  • Welcome to the second castle we visited alongside our trusty dronepilot. This time we’re at the castle known as Wernerseck and it is the result of the many confrontations between two Archbishops: the one in Cologne and the one in Trier. It was constructed by the bishop in Trier to cement his claim on this region. It soon became redundant as the borders stretched even further. Despite this we’re still in the company of quite a substantial ruin. Most of the walls are still in good shape. Two are constructed using blind arches while one is a solid construction. The keep, or bergfried, has been restored, but sadly couldn’t be accessed on our visit. We hope you enjoy!

Hi Jen, thanks for taking the time to watch our video. The previous one can be found on our channel real easy. Not too much head banging in this one thankfully, but that could all change next week of course!

Ahhh, yes. I needed this today... ive been having quite a time of late trying to find any decent fortress walkthrough videos (that i havent seen already, or arent just new videos of sites im already familiar with) and its made me a little frutrsted. Ive begun to branch out somewhat into castles located in the middle east and former soviet bloc countries, but its difficult to successfully search for uploads that arent titled (or presented, for that matter) in English. Not ideal, although sometimes ive been lucky enough to stumble upon some truely exceptional sites, even if i dontnunderstand a word of what is said about them and no auto-translsted subs are available. Ive learned for example that eve though most castles in that partnof the world are truly deriluct ruins, Azerbaijan and Iran have some exceptionally well preserved fortresses that are hardly known outside their own countries. Edit: also, im curious, i noticed an open portal at ground level in the rear side of the bergfried. Did uou guyshappen to poke your heads in there by chance? I know its probably just a cellar or small animal stables or something, im sure if it were all yhat interesting you'd mention it in your video but figured id ask anyway

Tough times for castle enthusiasts in the US. Visiting Middle Eastern castles (and beyond) would be a nice to have, but there are still plenty of European ones to keep us busy.
The door/hole you see wasn't anything interesting. I recall there wasn't even a room or anything there, just a bit of wall missing? Maybe the video shows it darker than it actually was.

I'll give it a 8.75. What more do you want than to have a castle built because 2 men in robes were having a catfight.😇😉

The men in robes are more dangerous than many may think 😁

@@TheHistoryHikers Yes…good thinking! Maybe you will start doing all scores on a 1 decimal point scale? 8.1, 9.8, 5.3… it becomes ever more arbitrary and subjective, which is why yes, it makes sense to do it 🤫
