I like how the teams aren't stagnant in blue lock even though its a team oriented game. I though team z was going to be the main focus for the whole thing but no. its like if shortly into haikyuu, they just binned half of karasuno because they weren't good enough and then had hinata start playing with ushijima and oikawa. Then you rank and power scale everyone like a tournament manga.
It's a good thing they did that too. Haikyuu Manga dragged on for WAAAY too long. Took forever for characters to improve and develop. It's one of the main things that turned me off from Haikyuu.
@@father5946 imo as someone who plays sports it was better to me for that reason, because you can't just add shit to ur bag in a day or even a week. It takes time and effort, and even with all of that it may STILL not work. Loved how they depicted the grind
@@itssitcomstupid no, hinata would have made it. He was only bad because no one put he didn't have any opportunities to learn and become better. His coach even admits to skimping over hinata's personal growth for the betterment of the team. Once hinata is placed in an environment where he can study other players and focus solely on his personal growth in season 4, he becomes much better. What isagi went through in blue lock, is likely similar to what would happen with hinata.
@@ohno4435 huh? Hinata took over 200 chapters just to learn how to bump a ball lmfao If you were in a decent league, you'd know that any decent player should and would have picked up on the basics on the first week of practice.
Imma be honest. I have never once cringed while reading the series. I know the dialogue is stupid but the sheer like amount of hate held by all the characters is literally the best thing ever.
I mean honestly most manga I've read/anime I have watched have a ton of cringe moments. Most of them I think are mostly do to simply how something translates but regardless I've gotten used to it. However having played sports through my entire school career I can honestly say I have met people that say things similar to damn near every single character in this manga/anime. Sports are FILLED with "I am the king" people...they just dont specifically say "I am the king" lol
What i’ve read people hate him. They hate How he continue to be “weak 1 on 1” and is pretty useless compared to characters such as Nagi or Rin, and now Kaiser
@@exolotyl9044 Yeah man, honestly for me It was kind of cathartic when Isagi called Barou a retard and got it reverse on him. I love the scenes when Isagi just suddenly switches on demon time and becomes a totally different person.
Bachira is one of my favorite characters, and I just love the fact that everyone else there wants to tear each other apart to be the best, but Bachira is just vibing cuz he gets to play soccer with people who can keep up with him lol. At no point was he worried about his career, just losing the ability to play with his friends lol. And yet here he is, killing the game, set to do what he loves for life lol
Bachira believes he's the best. That no one will be in his level. But he realized during the Rin vs Isagi rematch that he is the one who should catch up with those monsters
Blue Lock is a series that I relate to all the more as I grow older. Despite the insanity the series weirdly inspires me to get better and be more selfish (in a good way). I don't know what's the next for the series but I can't wait to read the next chapter.
Japan weren't actually demolished in 2018 WC, they lost in the most heartbreaking way. They led 2-0 against Belgium which was filled with so many world class players and then Belgium managed to turn it around and won by 2-3, which the last goal on the game was scored in the last minute with lightning speed counter attack. Even tho, you're not Japanese, you'd feel for them. At the time I wasn't into Anime or Manga so I didn't really have a special feeling towards Japan, but that was just painful.
I still remember one of the Japanese defender running from one end to other, almost stopping that last goal, then ended up punching the ground wishing he made it
What I don't like about people criticising it is that they simplify ego's ideology's into "if you're the striker, you must hog the ball", they read the first chapter and then say that without reading the series. Like as we progress through the series we see teamwork slowly coming into play, the first example being 'chemical reaction', "individuality can lead to indirect teamwork". And as you've said teamwork in blue lock isn't really thrown away rather it is just a by product for the players, ego doesn't encourage hogging the ball, rather don't be afraid to use your own talent, even at the expense of your teammates to score a goal, if you're confident enough or are sure enough that your solo play would be more safe to do near the goal than passing around then go for solo playing, only pass it if you're getting cornered, that's what ego is saying.
I Like the manga very much but that is some BS when same team players try to rob each other of the ball. On a real pitch with about equal level players, they would get smoked. But it is a manga at the end of the day so it is also okay. Even if you have the greatest striker, winning a world cup requires much more so I am waiting the manga answer to that too!!!!
