Drew not understanding the reason for the Statue of Liberty's color change hurt me deeply
i share that pain
ok
same
I grinned and then He said that he thinks that the old colour looked better and THEN I realised he means it and then i slamend my Hand against my Forehead and cryed
I actually think he understood it.
4:08 That's because this color change happens to all copper statues. The metal itself is that coppery color, but eventually oxygen from the air reacts with it, forming a green layer of copper oxide on the surface.
I was about to say this, copper roofs always turn green as well
You studied...I played Minecraft
We're not the same
@@jeffodabear me too
Came here to say this too XD
no! they changed color because French is cringe
Drew always finds a way to have everyone in the comment section screaming at him for making a horrible mistake or missing something...
Edit: So I guess the imposter drew isn't perfect after all...
It's on purpose, it gets him views

No, Drew imposter is the screwup here.

Dear Drew,
The Statue of Liberty's colour was never changed by human intervention, the copper its made of turned to that colour due to natural reasons (like oxidisation or smt, idk)over time.
You've even reviewed some data about this in a video you put up about 2 months ago.
If you have read this through, please also take a bit of time to travel to Hungary next year!
I am sure you and your friens will enjoy it in Budapest. There are tons of things to do here!
I can't be bothered to write down the apology for speaking english so incorrectly, since that would take another paragraph.
So have a great morning, and if we don't meet again. Good day! Good afternoon! And Good night! Truman show reference. Also put out our flag🇭🇺
Good Morning, Good Night, or Good Afternoon viewers, depending on your time zone.
Not the hero we wanted but the hero we needed
MAGYARORSZAG
3:47 the reason that the Statue of Liberty is green is because the statue is made of copper, which over time when exposed to oxygen it oxidizes, turning it to the greenish blue color that it is. In other words it’s rusting but with copper
And yes, i definitely learned that from Minecraft
Well, Minecraft taught you the right thing. I learnt that from my dad. He works at IT. Copper pass current through (in fact, it has very little resistance and is cheap, which is why copper wires are made). Oxidized layer of copper doesn't pass any current. This is one of the reasons the copper wires are insulated. The other being the more obvious one: safety.
The copper oxide is also rather dense (like aluminium oxide) so it doesn't rust through, because the oxygen can't get into the "clean"copper underneath.
Well, technically, Spain is the little brother... Portugal was born in 1143, Spain was born "de facto" in 1479 and "de jure" only in 1715.
So Portugal is older and has a younger but larger sibling.
Exactly this😂 small but old
I mean as the saying goes if a sibling looks younger he’s the oldest if a sibling looks older he’s the younger
This is what I say everytime people call Portugal the little brother lmao
People refer to it as little brother because it's geographically smaller, not everyones knows Iberian history 😂 to know it's older.

Funnily enough: Germany and France (with all the wrong answers) are the ones that remind the teacher there was homework.
Sometimes Germany is the substitute teacher too.
Germany is the class chairperson.
In my school in Germany we get barely any homework but the teacher always threatens us with homework

Theoretically, would country homework be about studying historians and people's personal opinions?
I think this post was referring to how good countries get along with the EU and its duties as a Member, like following the EU laws and paying more in as you want to get out (like Germany). Well, Greece, have you heard that?
*Greece hiding behind a corner together with Italy and Spain*
@@bennobuhler5096 Italy has always been a net contributor to EU budget tho (between third and fourth biggest contributor depending on the year) it's easy to check online for those interested.

That Japanese "helicopter destroyer" meme reminds me of the British Invincible class carriers, which were originally called "through-deck cruisers", since budget for a aircraft carrier would not be approved by parliament.
We have a much more recent example in the Admiral Kuznetsov. If you ask Russia, she isn't a carrier but a heavy aircraft cruiser to get around the limits of the Montreux Convention.
@@Schwarzenfels True. Same as the Project 1143 (Kiev-Class) ships, which entered service in 1972.
The future of the Montreux Convention is an interesting topic by itself, with Turkey's plans for the Istanbul Canal and Russia possibly losing hold of the whole Crimean peninsula (i.e. including Sevastopol).
And then there is the russian flight deck cruiser, which is totally not an aircraft carrier, but a missile cruiser that can launch planes.
And Japan can't have aircraft carriers, since they wrote into their constitution that they can't do war. They don't even have a military, only a self-defense force, which is totally not a military but looks and operates and is equipped like one.
On a sidenode, there is indeed quite a lot of armament on the thing, and unlike american carriers it doesn't need a carrier group. So they sort of have a point when they claim it isn't a carrier, except that it totally is one.
@@HappyBeezerStudios When you say flight deck cruiser, do you mean the Kiev class? Russia sold all of them and the only one which is still in active service, is the Indian INS Vikramaditya.
@@Schwarzenfels I meant the big one in the Baltic sea with that Russian name

