You can change the aperture ring by the usual custom settings. You can also change it to being exposure compensation. The exact setting depends on the body you are using.
Ya, it seems quite customizable when paired with the Z9. If I end up buying it I’ll have try a few things out and see which works best with my style of shooting. Thanks for the comment and info!
@@jasonhalaykophotography I've had mine for about a week and a half and have been in love with it since the first day. Superb lens that's as satisfying as the Z 9 itself.
Great! I’m slowly falling in love with it! I rarely use the 105 1.4 these days and am thinking the 85/1.2 would be a better lens for what I do. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video!!!
@@lour7753 I haven’t tested them against each other just yet. I think the bokeh will be on a similar level, but I feel the AF in the new 85 will be faster. Other than that it comes down to focal length preference. And also not needing to use the adapter would be nice when using the Z 85.
Man I love my 85mm 1.8Z on the Z9, BUT I would extra love the 1.2. I’m sure I will justify buying it in the future, hopefully sooner than later. Great video and I can’t wait to see what you capture with it (also the 1.8 vs 1.2 comparison)
No doubt a fantastic lense, but won’t be replacing my 105 1.4… having both os overkill for me.. The way the 105 1.4 renders it’s unmatched in my opinion… Instead I will be buying the 70-200 2.8s…
Ya, the 105 1.4 is amazing, but I don't find myself reaching for it much these days. Not sure why. Replacing my F 70-200 with the Z one would be a good option as well for sure! Thanks for checking out the video!
@@jasonhalaykophotography you welcome bro... the 70-200 2.8 is on the way. I actually had it before but sold it to buy the 50mm 1.2, but I will have to buy it back, a tool for other types of work. the thing is, it never crosses my mind to sell the 105mm 1.4 ...love that lense and my 28mm 1.4 f
Thanks! I am in love with my f-mount 105 1.4, and if you don't have an 85mm lens already then I do think getting an 85mm lens is a great idea! If you are trying to decide between the two, I would say in my own work I grab the 85mm from my bag a lot more than the 105mm just because it is a much easier focal length to work with for me. Saying that, if the price of the 85mm 1.2 is difficult for you, the 85mm 1.8 is also an amazing lens in my opinion. Much smaller and lighter, and cheaper, with 95% of the same image quality as the 1.2. Just a little less bokeh, and the "bokeh balls" are not perfectly round. I do have a comparison video on my channel if you are interested. ua-cam.com/video/aFYOmHBSgsg/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
Custom controls/f2, "lens control ring" turn to "None"...
Perfect!! Thanks for checking out the video and for passing on some needed knowledge!
Custom setting menu f2 (scroll to control ring then press “ok” to change). Set it to "None"
Perfection!

@@borisgalos6967 Great to hear!!
I love this lens. The 105 1.4 was always my favorite lens but this lens is quickly taking its place and the working distance is slightly better.

How much better is the 85 over the 105? I’ve got the 105 with my Z9. I’m just trying to justify the cost of the 85

my 105/1.4 was my favorite lens but I think is going to replace it...
If I end up buying it, me too!
Nice review, thank you! 😎🙌🏾🙏🏾 Let's go #Nikon! 📸🔥
