Is this Relic job trying capture a Guitar that was hung on the wall, for many years, too close to a Dartboard ..... Weird Wear.
I want the guitar you described
00:24 Aren't all fretboards laminated since they are just a stripe of wood glued to the neck?
And yeah relicing is absolute cringe.
@@EbonyPope it refers to the rosewood fretboard either having a flat back (the part that glues onto the maple neck) - the so called slab board - or laminated meaning it has a radius on the part that glues to the maple neck.
@@vladi7441 Thank you. I knew Fender did that when they were in financial trouble to save money but I didn't know that was called laminated fretboard. Thanks for the info.
Please do more fender custom shop videos! Thanks!
can we all agree when Austin pull a Fender on his show its always a fresh of breath of air and always a lit.
I don't know why so many guitarists love relicing either. It's a mystery to me. If you have to ask is that thing dinged up or has it been reliced? There's your answer.
00:24 Aren't all fretboards laminated since they are just a stripe of wood glued to the neck?
Oh and yes relicing is just cringe. Look at how good I'm pretending having toured with my guitar. Just laughable. You want it to look worn? Maybe acutally play it instead of pretending.
00:24 Aren't all fretboards laminated since they are just a stripe of wood glued to the neck?
@@primeDecomposition You can just you now care about it since if you want it to look used then just don't try to keep it looking prestine. I know this argument and it is nonsense. You can round over the neck by using sandpaper and you the gloss finish can also be easily be remedied. People who want these guitars because it let's them pretend it is actually an older Strat let's be honest. It is just pure cringe.
00:24 Aren't all fretboards laminated since they are just a stripe of wood glued to the neck?
Agree with you onthe relic jobs. It's absolute cringe. They really want to pretend how used their guitar is.
Some people like to pay extra for the beat-up stuff. More power to them. Fender knows a fool and his money are easily parted.
Evening all!! Fender 2 days in a row, wow!!
I do like that burnt orange I may get a guitar and a car in that color for my next one! Candy Tangerine I like it.
Love untraditional colours on strats, I have a neon green Strat, and the more traditionalist that hate it....the more it makes me 😁
He's finally doing some interesting Fender content. Why he hasnt done Custom Shop sooner kind of baffles me.
Because he is a Gibson historian and dealer. He can talk forever about them and probably not repeat himself once, lol. Fenders.... eh, not so much.
he’s a Gibson guy, tho
@@leviathan_is_me Always wondered why Heritage, Eastman and Maybach never got a look in 🤷🏼♂️ Any direct competitor to Gibson gotta be junk right? Or maybe not 🤔
@@shaunfreke3614 huh? What are you on about?
@@leviathan_is_me As you say the guys a ‘Gibson’ guy. Haven’t you noticed how there’s A. A lack of independent critique of Gibson products B. Gibson direct competitors don’t get reviewed….There is that any easier for you 😂
This thing is so cool!! I wouldn’t be surprised to see this sell very quickly!
Looks like a lollipop ! Thanks TrOgly !
I also have a Chicago music exchange custom shop. It's a firemist silver journeyman relic jazzmaster with matching headstock.
lOVE SATURDAY FENDER!
Please do more Strat reviews!
No we hate Strats !
I didn't ask you.
I was also against relic’ing for the longest time.
I’m kinda into it now; I like the idea that I can use the guitar a bunch and if I ever decide to sell it won’t lose value due to dings or scratches I added.
Almost guarantees the value doesn’t change.
You take the good with the bad and i really like the tangerine really growing on me!
This is awesome
Yeah more fender Trogly especially the Japanese ones !
So awesomely cool! Like the one the guy from tears for fears uses!
My '62 has 7.25 inch radius and neck is a #3 Oval C same as a '60. I did read '61 went to a thick "D' shape neck but back to C in '62.
This is sweet
Hey Trogly! That Fender T-shirt looks really good on you ! Also not all of us appreciate artificial aging or "Relic-ing" as the hipsters like to call it.
Wow! This thing sounds AWESOME. Best sounding Strat I’ve ever heard on here- hell, almost sounds like a Tele! 💯😀❤️
Therein lies the custom shop difference. Especially for a Strat
Nice looking guitar
Someday I'll have to order a Custom Shop guitar!
My friend has/had a matching set of tele and strata in that same relic finish that he got around 2012 or so. The tele was special but the strat neck was a little too narrow.
Nice guitar! Sounds better than most of your Les Paul reviews in my opinion 😉
It sounds like a Rickenbacker.
