*IM MAKING A VICTORIAN* Frock Coat from an original pattern book - and this popped up in my feed, it actually answered the question what "pockets in the usual place" meant when none were visible on the pattern...
they are in the tails. THANK YOU!

As a mainer I hate when people that aren't civil war nerds say that the state of Maine wasnt important in the war

Awesome to see a coat that was at Gettysburg! An episode on each of the ID'd officers would be sweet.
    Great episode!

How many buttons are on the back ?
Are the linings all brown or faded?

There are four buttons on the back of all jackets. The linings are brown. No specific fading shows.

Could they have attached aiguillettes to those black buttons? The buttons seem to be perfectly space for an intricate pattern of aiguillettes that would've been appropriate for most army officers to wear in rare/ceremonial/funeral occasions in this and other armies of the time. I do thank ya'll for these very enlightening videos :)

Great information as always. One question, what was the usage of frocks by NCOs?

+Jason Lewis I wouldn't think of sack coat or frock coat as items of rank. NCOs being enlisted they would be issued the same as privates for the uniform clothing. This would then vary based on company, regiment, location, and time. They may even get both as a sack was for fatigue and frocks for dress. Officers likely had both for the same purpose that they purchased. Although all on campaign likely didn't carry both with them all the time.

I have watched this video numerous times. Were still interested and trying with many phone calls to find what the additional buttons on the Amos coat were about. Does it mean he was apart of the funeral procession or was issued these unique buttons for some other reason? Enjoy your work. Larry Metzgar
