I absolutely love the yak-2 kabb, I know it looks like a bomber, but trust me, it is an amazing fighter. Other good ones are the p-40, any of the F4U line of planes, the F8F, and any of the fw-190s. I don't have much experience in the Russian tree, so I can't help you much with that.