@@mannujc9871 while true, those moments happened in the early phase of the project. Right now I think there is not so much of a I will steal this ball away from him, rather they're thinking of how can they actually stand out once they're given the chance to, I think barou is the only one sticking to his stealing shit, he did stop stealing it directly rather he waits for chances during times where the enemies will be open. And I totally agree with some of your statement here, on a real pitch they would get smoked, but that is if they don't do a single bit of teamwork, which we have already seen they can during the vs U20 arc. It's more so of an hypothetical approach of what perfect circumstances can lead to so I don't mind it as much and it's also a manga as you've said. I'm also waiting for the world Cup moment considering that might be the final arc and will answer most of the questions we've had regarding the series.
@@mannujc9871 It makes sense to rob off the ball if you know the person carrying the ball isn't going to pass to you, doesn't have the capability to shoot and will eventually lose the opportunity. For example in U12 tournament, Isagi was leading the charge but Ego ordered Barou to devour Isagi because he knew that Barou would have the power to finish whatever situation Isagi creates. So it makes perfect sense to rob the ball in such a situation. Ego isn't making the greatest team, he is making the greatest striker and for someone to be a good striker would require them to work out the shortcomings of his own team and realise when should he steal the ball off his own team in time when he knows that his teammate would lose the opportunity.
@@mannujc9871 Means you dont see top players play very much.. Find Messi goal as PSG to Manchester City, that is an example of egoist. He pass the ball to Mbappe, just behind him a little bit, so Mbappe has to pass it back to Messi so he doesn't seem stupid. And Messi take that return pass from Mbappe to score. And then take Halland, he love to appear in front of player holding the ball and create a momentum that if the ball holder dont pass it to him, he let a big chance slip, that was a display of ego as a skill that screams for "pass to me" because that momentum and sprint is his main weapon
I never feel the "edgy line" cringe, because it's somehow relate to their ego, they don't care what people could think about what they say, so they say it, something like that meme "I may be cringe, but I'm free"
This manga literally gave me a great impact on my career and of being an open minded person. Like it gave me an "Oh yeah...." feeling, which seems wrong but it makes sense that it also feels right. And there's where I get new ideas to use in my real life... Hell yes I'm getting knowledge here, reflecting in my 3d life. And being egoistic SOMETIMES connected to the person you wanna become (success as other termed it), it helps me as an individual. No comment in edginess, sometimes I like stories in metaphors, easily understood, common sense wise. It's there and it's great. There's art in the words. It's the thing that makes me reflect on my life, yeah. The piece just give me hype with my own life and it's great reading this and reflecting it in myself.
Blue Lock was a random recommendation from a friend and has grown to be one of my favorite manga. To make every character (even the throw away ones) feel so complex really gets me excited to keep on reading.
I'm not a sports fan at all, never consumed any sports media in my life. But the concept of Blue Lock really drew me in when I saw the first anime PV, and I'm caught up with all of the chapters so far. I'm so stoked to see the anime adaptation, this is genuinely one of the most interesting things I've read in a while.
I'm drawn into this after the philosophy of how you become strong in JJK, like how Gojo was trying to get Megumi to be more ambitious and selfish, and how the only way to reach the peaks of jujutsu is to focus on your own desires and wants and controlling the world around you. It's a new take for shonen, and I think it makes for very fascinating character development
Idk why people r so set in manga being hyper realistic man. Like that’s what makes it fun and interesting. It’s about giving it a twist, and about the possibilities. You gotta have imagination
My favorite manga, i love how the mc actually gets character development and learns something new each match, the cast is amazing and the story is pretty entertaining, i simply love it, can't wait for the adaptation to come out this year
actually, the essence of the blue lock series is actually very realistic, especially if your role is a striker, whose main job on the field is to get up to the opponent's goal area, to either provide an assist to a player who is more open for goal (if your options are minimal in front of goal. just like how Isagi did in the first chapter... which he regretted) or the MAIN JOB which is TO SCORE GOALS. if you are a football player and fan like me, you may already have an understanding of how the sport functions and you may know of players like Ronaldo and Messi, the goats of football, both being the most iconic names in the world of sports. and they both have dominated the sport for almost 15 to 16 years and counting despite their growing age. and the essence of egoism that the series is building around is a real thing in football actually, and in most sports altogether. footballers like Ronaldo and Messi are only the best in the world because they have a sense of selfishness, an ego that drives them, an ego that ALWAYS TELLS THEM TO WIN, AND ONLY WIN, AND TO SCORE GOALS. It this ego or essence that they have that makes them the greatest of all time in football... and I'm 100% positive other big-name sports players for example in basketball, we have LeBron and Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, who 100% for sure have this same essence in their play... in how they became the best... so bashers that have a hard time understanding this, clearly grew up to not just the traditional shonen protagonist, but also grew up with the idea that sports are always a team thing.. yes sports are a team thing, especially football... but if you really want to shine, and have a spot with the pro's or even become the best in the sport... you have to live for personal glory, the win, for YOURSELF. you must develop an ego.
