contrast is a little on the lower side, but this gives the images a vintage look. The tones in BW images look great. Won't part with it. Thanks for talking about it.
Appreciate you sharing your experiences! I've tried it on my M9 and can attest to what you say about the color files. This lens has that secret sauce to the vintage look that I love. Thanks again for your comments!
Fun video, nothing wrong with a f2.8! Speed is sometimes overrated. Love seeing a goggled lens in use. I do find the infinity lock frustrating at times especially when focusing at near infinity objects, like you say, maybe I should just use it more...
Thanks Rick! And hey if you got one, yes use it more often, rediscover it. And absolutely right, nothing wrong with f/2.8! I used to think 35mm f/2.8 lenses were "boring" but not this one 😂 Appreciate your comments thanks!
Another enjoyable educational video, I really look forward to these appearing on my notifications. Although you’ve made me add another lens to my wants list. 😂
Summaron is a vintage lens from the time of film photography. I have two of them, one with the goggles for M3 and the other one that fits my M2, M6 and M TYP240.Due to its small size and light weight, it is an absolute joy to leave on the camera all day. It is nowhere as sharp or as well corrected as a Summicron in larger apertures, but stopped down it is blisteringly sharp. It has lower contrast than a Summicron, so it will tame the manmade and unnaturally high contrast of a digital sensor. The coatings are soft, so don't go using your T-shirt for cleaning. Enjoy the lens.
Another overlooked lens, Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 Rigid, that sits on my Leica MD 262 amazes me. Not only makes the MD 262 shoot like a film camera it renders like a film camera, (almost)...!
@@superkrell Great choice! I have the Dual Range 50mm Summicron which, if I'm not mistaken, has the same optics but different housing. There's a beautiful rendering to this lens! I've not used the MD 262 but I think I would wholeheartedly agree with your assessment on its film-like output with the Summicron. I would like to add one to my camera bag, if only the prices would come down! 😂 I appreciate your input, sharing your experiences, and I'm happy to hear of the results you get using this combo! Thank you! 🙏🙏👍
@@superkrell I think you're right! Everyone is different but so far I haven't used the close focus capability as much. Perhaps it's because most rangefinder lenses don't focus close anyway so it's engrained in my head but it is a nice capability to have! Enjoy your lens, you have a killer setup!!
@@jeremykeller211 Sounds almost like a troll question but in this case it's easy...as seen in the video when you have two legendary lenses, the 35mm f/2.8 Summaron and the 35mm f/2 Summicron people will usually gravitate towards the faster lens
@@cameralegend1033 I acquired the 8 element Summicron 40 years ago, not because it's faster than the Summaron wide open, but because it has higher resolving power at ca. f4. Granted, however, from f5.6 onward, I expect there's not much to choose from. They are both exquisite lenses.
@@jeremykeller211 That's awesome! I've always been curious about the eight element Summicron. I had the V4 Summicron many years ago, great lens but I sold it since I have the 40mm f/2 Summicron-C and the 50mm Summicron-M. I thought it was redundant. However, I recently picked up the Light Lens Lab 35mm f2 Eight Element and it's spectacular! It's supposed to be a close clone of the Leica and it got me curious for the real thing but they are very expensive in good condition and the ones not in good condition usually have issues like haze or separation. One reason I made this video is because I myself always overlooked the Summaron. I always thought of 35mm f/2.8 lenses as "boring" but I got the Summaron at $500 which is a great price, well below the going rate. The lens amazed me but I would have never bought one if it were not for the low price because my mindset was Summicron f/2 or nothing else. Now I understand why the Summaron has such a cult following, especially on the Leica forums. I might not be getting the eight element Summicron any time soon but I appreciate your insights! It's a lens I may still pick up some day. Thanks!
Finally a new video about this great lens. I love mine 🤓
Glad to hear it! I was honestly surprised at the very few videos I saw on this lens! 😲📸👍
@@cameralegend1033 I just tried my copy on a Leica SL2 and wooooooooooow it really made me take this lens more seriously 🔥
Great video and great photos. The M Monochrom really gives a fantastic look to the photos. I loved using mine in NYC last year
Thanks Paul! I think there's a special kinship between us M Monochrom users and I appreciate your comments and insights 😍📸👍

@@cameralegend1033 Thanks. I used it initially on the M9 as well. Some photos I've made with it are etched in memory. :)
Woah! Loves this episode!
Thanks for watching and leaving some kind words! Best to you and your beautiful fam 😍🙏👍
Very sharp images... beautiful monochrome...thank you 🙏🏽

It really is! In a Leica sense you're right! 😂

Yes, same optics but can focus closer than the Rigid...!

You probably won’t need the Rigid since you already own the DR…!

PS Dayyamn!
Thanks Number Six! You have sharp eyes! 😍📸👍
Just picked up the m2 version, hopefully it’s the 1
If you get a clean copy you should get great results from it. Have fun, it's a great lens!
Legendary
Thanks as always! 🙏🙏👍
shout out to Madam Videographer
I'll send her your complements thanks! 😍🙏👍
Get the regular m mount version not the goggles one. You’ll like it better. Great video.

How can it be both overlooked and legendary at the same time?