Only if you’re a Fender fan
As an owner of many fenders and a couple of ricks gotta say yr wrong@@RideAcrossTheRiver
New best time catching show
That Fender is orange overload.
Let's see a '50s reissue with a maple neck and fret board. Not all guitars need a rosewood fretboard. Phoney "aging" looks pretty bad, too.
God bless fender
that color.......rawr. I would totally order a jazzmaster in that color if I was made of money.
I don't get relic finishes. I've owned a Fender Precision from new since 1978. I gigged extensively for 6 years with it and the body and neck are ding free. They nitro has started to lift off the fretboard as wear on the fretboard/neck junction has worn it away. The all natural maple neck has turned a little darker whilst the body is now a deep honey colour. I look after my instruments.
What exactly is a real nick and ding? Is there a difference between scratches?
Honest wear or stolen valor.
@@216trixie It's a guitar, not a raid on al-Qaeda. It's not that serious; not to mention, buying a heavily worn vintage guitar says nothing about your own skill or gigging history either.
@@BringMayFlowers You're right, these days a worn-in relic guitar says nothing about your ability or how long you've been playing. My point exactly.
You should review the new Evh sa one twenty six
Crazy how a relic is worth😊 more money than a used
If I had that Strat model, I would probably dub it "Creamsicle".
Because most of us don't have 50 years left to play one in naturally
Candy Tangerine is not a custom color. It doesn’t cost any more than a Candy Apple Red finish.
Anything other than sunburst was considered custom color in 1960, so Fender sometimes refer to reissues using anything but the traditional stuff custom color too. You are right nowadays though, nothing particularly different about Candy tangerine
Isn't candy apple red a "custom color" finish. The non custom colours are like sunburst, black, and white.
I am not sure what fender calls their special orders stuff.
@@srYYZ he was implying that this guitar cost more because of the color it does not. I do not want to argue with you.
@@zanzabar4ky7 he was implying that the guitar cost more because it was a custom color. It is not. You can get one offs and they are truly custom.
I would be surprised if it originally had the back plate on. I’ve seen relic customs come without it.
Old CME photos showed it on
@@Trog well then, I am surprised. 😁
It's a 1960 reissue ... with a 1977 mod!
😎❤👍
You should try to compare a squier Stratocaster to a Fender Stratocaster on a video . Like the components Bridge, pick-ups, frets, body and nut.
If only I could afford nice things.
I will come relic, for free your nice guitars. I'll do a great job with a hammer and then take a flathead screwdriver and gouged some deep long scratches.
Most Strat players take that back plate off for ease of string changing.
Mixed feelings about this 2012 CS 60s Reissue- looks like 'relicing by shrapnel' not what wear would actually look like. In this case ruins the beautiful Candy Apple Tangerine finish color. Not a fan of sanding necks either, prefer a satin finish not bare wood, since humidity can play more havoc with bare wood necks.
4:41 The six (6) tremolo screws look to be tightened all the way down!
😕Those screws need to be backed out a bit before using the tremolo.
10:45, its been my experience that Stratocasters generally sound better with a medium high action, those single coils really respond well when set up that way.
No Skunk Stripe?
In 1960 the truss rod went in before the slab rosewood board, so no skunk stripe... Have the same guitar but in Sonic Blue. The 'relicing' is much better on mine. Looks totally genuine. 🙂
I loved this one. It's my favourite Strat that you've ever reviewed on the channel.
If that wea more of a checking style of relic, I would like way better. Still cool though.
'aging compound " eeww
its just factory worker fumunda cheese
So, @bltvd, is a guitar that has been play to hell and back for 60 years and more and is naturally "reliced" stupid?
I like the concept, and at 66 years ancient have not been able to make my '76 LP Custom that I've owned since '78 look "reliced" (and wouldn't want to), but I like that Fender and Gibson are doing this. They make many that don't look stupid.
Guess I'm just different cause I don't get the whole relic thing, I'd rather play in my own guitar, and they charge a ton more for it, kinda like buying new pants with holes all in em lol.. .if I'm guna have a beat up guitar I'm guna be the one to beat it up, smooth neck or not...
✌️
Fender Saturday 😂
Or Straturday.
ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ 💯👍
00:24 Aren't all fretboards laminated since they are just a stripe of wood glued to the neck?
Sometime in 1963 Fender switched to Rosewood veneers that are curved on the top and bottom. So the older flat bottom neck joint gets called the “Slab board” (Maple necks without a skunk stripe on the back have the same thing, but it’s much harder to see the joint.)
@@joermnyc Yeah I knew that. Just not that they call it laminated which would imply that the wood itself is made up out of sheets that were laminated or glued together if you will.