facts anyone that has played a sport seriously can see the ego is super important, theyre many players who are good technically but dont have that mindset
I love how ridiculously edgy Blue Lock is. Like mfs will say series like Tokyo Ghoul or Berserk are edgy just because of their darker tones and themes, but Blue Lock is edge incarnate. Blue Lock is edgy in a way that would make 14 year-olds who unironically post Joker Society memes blush. It's so damn funny that it works
It's about football 🤣🤣🤣. No matter how edgy you try to make it, as soon as you remember that, you're like: Well this is an exaggeration. Whereas stories like Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk are actually stories about death and gore. I'm just saying it seems to be a poor comparison 🤷🏾♂️.
@@SensitiveSavage Berserk and TG use the dark themes to explore the psyches of the characters and enhance the stories. They are dark, and if you removed the darkness from either they couldn't still tell the story they aim to tell. Blue Lock, on the other hand, does the basic legwork to compare the dynamics of a team player compared to an egotist, but if you removed all the edgy aspects, you'd still be able to tell the same story. A dark story uses the dark themes to tell a story, an edgy story uses dark themes/swearing/slurs to use them.
@@thatonguy2407 I think I get what you're trying to say. I just think you can't compare them because they're so different. Stories like Berserk and Tokyo Ghoul need the darker aspects to push the story forward, you head into them aspecting stuff like that. A sports manga or anime is basically just that, about the sport, if it starts to branch out too much you'll find that those things might even be a stretch and unnecessary. Like I said I understand what you mean. I just got a little upset with your original comment because it felt like you didn't think Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk are real edge type mangas when they're seriously some of the best. And saying Blue Lock is Edge incarnate sounds like a real stretch. No matter how insane things get, it doesn't really come over too seriously for me, when I realize it's all centered around a sport. That's what I meant by branching out, because in order for it to really become Edge Incarnate, it would have to do just that. Maybe if they were fighting extraterrestrials with superpowered abilities that focused around kicking soccer balls at them. It sounds crazy 🤣, but just imagine those monsters are terrifying and a lot of people are killed and the emotional Rollercoaster it can put you through. Than I can start to take the edginess seriously.
@@SensitiveSavage there's a *big* difference between a series being edgy and a series being dark. A series can have scenes with gore, slurs, swearing and whatever else and not be edgy if those scenes are used to meaningfully push the themes and narrative. For example: the rape scenes in Berserk are all used brilliantly to build the world and narrative and characters, and aren't ever lessened to just a quick scene, while in SAO Asuna is sexually assaulted to quickly make a hateable bad guy and it doesn't have any lasting impact. Berserk shows much more explicit, much darker content, and yet the scene in SAO is edgy, and Berserk is not. Manga like Berserk and TG are dark, but they use the darkness to tell the story, and nothing is done just because it's dark. Blue Lock has characters swearing often and calling each other retards just because. Joker society memes are edgy, Bill Burr jokes tend to be dark.
Blue Lock had me addicted to seeing Isagi's way of constantly evolving and pulling is own against some of the craziest competition I've seen in sports manga. I highly recommend anyone who loves sports manga to give this one a try for sure :)
All I’ve heard about this series prior is that people either really love this series or don’t vibe with the concept at all. I totally get why people would think the latter after hearing about the type of players on this team but honestly this got me more intrigued to check this out when the anime drops, as much as I like my Haikyu style sports anime (which I’m guessing Ao Ashi is gonna be like)
Yeah at first I didn't really like the concept of the manga. I play football and it isn't representative of the sport as far as a 1 to 1 manga adaptation. I myself is a forward position player but I don't really vibe with how football here is represented. But it is still very entertaining for me to read especially with its very unorthodox take on sports manga. Especially with the development of Isagi throughout the series. Also I would reccommend 'Be Blues!' which is also a football manga that is in the "Haikyu style sports anime".
