I live in Toronto, Canada, and to rent a one bedroom is at least $2000.00 a month. Add groceries, cell phone, internet, etc, and entertainment, you need $3500.00 a month to live comfortably as a single person. This is why I am retiring to Vietnam soon.
Retirement spoiler alert: there is no retirement visa in VN. You will need to start a business investment, get a teaching job or marry a local to avoid being a revolving door tourist...but maybe someday the rules will change again.

Nice video and cool to see you’re living in Da Nang! I remember watching your videos years ago about moving back to Vietnam. I moved to Da Nang in December of last year and living in An Thuong as well and love it here! Maybe I’ll see you around the area one of these days!
Thank you for the wonderful videos of Vietnam. I have learned many things about Vietnem from all your hard work. Now I will be arriving in Da Lat this Tuesday, April 23rd, for my frist visit to Vietnem. And yes, I only know English. This will be a life changing journey for me. Wish me good luck! Cam on!
In my current area right now which is Montreal Canada, I'm paying $1320 cad for a 5 1/2 apartment just for rent and there's no beach here so I would probably live comfortably in Da Nang just with my rent price lol. My goal is to visit multiple city in SE Asia within the next few months and Vietnam is one of them. Thank you for this very informative video, very interesting.
San Diego California here. Average home price is close to $1 million dollars. Just for rent (not including utilities) is average $2k per month, gasoline is currently around the $5 per gallon range, and eating out is just a memory of the past. Vietnam seems like a great place that is affordable and has VERY beautiful women!
I concur. I live here, bought a house in ‘21 before the house spike and so thankful I did. Houses in my area that used to be $600-700k are now averaging $1 mill, and people are still buying them. Insane!

I am two years away from retirement and was going to slow travel thru Asia which Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia are on my list. Looking forward to watching future videos
I haven't been to Danang for 8 years. Then, it was beautiful but it was just a sleepy, medium sized town. There wasn't much to do. But I heard it's developed since then.
I live in regional New South Wales (Australia). To cover the same costs as you have outlined, it costs about $5000 AUD per month and that is being conservative with groceries and going out. This equates to about $3600 USD per month. I must say that we don't rent, we have a mortgage and a relatively low one.
thank you so much for this Video. I had been to Da Nang 3 years ago and loved it. I am planning to go Da Nang in January and stay there. I hope they have YOGA studios also. Its a great place to live
Haha I know that apartment, the interior design was one of the best I've seen here but I just need a separate room to work and sleep so kept looking:)) But I love it here, except brutal temperatures during summer
I really liked Da Nang. The people were so friendly and chill, i still remember how so many school kids were practicing a choreography in this big building and they all rushed to greet me when they saw me. And so many vietnamese women will ask if you're single when you're travelling alone :D They're so friendly and flirty, even to strangers. One time a friend group had a girl ask me to date her and her friends were video-taping it. It was hilarious. I felt so bad saying that i'm just a tourist and i'm not living here. I didn't want to offend her. The only problem if you're a "visible foreigner" (i'm from south part of india, so i guess they don't see many people like me in vietnam) is that a lot of Grab drivers work as part-time pimps and will keep telling you about some "girls" (if you understand what i mean) and this happens like everytime i walk alone or go by myself. These kind of pimps also are on the side-street and they work near many beach areas (like My Kae beach). I saw some Asian guys bring these kind of girls to the hotel, i don't really like it, but not my problem. Maybe it's not a problem if you live in a Vietnamese family friendly area, you can live a normal life and blend in more.

