  • Mixing and printing the first color for my new woodblock print. We are printing with oil pigments on Japanese Kozo papers. This is the first video for my "Today in the Studio" series.

Thanks so much for sharing your process! I was having trouble mixing my light base colors and this video has been immensely informative.

Do you create your own illustrations for the prints? Would love to know how you think about approaching the art to best work in wood block print form.

I do create my own illustrations for my block prints. I often work from my own photography, sketches, and even paintings that I make from life. I like to try new approached to the medium to continue to learn and grow as a printmaker/artist. Mostly, I try to simplify an image and focus on color, texture, and composition when designing a woodblock print. I will try to make some videos about the design process in the future. Thanks for your question.