I am reading Ao Ashi and I can say that is not the same as Haikyuu. Haikyuu is more inmature in the idea of being profesional in a sport while Ao Ashi represents the growth of the protagonist to be a class world player. Ao Ashi talks about the life of the people who search to be profesional. Haikyuu is more a school work dream and honestly very sweet.
One very nice thing I like about this manga is that it is realistic when it comes to consequences: nice people aren't chosen just because they are nice, powerful people aren't just discard because they are bad. For example: Isagi and Nagi chose Barou instead of the other player even though they were aware that Barou was selfish and might actually bring down the team (which he even does in the next match). Or even the fact that luck can sometimes play for the 'bad guy' as well: as we see Rin defeating Isagi by complete luck even though they were both tied in the second phase.
Thank you dude. You sold this series to me, and I really identify with your arguments. To me the brilliance of anime and manga is the possibility to go beyond whats humanly capable or realistic to convey a message in an intensity otherwise unreachable.
5:00 Also not it's a big deal but the blue lock artist has illustrated blue lock and dolly kill kill not jagaaan. The story of both series was done by the same guy. Just for anyone that was wondering
even if am big football fan , this manga still give me the same taste of real football . its a massive one & if they animate it well , its gonna be a big hit
Isagi is the coolest mc by far, this nigga will manipulate you to do what he wants while saying to fuck off and then ironically he will call you a genius getting in his way He's just so dope
The ego part of blue lock is actually not bad and made me realise that a lot of players have a lot of ego, ego that allows them to be the best in the world. So its not bad in that aspect.
A small correction, Blue Lock is actually the second series of the illustrator (Nomura Yuusuke) that worked on Dolly Kill Kill, it's the writer (Kaneshiro Muneyuki) that worked on Jagaaaaaan and also Kamisama no Iutoori.
I've been watching football for a very long time and one thing that Blue Lock absolutely nails on the head is that Asian culture (particularly Japanese) is not suitable for the production of elite football players largely because of its emphasis on self-sacrifice and playing one's role. Many Japanese (and Asian in general) players have made it to the top of European football but as Blue Lock states but they almost always make it in the positions of defensive midfielder, defender or full back, all positions centered around being a 'cog' within a larger machine. Doing their part but no more than that. The positions of forward/attackers are dominated by European and South American players even African often times because these regions culturally emphasise individualism far more than teamwork. Heung-min Son is a real life Korean football player who broke this trend but other than him, there really aren't any other Asian players in history or on the horizon for the future that look like they'll break the cycle of producing role-players rather than stars. Blue Lock is the perfect manga for avid football fans and it is intricately researched and presented from the perspective of a heartbroken Japanese football fan. Say what you want, but its themes are written to perfection.
@Broken Ronin ok I literally spent the last 5 months catching up on this manga and holy FUCK you’re so right this shit was above and beyond anything I’ve ever read I’m goddamn obsessed. Thank you for introducing me!
This video is all I need to convince myself to watch Bluelock. What a fitting title... I can't believe you manage to perfectly summarize the whole manga in that sentence... It does teach you how to win and GODDAMN YOU'RE RIGHT!! I just binge the first 5 episodes immediately after watching this video halfway and shit it is SO GOODD!! Thanks for the suggestion Ronin 👍 You just earn a sub
I have been into anime/manga world since my "Inazuma eleven" days when I was a lil kid and used to watch it on tv . When I finished highschool and got my own phone, I finished watching all the seasons from Inazuma Eleven. Sports anime hits diff , Since then I have watched "Days" a football anime by Mappa and currently reading football manga Ao Ashi and Bluelock. I love the artwork, the dialogues and the egos of the characters from Bluelock. If you are a football player or a football fan like me, you get hooked into it 😁
I feel like the dialogue choice is deliberate since everyone feels like they’re the protagonist that they feel they need to go ham in every aspect of life including how they speak to everyone and to their own selves.
