To me, there will always be top of the list John Wayne, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Jeff Chandler, Alan Ladd, Charlton Heston
There are some good stars today namely Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones etc. The issue is not good acting and star quality, those attributes still exist in abundance. The issue is that the star system in Hollywood has completely changed. Instead of being focused on stars it is centred on other things. I am not too sure what that is, is it too simple to say money?
25/25 Nice little quiz no problem with these legends, was waiting for Jimmy Cagney, RobertTaylor, Henry Fonda popping up but there are many great actors and actresses from the golden age of Hollywood.
I'm an aspiring film connoisseur with a passion for the classics, as anyone who's seen my channel knows. I got 20/25, missed some of the ladies. Thank you for including my beloved Ronald Colman on this list, and also Basil Rathbone, who was my first favorite classic actor.
I saw Ronald Colman for the first time in a film a few weeks ago on Talking Pictures channel. I was absolutely amazed, I didn't know he was such a distinguished looking man, and such a good actor. It was a film about Boston, a family who were very influential in Boston society. It was an eye-opener to me.
@@marilynkennedy8236 Yes, Ronald Colman is phenomenal! I'm so glad you're discovering his work. Sounds like the movie you saw was "The Late George Apley". That was a good one. I plan on doing a tribute to Ronald Colman for my channel soon.
It was "The Late George Apley" I have just looked it up l am certainly going to look out for any more Ronald Colman films. There is nothing like discovering new stars (or in this case old stars).
@@marilynkennedy8236 Yes, for sure! I recommend "A Tale of Two Cities" (1935), "Random Harvest" (1942), and "The Prisoner of Zenda" (1937) as his three best films.
@@oldhatcinema Thank you. It would certainly be good to watch those, not only for Ronald Colman but to see the original versions of them (if they were the original versions). Wasn't Stewart Granger in a remake of "The Prisoner of Zenda" ? And was Ronald Reagan in "Random Harvest". ?
Didn't get Ronald Coleman, and you threw me for a second with Errol Flynn in a regular suit, don't recall ever seeing him like that, but I have myself bonus points for Archibald Leach (Cary Grant) William Henry Pratt (Boris Karloff) and Marion Morrison (John Wayne) wonder how many youngsters are missing out on brilliant movies because they are in black and white?!
Baaahhh!!! as the dark destroyer would say on the chase "a bad day at the office" "only 15/25 and two of them were a lucky guess, still better luck on the next quiz. Keep em coming matey. There great brain exercises.
I missed Errol Flynn and Boris Karloff. I was glad to see my fellow Montanan, Gary Cooper, in there. His parents were both English. His father was an attorney (his partner was also English) and ended up on the Montana Supreme Court. His mother was his law partner's sister, who had come to visit her brother. Gary Cooper was one of my favorite actors.
I also struggled with Basil Rathbone (known for his role as Sherlock Holmes), Charlie Chaplin and Ronald Colman, because I didn't expect them. The rest was easy.
Got them all right well I am 85 years young ha ha, when my children have quizzes they always take me along just for the films and music I haven't let them down yet 🤣🤣
@@stuviewtv Thank you. I mainly watch old movies. Stuff earlier than 1970. The "newest" ones on my "good picture" list are "Capricorn One" (1978), Enchanted April (1991), "Witness" (1985), and "Sling Blade" (1996).
Just found out a few weeks ago that Ronald Colman was a very handsome distinguished looking man. I had seen many photos of him but none of his films until recently.
I missed one Ronald Colman i dont know about him but looked him up after this. Still not fimiliar with his movies, never seen his acting. So my homework is to see a movie with him.
@@julienielsen3746 You may like "Random Harvest" with Greer Garson and Ronald Coleman. I first saw him in "A Tale of Two Cities" and he stood out. that seemed the perfect part for him.
23/25 I missed Monroe (she didn’t look like the one I know) and Rathbone … Thank you for this quiz and specially for including the hero of Shangri-la ! Greetings from France 🇫🇷
Same with my mum. She used to take me to the cinema 3 times a week. Her favourite film star was Tyrone Power, I don't have just one favourite, there are too many good ones. Of the old ones I loved James Cagney, James Stewart, Bette Davis and Barbara Stanwyck.
20 out of 25. Did not look like Marilyn Monroe, I knew who it was but I couldn't remember Vivien Leighs name. Genuinely thrown by Ronald Coleman and Basil Rath one, who I've seen in countless films. But I'm not a great film fan, so not bad. And these were real stars! I wouldn't recognise Reese Witherspoon if she passed me in the street !
As a member of TCM “Turner Classic Movies Backlot” (It’s a Fan Club) l would have been totally embarrassed if l got even one of those wrong! I will say, if you showed me 25 photos of what passes for a “Star” nowadays... I probably would only get maybe 10 of them correct. Entirely too easy for me. Sorry. 🤷🏻♀️
24/25 when I stupidly called Boris Karloff Lon Cheney!! I knew it was Boris but I called out the wrong one - my excuse is they were from the same genre and era.
missed a few I thought Ronald Coleman was Don Ameche and young Gene Kelley Looked a bit like Jack Lemon. BTW I love that photo of Marilyn Monroe. She looks so fresh and pretty and happy and those shapely hips - oh my
Yes. I thought he was Don Ameche also. I thought Marilyn Monroe looked like Rita Hayworth. So I missed that one. I also missed Greta Garbo. I don't think I've ever seen her in a movie .
To me, there will always be top of the list John Wayne, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Jeff Chandler, Alan Ladd, Charlton Heston
All your old quizzes are now popping up for me! Good fun. Got all of them bar five.
That's great to hear! Many thanks. Nice score too!
Not one of today's stars can even compare to the greatest of all time.
Got them all. Too easy. Thanks so much for including Boris Karloff, Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone
Great score!
@@stuviewtv great quiz. Make it harder
Lies again? Teddy Bear AMWF Car
100%…..easy for old movie buffs.
Got em all, but wondered if any of the modern day "stars" can hold a candle to any of these?
Nope 😂
Absolutely not. There will never be another Golden Era.
I doubt it.
I think perhaps Hugh Jackman

They are all unique and no one can compare. Got all of them!
I got 2 correct!
The first one and the last one.
Need to study up on classic Hollywood
I got them all right. I was brought up on Old Hollywood, my mother used to take me to the cinema 3 times a week.
Fantastic. Great score!
25/25 Nice little quiz no problem with these legends, was waiting for Jimmy Cagney, RobertTaylor, Henry Fonda popping up but there are many great actors and actresses from the golden age of Hollywood.
I sped up the video to 2x speed and still got 100 percent.

Full House - but I am 78 and have been a movie geek for 75 years!

Beat me by one. I messed up Vivian Leigh.
Colman.
I missed Rita Hayworth, Ron Coleman, and Errol Flyn but only because I said the names a hair over the 10 second mark.
I got them all....except Boris Karloff.

I could name them all in 1-5 seconds.
I got Basil Rathbbone wrong
So close to a full house!
Very easy, except Coleman and Rathbone, but I had 25/25.
I confused Coleman with Don Ameche, the moustache's fault Errol was another.
Being a TCM fan for over 20 years these were easy.
16/25, must try harder!
I named 19 , but I knew all their faces lol 😂 June 21,2021.
I always confuse Lauren Bacall and Kathy Hepburn each other.
Tough I only managed 14/25
24/25 when I stupidly called Boris Karloff Lon Cheney!!
I knew it was Boris but I called out the wrong one - my excuse is they were from the same genre and era.

I only missed one out of twenty-five!