They used to be referred to as "Round Lam" boards but sometime recently the round part disappeared from usage.
the trem is probably stiff because the 6 screws on the trim are screwed down tight to the body so the trem is not floating
I bet someone who buys a relic strat is really careful not to put any scratches on dings on it.
Why do they need to relic these guitars? Just reissue them.
Fender make both relic and non-relic options, relax.
Stratocasters in 1960 came with 3 way switches. I'm guessing in 2012 that one did, as well, but they probably included the 5 way with the case candy, and someone made the modification.
Wrong
@ChrisShortyAllen That one might not have because it came from the custom shop. However, 1960 Strats came with 3 way switches.
i will never understand paying extra to age a guitar
Amen
I used to hold this opinion and while I don’t own any relic’d guitars, I can sort of see the appeal. I think sometimes, it can be aesthetically pleasing. Obviously, it isn’t real aging but it can still look good.
I hate the color orange on anything but guitars
what about oranges?
@@billyghostal They're fantastic, easily top 3 fruit for me. That being said they would look better if they were blue
5-way switch on a 1960? That takes away all the fun.
To be fair, there's practically nothing on that guitar that screams 1960. Most of it's attributes have nothing to do with a 1960 strat, it's more like a 'reimagined' strat. Doesn't make it a bad guitar though, just wildly inaccurate lol
We don't like the relicing more than the new look in the community
Incredible color. I dislike relic crap.
I prefer natural play wear to relicing. To me it seems perverse to pay new guitar prices for a guitar with fake wear on it.
Choices are not perversions.
Seems to me that your playing and sound is better using a strat.
Never understood, why someone would pay good money for someone to beat your guitar up. Hell just loan it out to a friend and save yourself some money!
That actually costs. Resale value reduced. So not a good idea.
Get your guitar back.
I hate relicing! It looks stupid!
Who cares🤷
Relics.. lol
They are screw in guitars by design, to think anything like that would bring 3 - 5k is laughable. And I loves me a tele with a v neck.
Imagine how much better that guitar would be without that stupid relicing!
That's sweet paint job wouldn't be messed up.
The good news is that you can order one without that "stupid reclining" Mr. Salty.
@@HALWASRIGHT Reclining a Strat is NOT stoopid.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver But paying someone to do it for you is EPICALLY stupid.
@@reno145some people just want it to look old out of the box
I’m confused. It’s not the kind of kind of video I’m used to seeing from you. And it’s not at the normal time either. Most of the time I watch you around midnight. So what’s the deal?
Trogly’s Video editor is out with a medical issue, so he’s been doing all the work behind the scenes for the last couple weeks.
All beat up scratched up new guitar. Get your money back.
Some people like to pay extra for the beat-up stuff. More power to them. Fender knows a fool and his money are easily parted.
As a business plan your analysis is weak.
Don't understand the relicing thing, it's just fake.
Why not play it and do it yourself.
YIPPIE!
yahoo
The reloc is terrible. Id be embarrassed to show people it. Lame
Better to have a reliced guitar than a reliced girlfriend. Because you know, her relic job is natural wear and tear. Oh, those nicks and dings…
Lets see, Fender builds a guitar to make it look worn and played = expensive.
Buy a new guitar and get actual players wear = player grade.
pre-beat
yuck...
Relic guitars are the stupidest idea in the history of the universe. There has never been a dumber idea. There have been worse ideas but there are none dumber.
Your analysis is pretty dumb. Sorry.
Only good ideas make profits in the long term.
Buyers choose. They might be dumb but that is not an idea.
@@ChrisShortyAllen This isn't about profit. It's about being your own person. It's about individuality and originality on the one hand versus unoriginality and faking a valuable and historical piece of art on the other hand. No, you didn't buy Rory Gallagher's Strat. You bought a guitar that was faked to look like Rory Gallagher's Strat. Now you can pretend you're playing Rory Gallagher's Strat, but you're not, are you? You're posing.
I love Rory Gallagher. I saw him live more than I saw any other act, and it's because of him that I bought my first Strat, but do I want to be him or pretend I'm playing his guitar? No thanks. I'll be me.
Its really easy to beat up a new guitar for free
Show us one you have done.
he bought it for 2800 USD and is selling it for 4700 + shipping haha
Not a fan of the relic job
It sounds cheap, no depth
Z is for late.
HOW CAN IT BE A REISSUE WHEN ORANGE METALLIC WAS NEVER OFFERED BACK IN THE 60'S????? JUST BULLSHIT!