I really like Blue Lock, and I really like your assessment of it. My favorite anime is Haikyu, one where volleyball is one of the most team oriented sports around, seeing a manga like this was pretty jarring. But oddly enough, jarring in a good way. BL has so many fun characters, and they all get ample screen time that often you can't tell really who is going to advance. While yeah, like you said, some moments can be pretty edgy and off putting, BL just has a way of making it *work.* BL is overall a fun and interesting time that any sports anime fan should definitely give a shot.
to be honest after reading this and finishing it today i must say the Isagi has the best character development ive seen so far in sports animanga he evolves in eacg and every match, sometimes he has to literally change himself from the roots of his being in order to become the best striker in Blue Lock and the arts suits the manga so well it gives you a sense of immersion
the first time I read this manga I like it since this shows reality you can't just win by having a good bond and trust with your comrade you need to greed more to become number one even Kobe said to aim higher. a lot of shounen manga MC got their dream because of the plot.
Something interesting is that Zlatan, one of the greatest strikers ever, said in a interview that to be a star, you need to a bit egoist. You need to trust in you more than others and try what others deem "bad" for team play.
@@Dazumu The world cup bit is just dumb, he's from Sweden, rofl. But yea, he goes missing in big matches a lot. On the other hand he has 13 leagues and also scored the third most assists and goals combined between 2010 and 2019.
@@Dazumu I mean, in the same way Poland isn't going to win with Lewa a single striker ain't going to do shit so Blue Lock is dead on arrival by that thinking.
what drew me to blue lock is kinda the idea of individuality in sports being primary theme witch as someone who did a more individual sport of cross country I relate to alot more then other sports anime wail with your teem you train together engorge each other during a race even if you try to push each other its you also want to beat them out by the end of it and beat out what you yourself have done in the past aswell as the nevers and anxiety that come with it but their will never be a cross country anime mostly because its not really a thing in japan and id be kinda boring to watch but blue lock has the idea of wail working with the teem to improve but also to beat them out and the teem revolving around the best player also trying to climb up the ranks by beating your your past performance is kinda a simmler feeling it also helps that every charchter is not right in the head
6:20 Yes, it is the wrong sport to display selfishness. But it is also the perfect sport for that. It is wrong from a professional perspective, but these are teens. When kids and teens play, everybody wants to outmaneuver 11 players all on their own. Everybody wants to score. And if they are good, it's ok to be selfish and self-centered. The only player who thinks of the team is probably the goalkeeper, because he cannot shine. Rather he can, but can't take the spotlight from the striker, the one who needs to score and when he scores, is 10 times more memorable then saving a strike.
But even in the pro league ego pointed out an important reason to shine, have an ego: in order to join a team thats already established and has chemistry with the team you have to kick someone off his role by carrying harder
Reading blue lock have been an eye opener for me. Even if it is kind weird sometimes, and also, well, the hisoka vibes dude, i think it helped me a lot during pandemic. I started to look at my surroundings and myself in a diferent light. It really is about creating and building a winner, but, also showing that you need to be able to let go of a lot of shit. Personal shit, family shit, comon sense shit. Haikyuu also has a phrase that makes everything come together, and that is "being good... means being free" and thats only after you put your everything into what you want to acomplish.
Its leadership. most people who can't understand the manga don't understand leadership. most don't. That's why most people aren't leaders or bosses. they have a wrong idea about what leadership is.
Idc what ppl saying...reading Blue Lock make me change my position from defender to a striker...coz u know...we all play sports for the spotlight...they also teach me how to refine my specialty in order to be a good striker...before this i only have speed..but now..i discover i also have a good knuckleball...its almost like my default shooting skill for me...its easier for me to do it instead of a normal one...even my friend is weird why i can do it easily 😅...so basically..Blue Lock change the way i think...if u think u're only that... u're wrong...u just need to know how to work with what u have...i regret playing as a defender n wasted my youth playing that role😂
People that havnt played sport dont know the mental circles you go in trying to get better or trying not to be bad if you catch my drift, i was so obsessed with not fucking up i would almost always pass the ball when i play basketball. If i get a rebound im looking to pass, if i get a pass im looking for an assist, shit really affected me to the point i was doing the same shit in 2k. Mental health the core of sportsmen
Isagi yoichi is one of my favorite sports manga protagonists. The way his personality switches on the field always makes me excited. Him "devouring" his teammates is such a cool thing in the manga and seeing him compete is so entertaining.