Unless u r an English teacher or married to a local, u will only get a 60 day visa. Thailand is the better option for remote workers who are not English teachers with their new 5 year DTV visa.
Thank you so much for your informative and helpful video. I am a recently retired American man with a Social Security pension considering moving to Vietnam. At the risk of being presumptuous may I suggest Vietnam cut two or three zeros off the end of their currency? Once inflation is under control within a country, as it seems to be in Vietnam, this is easy to do. It would make it a lot easier for expats and tourists to integrate into your country. Finding out your currency is worth over 25,000 Dong to one U.S. dollar is disconcerting at best and makes it arduous just to count out money. Vietnam would be so much more attractive to westerners and their money if the exchange rate were 1 to 25 instead of 1 to 25,000.
My rent alone in my Canadian town is $1700 CND a month, before utilities. If I included utilities, other bills and food I'm sure it gets quite close to $2500 a month, and that still doesn't include any entertainment outside of the apartment. I'm actually traveling to Vietnam this fall for a few months with the idea of planning out a possible (very possible) move there, as I'm very done with the cost of living in my country, among other things. I was in Vietnam in 2011 so I'm interested to see what has changed.
@@mikhailsaa7506 I'm in a town 45min outside of Ottawa. Toronto is the most expensive place in Canada. You can be anywhere else and it'd be a little cheaper.
it's interesting to see how much a stay in Da Nang costs, it's indeed a lovely city I've been living in HCMC , a few years in Ha Noi and the last 5 year in Da Nang. My costs are about $ 300,- a month. My appartment is not that luxury but still nice. Today I once more became aware why I like Da Nang, I was very tired but needed some vegetables. So I went to the market which was closed but nearby you still can buy almost anything. I bought what I needed and asked how much it was. I thought the woman said it was năm mươi (fifty thousand) vietnam dong I expected it would have been twintig and thought it was expansive but I was to tired so I gave 2 bills of twenty and one of ten. With a big smile she took only the bill of ten and said now more clearly that it was năm nghìn (five thousand) VD. I regularly read that you have to haggle when you buy something, I never do that and then they don't try to take advantage of you because you are a foreigner. At least not in the village streets of Da Nang. I lived in the Liên Chiểu district for a long time, I never met another foreigner there, but it is very cheap, great food stalls and all the children want to practice their English with you.. Most interesting is that almost all Vietnamese love Da Nang, but when you ask why? ... after a while you might get the only answer...because it is Da Nang..
@@WhatThePho thank you, they are friendly everywhere in Vietnam, in Ha Noi I lived in the Hà Đông district, and in TP HCMC in Gò Vấp, which was also very nice, but Da Nang is a bit more relaxed..

Hi Van! Did you move to Da Nang recently? I am also Van, and am currently living in Da Nang. I have been following your videos for years, and would absolutely love to meet up with you.
how about health insurance or hospital? you never know what happen when traveling to new area. by the way , cost of living in San Jose is about 6K/month
There are no good hospitals outside of HCMC and Hanoi and the French hospitals are really the only ones most foreigners will be able to stomach visiting. A real checkup will costs $500 for travel and another $500 for just a basic checkup. Insurance depends on age and health, but usually run $100/month but only for major medical, no chance to get full coverage insurance in Vietnam. There is no visa option for expats, tourist visa or get a job. Tourist visa can only be applied for when out of Vietnam, so 3-10+ days of travel to another country, with their own visa rules and policies. I've head people do endless visa runs and little cost and know of other people who get denied after their first visa run. No way to know.

Happy to know that my favorite Van is in An Thuong now. I'm living in An Thuong too😊
How nice is that place please is it good for vacation
Wow ! 500 us a month, everything included . Although I would prefer something outside the city because im a country boy from northern Vermont
Em đang làm việc HN. Nghe chị review xong em nhớ nhà tại ĐN. Cuối năm em dự định về lại ĐN 😂
Great Content
Living in Manhattan which is the most expensive place in the US compared to most likely Vietnam the cheapest
WOW. WHAT A DIFFERENCE
I am keen to do the Da Nang tour you have coming up in August.
In New York, I need around $7000 a month to live decently. That is why I will be moving to Vietnam as soon as I can.
Oh wow! It’s very expensive
For $2500/mo you live like a wealthiest person in Da Nang and much warmer too
You pay 1700 my dude where in Canada? There is NOTHING in Toronto for under 2k:) Because of Toronto I am here and for me its wonderful
@@mikhailsaa7506 I'm in a town 45min outside of Ottawa. Toronto is the most expensive place in Canada. You can be anywhere else and it'd be a little cheaper.
@@SimpleLivingForever Indeed. Though my intentions would be to not spend as much lol. I'd try to get my monthly costs around 1200 a month.
it's interesting to see how much a stay in Da Nang costs, it's indeed a lovely city I've been living in HCMC , a few years in Ha Noi and the last 5 year in Da Nang.
Ohhh beautiful story! I know Da Nang people are very nice 😊 Thank you for sharing
@@WhatThePho thank you, they are friendly everywhere in Vietnam, in Ha Noi I lived in the Hà Đông district, and in TP HCMC in Gò Vấp, which was also very nice, but Da Nang is a bit more relaxed..
Hi Van! Geez I pay over $1,500 just for a one bedroom apt here in Houston not counting the bills.
I'd love to retire in Asia one day as I'm of Asian descent and south east asia is very appealing to me

