I usually when I split up Germany I keep some of the bigger states from past while still adding something new like a central German union, or Holstein being independent, or Bavaria keeps Tyrol, stuff like that
You make another layer You drag it below the map You fill the outsides of the map with gray You go on the layer below You put the flag You merge the layers You make the rest of the area blank
Ok so since I’m bored I’m just gonna make an quick alternate timeline: It’s 1980 in the midst of the Cold War 1980 the Premier of the USSR dies putting an less stalinized man in charge 1981 the many pro democratic protest would use this and begin protesting all over the eastern block 1984 after huge protests and often even revolts East Germany manages to leave the Eastern Bloc and Warsaw Pact 1985 Poland did not go that easily as this time tanks and the military of the USSR began countering them 1987 Still after 2 years they did not stop protesting beginning the Polish war for Independence With Germany and Czechoslovakian Revolts 1990 After huge fighting the USSR finally gives in and as a thanks for their help Germany and Czechoslovakia gain some lands 1992 Altought managing to hold on 1 year more the Ussr collapses 1998 A second Great Depression would hit the world putting unrest to many country The Benelux to survive this decide to unite into the UPB or United Provinces of the Benelux 2000 Many German states declare independence with Prussia being the first to go 2001 instead of breaking apart A-H would be reformed this time giving equal rights to everyone in it 2003 Communism becomes favorable again beginning both the French and Yugoslav Civil War 2006 altought heavily hit the Great Depression fates out again and altought peace was restored damage has already been done 2010: in 2010 both Catalonia and Aragon declare Independence as Spain is still weakened from the Great Depression