10:23 We must be reading different translations because on that bit it says "Shut the fuck up! I'm on a roll right now." Still funny ass lines though. Not to mention the...homoerotic NTR vibes. "You'll have to steal me back." *Wheeze*
I remembered how Isagi on U-20 arc had a very HUGE backlash and bashers both on Twitter and FB. They keep calling him the "main side character" because that arc focused on the Itoshi siblings being like Sasuke and Itachi. It was kind of a joke in the fandom but it went out of hand. Many were so impatient at Isagi's development but honestly, I loved how it's not only the MC is focused in the story (how they think, background story, and etc.), The author gave the readers the opportunity to let us know how they think. Isagi being the only focus would be too "one-sided". Through reading this manga, I was able to realize my lapses as a student and a human in general. It taught me to give myself an opportunity to show off so that I could rise from the ground, independently. It didn't matter if people see me as a "know how" person; why would I be mad at those words when I actually have the potential? Don't hold back, that's what Ego emphasized.
Isagi's ability isnt really individualistic which is the complete anti thesis to every character in the manga. But he forces everyone to make these "chemical reactions" aka trying to make them into some insane combo duo.
its genuinely quite good but it gets really good in the end of the 2nd selection when isagi runs into normal people and you realise hes not just insane
the fact that the manga of blue lock gave me motivation, shows the character of them pushing through no matter what the odds is. And i dont know why people say its edgy or cringe because i infact enjoyed it, i know the manga is only fictional but still it really gives me motivation. (sorry if my english is bad, its late at night and i clicked on the video cuz i'm bored)
This is my first sport manga im reading its dope in contrast to what i normally read. Glad I ventured out and took the chance i like how they remix what ego means and cultivates in a way where it can be symbiotic and still dominate
Really good video, I really like Blue Lock's concept being "ego" the main focus and giving an individualist focus more than the usual teamwork, just a little correction, the artist of Blue Lock is Yusuke Nomura (known for dolly kill kill) and the Story is by Muneyuki Kaneshiro (he's the one who worked on Jagaaaan, not Nomura)
Whelp. Time to re-read Blue Lock. Thanks for covering such a great manga! As a guy who recently got into manga (I've watched anime for years, but I haven't been reading), and who played soccer for almost 10 years, this manga is the perfect fit for me. I hope more people can read it and enjoy it as much as we did!
If people think the dialogue for blue lock is weird I recommend to go find videos of nba and nfl players Mic’d up during games they say just as ridiculous stuff that doesn’t make any sense as trash talk
Blue Lock is currently one of my favorite mangas. Stumbled upon this and started seeing comparisons to Ao Ashi. I get it but Blue Lock is just different. I love it lol
Only really knowing shonen. I knew this manga had me when we’re introduced to a character set up as a traditional “sun” to the main character. However, instead of isagi deciding to cap himself to this person he likes. He chooses himself decides to be the best and instead meets Bachira a true friend who pushes him to not leave each other behind. Having a story subvert to honoring your ego is very interesting and I enjoy every chapter
One reason i really like this manga is that although it feels super unrealistic, it feels super grounded when compared to mangas like knb and inazuma eleven
Not trying to hate the manga or anime, but a few complaints: 1. Japan got 15th place in the 2018 FIFA world cup, a place HIGHER than Argentina, and Lionel Messi was playing the year. 2. The world cup isn't about who's the better nation or anything, it's about different cultures coming together and putting aside their problems to support the players. 3. In this manga, Japan's loss is such a big deal, how do you think Africa feels? We hardly ever qualify for the top 10 stages in the FIFA Cup. No hate or any form of shade...I'm just stating my opinion, man.
You didn't say anything wrong. But that doesn't make anything the manga said wrong either. Also the world cup is about the pride of your nation winning. So it fits in perfectly
I love that (just to me cause I watch a lot of sports anime) it’s low key just edgier kuroko except kuroko never joined the team so it’s just all the generation of miracles as the main focus of being individually a dominant for the story and because I think about what ifs alot I imagined it and thought if told right like blue lock it could be such a great story all the same just my little rant
Blue lock's mentality, although it seems flawed, is the difference between scoring a goal or having an internal dilemma on whether you should pass or not. Blue Lock gives me more dopamine than in 2 years of playmaking.