3:15 CHECKMATE, LINCOLNITES!
I like how on the IKEA tank box it said "Beskjuta" which can be translated as "Firing at". It's a fitting name.
And if they would've bought the tanks directly from germany the tanks would already be assembled and fueled, and even come with training crew and manuals, but the manuals are all in german and the tanks are still in germany and ukraine has to go over and get them themselves.
As a Spaniard, I can confirm that we have no idea that we ever have homework.
I love how the swedish IKEA tanks have only one allen key implying that you only need one person to assemble that damned thing.
It just has THAT many parts.
3:04 There is another
*Look at USA civil war*
Incorrect.
4:00 you guys didn't even paint it you just let that thing Oxidize.
As a Swede, I would most definitely not change a thing
I am Portuguese and the homework one is accurate, atleast for myself. (Edit: I wrote the Portuguese accidentaly)
Como um brasileiro descendente de imigrantes italianos, maior parte, e portugueses, entendo o porquê não realiza minhas tarefas de casa
Not for me, though. I've always done it right, but not because I want to; only because my professors take every single opportunity to make me and my colleagues' grades as low as possible.
For those who don't know: the statue of liberty's exterior is made of copper. When copper oxidizes, it takes this blue-green color.
Finally caught an upload after being at school all week. Love your videos, Drew
6:22 curve wall
Might as well use google translate
Bro doesn't know how copper works💀
drew is one of my fav geografic youtuber
Hello from a small village near Strasbourg - France (I live 43km away from it so I’m close enough)
It’s quite funny to see you finally talk about Strasbourg for the 2nd time now I believe.
I got to wonder if you are still going to talk about it
2:34 it happened in Italy too, after Chernobyl
The fact that Drew doesn't know how copper oxidation works is just hilarious to me
The fact that he doesn't know about how the UK single handedly stopped the trans Atlantic slave trade
Great video mate
0:24 Ah yes carving up Turkey

Isnt that like foreplay for medieval women?
2:03 Portugal Inquisition and brutal Church Atrocities are well known in Goa,India.💀💀
As a swed i love the denmark idea
new fact discovered: Drew doesnt know what oxidization is
as a Dane we will be willing stop Russia from entering the Baltic sea, at least the we are further away from Sweden.
5:00 Ikea instructions are not hard to read. It's sometimes hard to know which way around something goes but you have to look at the detail. If you can't assemble your own furniture then there are people you can hire.
8:09 glory to Wisconsin
0:47 this one is even funnier if you know a guy named Yilmaz 😂 (Family name ofc)
Love how at 4:13 Drew’s talking about giving the Statue of Liberty a paint job no it’s made of copper and oxidation and before anyone gets mad at me saying he said that after I didn’t watch before commenting
5:10 omg didn't knew that brazil was a member of the balcans
one week spring break is about to end in a day or two and this is the video I'm seeing, bro 😭
2:47 North Belgium: are we a joke to you?
Drew failing at basic chemistry has to be the funniest thing ever
Drew casually forgetting that the Statue of Liberty wasn't repainted that colour, it oxidised into it.
I can't wait for balkan country ball plushies
Iceland isn't mosquito free like you think. Well, maybe they don't go by the name of "mosquito" but they do have a slightly larger similar animal. I got mosquito-like bites several times while sleeping in a hostel in Reykjavik and I saw the culprits. It's an inch-sized flying insect that stings. Maybe if you go camping, which I didn't, there might not be any flying insect given how chilly and windy it is
Even after several weeks, I still think the Denmark plush is holding a heart.
The "German reunicfication" map is something completely different - when the reunion happened, Germany didn't own half of Poland, and the "evil" part was about 1/4 the size of the rest.
That makes me think. If Poland wants nikes. And if Germany needs new planes to carry US nukes, but the F-35 is too expensive.
Why not make a combined Polish-German program. We are good friends now, right?
3:56 It was originally Copper, then after years and decades in the elements, it oxidized into that teal color, and we though, "Hey, it looks even better than before, let's leave it like that"
Drew the statue of Liberty is made of bronze it oxidized so it turnt green
4:00
Dude it's like it because it's bronze and bronze changes oxidizes after some time.
nice video mate
10:36 definitely Germany, no questions asked 😅
3:57 the reason it changed is beacause the statue is made of copper copper turns blue over time a long time tho
9:31 im surprised they still have their car😂😂