Thanks Vân for sharing with us 😀. It’s very good living cost in Đà Nẵng 😀. In my area, US location… very expensive 😀.
I live in SD, the most expensive city in America. I’m visiting VN right now and spending $$$ faster than I spend it in SD. Chet anh roi.
Just read on some Facebook group..
About electricity being so expensive.
I thought having watched other videos that roughly £50 a month extra for electricity I've just read that one guy was charged 500 dollars I'm preety worried now, I wasn't expecting electricity being so expensive
Very good information Van!
Nice video 😊😊
Love all the information in this video! 😊
Nice one❤
Hey Van, your English is amazing!! You speak the Vietnamese northern dialect, and you learned English without any of its accent--that's amazing! Well done!
I think da nang is relatively affordable 😊compared to ho chi
Welcome to here😀 How to recognize that the apartment is in An Thượng before you said - russian books on the shelf😂 But 12M+ for a studio 😱😱😱
Awesome Keep up the good work and videos.
Very helpful thank you...Da Nang and Chiang Mai best places in SE Asia...
I appreciate your kind share. Thanks VÂN
What worries me is whether the formaldehyde in this apartment exceeds the standard.
I love Đà Nẵng ! I wouldn’t mind spending months at a time there in the future.
I'll be there very soon. Thank you for this video :-)
Xin chao to one of the most pretty of UA-camrs ever have I seen 😃
Great video presentation with a beautiful smile. This is an important topic for me as well as others. Good job.
Vs Honolulu Hawaii USA 🇺🇸
Studio condo: $1900
Food: $600
Public or hired transportation: $600
Electric: $180
Water: $40
Home Internet: $70
Cellular Phone Service:$80
General Excise Tax (sales tax incurred on ALL sales and labor): 4.71%
Phew 😮💨 WAY more expensive than many other places in the world 🌎
Hawaii has the highest electricity rates/kwh in the country. But luckily we have the lowest property tax in the nation (but also the 3rd highest property costs in the country)
There you go
3.7-4k USD a month in Los Angeles. I'm pretty far away from retirement. Inflation is insane here.
Spokane, WA...inexpensive compared to Seattle. Have lived here since 2001..came back from 9 years in Okinawa, Japan.
This was a Godsend. Thank you
Great video! I have been thinking about relocating there.
not in Saigon anymore? Am in Phu My Hung, D7, Saigon and it's almost $1500 a month here... definitely looking for somewhere cheaper!!
Great video Van. Did you recently relocate from Ho Chi Minh City to Danang?
Awesome Video, Van! I pay over $2600 usd a mo for a 1bd APT.
Wait...I noticed that you did not include your cost for surfshark in your monthly cost?
Also what about insurance? Taxes?
Vietnam is too amazing
Excellent video. Very informative as well!
Maybe I’ll see you to see Vietnam ?
Can you give us breakdown of insurance cost and visa cost for expat? Thank you Van, you're the best!
I’ve never been to Danang, but it is on my list. Definitely need to get there soon. Will you be there for a long time? I still owe you a drink. 😂😂