Hah, funnily enough, I just found out Blue Lock’s on Netflix now. Guess I’ll start there first before getting into the manga and seeing how things changed up.
It sounds like Blue Lock would be a very weird read for anyone with much familiarity with football, such as people who grew up playing it, or come from major footballing countries (such as England, Germany, Brazil, Cameroun, Argentina, Ghana, etc.) . It's easy for a basketball player to buy into the individualism thing given it's only 5 a side. But football is completely different. It's still quite interesting to hear the take of people from the few places where football isn't a very big deal (such as the 2 countries that call it soccer, or ones that barely get through the group stages) because you don't often get to hear what they think of the game. It's like listening to a foreigners opinion about your country after they've taken a shirt vacation there, or seen stuff online. It's not much, but you can still learn from them because of their unique perspective.
I see all exaggeration in sports anime as metaphors for what the characters are going through. You don't have to interpret things a 100% literally when they appear on screen. Of course basketball players don't turn into super saiyans when they get in "the zone". But "the zone" definitely exists in real life, in many different fields.

Blue Lock is a series that I relate to all the more as I grow older. Despite the insanity the series weirdly inspires me to get better and be more selfish (in a good way). I don't know what's the next for the series but I can't wait to read the next chapter.
Devour has a new meaning to me now after Reading it. D E V O U R even your teammates to score
They almost won that was amazing match. I hope more matches like that take place in upcoming WC.
Belgium dodged a lot of bullets in that WC, they should have lost against Japan, and against Brazil as well
I still remember one of the Japanese defender running from one end to other, almost stopping that last goal, then ended up punching the ground wishing he made it
So why did the video creator say they were DESTROYED?
@@investor.z most likely, he doesn't watch football
@@PatriotWidodo There is big difference between btching about someone not passing and outright tackling them to get the ball
You gotta see Initial D then
I'm drawn into this after the philosophy of how you become strong in JJK, like how Gojo was trying to get Megumi to be more ambitious and selfish, and how the only way to reach the peaks of jujutsu is to focus on your own desires and wants and controlling the world around you. It's a new take for shonen, and I think it makes for very fascinating character development
Idk why people r so set in manga being hyper realistic man. Like that’s what makes it fun and interesting. It’s about giving it a twist, and about the possibilities. You gotta have imagination
10:22 I thought isagi said “shut up genius. I’m on a roll.” Like that seems a little more cooler than this other translation
Yeah apparently there's a couple translations for certain scenes
@@bol8122 exactly.
Gojo from JJK explains this sometimes much needed mentality perfectly when he’s schooling Megumi about why he’s not reaching his full potential.
True but also ofc with having an ego you should also have the skills set to back it up
@@abraham4853 very very true. no point in pride if you can never back it up.
@@SensitiveSavage dark =/= edgy bro

Blue Lock had me addicted to seeing Isagi's way of constantly evolving and pulling is own against some of the craziest competition I've seen in sports manga. I highly recommend anyone who loves sports manga to give this one a try for sure :)
All I’ve heard about this series prior is that people either really love this series or don’t vibe with the concept at all. I totally get why people would think the latter after hearing about the type of players on this team but honestly this got me more intrigued to check this out when the anime drops, as much as I like my Haikyu style sports anime (which I’m guessing Ao Ashi is gonna be like)
ao ashi is more like that yeah
Yeah at first I didn't really like the concept of the manga. I play football and it isn't representative of the sport as far as a 1 to 1 manga adaptation. I myself is a forward position player but I don't really vibe with how football here is represented. But it is still very entertaining for me to read especially with its very unorthodox take on sports manga. Especially with the development of Isagi throughout the series. Also I would reccommend 'Be Blues!' which is also a football manga that is in the "Haikyu style sports anime".
I definitely vibed with the storyline, me being egotistical and all, but damn, the size of the character's eyes took me some getting used to 😅
@@bigfootrobot2115 what r u high? cuz there are only 20ish chapters anything related to romcom out 304, just spreading hate and misleading ppl jeez
Honestly LOVING this style/tone of content.