As a wisconsinite who the cheese vault part is true😂❤
Portugal is older then spain... he is the big brother
10:29 I'm either the UK for other reasons or something from the PIGS
The cheese vault bit is true though. Wisconsinites become superheroes with cheese.
As a British person I can tell you I can count on my fingers the number of times I've done my homework. I was constantly in detention but that's basically an hour with slightly less freedom at school compared with an hour at home doing the homework. I think I made the right choice!
I (14M, 13M then) went home with my friend (13M) a few months ago, and when we ate his mum asked him from the kitchen "Have you done your homework?" and we just stared confused at each other, as if silently saying "We have homework? What homework? I didn't know we had homework" to each other
That's life in a Swedish 7th grade school in a small town on the west coast for ya!
3:10 that was the Nord deutscher bund and the Süd deutscher bund
That part at 3:11 made me laugh harder than at the end of the battle of Fredericksburg
4:52 you can see the IKEA box has some letters on it. If you translate it from Swedish it says ”Shoot at”
4:40 by that logic a helicopter landing pad is also an airport runway

That venn diagram of europe looks pretty much like voting in the eurovision contest
The thumbnail is so accurate
10:20 France should be "refuses to do homework until the teacher fulfills their demands
3:56 you have never seen a church or some other old building with copper roofs? Or any other copper statue? :D It's not a coincidence they all are green. (hint: oxidation)
petition for drew to put the flag of the polish lithuanian commonwealth in the background day 5
And I took the “evil north” personally
Just checking to see if Drew has been kidnapped due to not knowing Copper turns green when it corrodes.
I love that the lore of the drew kidnapping continues in patreon names like people are giving money to drew so that he'll continue to make the same joke every episode.
As a certified Balkaner, I can confirm I am one of Drew's kidnappers
I am pretty sure that germany would be the kid that reminds the teacher
they did turkey bad
2:48: you’ve been trolled by southern gang
That exiting Balkans in tank tops meme I think comes from a time when there were highwaymen robbing cars were common over there. Plus the cops extorting money in the format of bribes. It decreased a lot I might say. I'm sure your visit to Balkans will be fun. All have their strong and weak points.
2:47 Britain and America didn’t get the memo.
9:01 as a dane i have it fine being stuffed into there, bc we would be further from swed*n
The Fr*nce of the Nordics?
As a Swede I support your opinion
4:24 just wait until you read about the classification of the Admiral Kuznetsov.
She is not an aircraft carrier.
The Soviet-built Project 1143.5 vessel in service with the Russian Navy in the Black Sea Fleet weighing in at over 5800 tons with a carry capacity of 18 SU-33 maritime fighters and a dozen helicopters is under no official books classed as an aircraft carrier.
She is an aviation-carrying cruiser. Her primary bite is from 12 SS-N-19 Shipwreck anti-ship missiles under the flight deck.
DREW LISTNEN THE STATUE OF LIBERTY DIDNT GET A PAINT JOB COPPER JUST TURNS THAT COLOR OVER TIME ITS LIKE RUST BUT FOR COPPER ITS CALLED OXIDIZATION
8:55 tmw half of the members of the *black sea economic cooperation* don't even have access to said sea

9:19 DID WE JUST FIND OLD ZEALAND?

nope, old zealand is in the netherlands, its called zeeland
1:44 Yes, that urge is huge in me
at 4:47 Japan Pulled a no no Germany, but instead of tractors, it's a "Helicopter Destroyer"
Lmao true
fun fact the statue of liberty is now a different color because it is made of copper as copper ages it color changes