Blue Lock really reinforces the fact that in every team-based sport, there will always be a "team carry" in one way or another.
Because every should have that one person that is not afraid of big moments, someone who is noy afraid taking the last shot
My favorite manga by far. Physicals are coming out this summer!
Thank you dude. You sold this series to me, and I really identify with your arguments. To me the brilliance of anime and manga is the possibility to go beyond whats humanly capable or realistic to convey a message in an intensity otherwise unreachable.

The ego part of blue lock is actually not bad and made me realise that a lot of players have a lot of ego, ego that allows them to be the best in the world. So its not bad in that aspect.
I freaking love Blue Lock

But even in the pro league ego pointed out an important reason to shine, have an ego: in order to join a team thats already established and has chemistry with the team you have to kick someone off his role by carrying harder
strikers dont always equal best player a lot of kids dream of being a number 10
Reading blue lock have been an eye opener for me. Even if it is kind weird sometimes, and also, well, the hisoka vibes dude, i think it helped me a lot during pandemic. I started to look at my surroundings and myself in a diferent light. It really is about creating and building a winner, but, also showing that you need to be able to let go of a lot of shit. Personal shit, family shit, comon sense shit. Haikyuu also has a phrase that makes everything come together, and that is "being good... means being free" and thats only after you put your everything into what you want to acomplish.
Hahahaha hisoka vibes what i tought "Hisoka's nephew"
Ah, the good old individuality -porn- escapism that the standard -suffocated by a collectivist society- Japanese reader seems to love 😁
Pretty good description of this style of writing tbh

Isagi yoichi is one of my favorite sports manga protagonists. The way his personality switches on the field always makes me excited. Him "devouring" his teammates is such a cool thing in the manga and seeing him compete is so entertaining.

We must be reading different translations because on that bit it says "Shut the fuck up! I'm on a roll right now." Still funny ass lines though. Not to mention the...homoerotic NTR vibes. "You'll have to steal me back." *Wheeze*
I enjoy wholesome stuff, doesn't mean I don't enjoy edgy stuff! Blue lock is just enjoyable to read
If u played a sport Irl, U will enjoy blue lock
Agreed
Never heard of this manga until now, but I vibe with this MJ/Kobe mentality that it seems to display. Thanks for the recommendation
its genuinely quite good but it gets really good in the end of the 2nd selection when isagi runs into normal people and you realise hes not just insane
the fact that the manga of blue lock gave me motivation, shows the character of them pushing through no matter what the odds is.
If you read the book relentless by the coach who trained Michael Jordan and a few others, you would be inclined to agree.
I feel attacked 😂 you stating how the MC operates with his fútbol; is how I operate in life 😅
Blue Lock is peak bro
Nice to see fellow ronin doing their thing, killing it. Have a great one dude.
Not trying to hate the manga or anime, but a few complaints:
Wow first off great video & high asf rn, also the Kobe MJ comparison makes perfect sense, definitely finna give this a read.
Makes me wish this was real because Japan needs this program to make elite soccer players
Blue lock's mentality, although it seems flawed, is the difference between scoring a goal or having an internal dilemma on whether you should pass or not. Blue Lock gives me more dopamine than in 2 years of playmaking.
I love that you love Shidou💀💯
Man, this one video convinced me into checking out Blue Lock.
I'm happy to hear that, I hope you enjoy the series
Hah, funnily enough, I just found out Blue Lock’s on Netflix now. Guess I’ll start there first before getting into the manga and seeing how things changed up.
When I watched the trailer, I wasn't hyped for this. It looked boring or just not for me. Now I have another show to watch this season. Thanks
shidou Riyusi- "the homo-erotic, and violent super talent" perfect description of him honestly xD LoL
Love your work!! Thanks
ANIME OUT NOW
I see all exaggeration in sports anime as metaphors for what the characters are going through.
You don't have to interpret things a 100% literally when they appear on screen.
Of course basketball players don't turn into super saiyans when they get in "the zone". But "the zone" definitely exists in real life, in many different fields.
This is my 2nd most fav manga
Its so good i just hope 8BIT doesnt ruin it
