@Volunteers4awesome Hate to tell you, Alex rarely uses wooden bows. His primary bows are all Glasser bows (composite). I know this because Alex is my violin teacher, and played for my brother's wedding.
The violin is physically one of the most difficult instruments to play..PERIOD. There is no faking it on a violin like you can on some other instruments that much more popular.. You can either play one or you can't. But these guys make it look so easy.
This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! I am actually a guitar freak, and I am a big fan of Steve Vai. See 5:23, that's the song where Steve Vai had a duel with Ralph Machio in the movie "Crossroads (1986)"
@tlkirwan Please tell us some more about your teacher. What is his training and how did he end up doing this crossover thing, which I love by the way, one of my youtube favorites. Are there any videos of him doing straight classical? I'd love to see one of those.
This song is actually an excerpt from a piece he did on his sound theories. Some of it is improv but the bulk of it is from Frangelica I believe. I could be wrong on that song though.
It's called APPLES IN PARADISE and can be found on the DVD/BluRay album "Where the Wild Things Are" by Steve Vai. Apparently, it's original to Steve Vai and this video.
@Eyewash03 if you like that check out ennio morricone - al capone (from untouchables soundtrack) and Poverty (from once upon a time in america soundtrack) Those two pieces use the same or similar scale as alex depue's breakdown trust me if you will like them!
@PlanetHell Its a few different pieces of which I can't think of the names at the moment. But the composer's name of a few of them is Paganini. Its rumored that he composed pieces purposely to mess with some of his violin playing friends by making them as difficult to play as he possibly could. lol
Does anybody know the title to the piece she played at this past Oscars, the Bumper-Out music played just after Best Supporting Actress (I think), w/ the heavy drum beat?
Steve should work with Alexander Markov instead. He’s famous for playing Paganini and he premiered a Rock Concerto for electric violin. He’s got a long hair rock star image too, so the marketing shouldn’t be a problem.
May Alex DePue rest in peace, having been taken long before his time by a driving accident in Mexico on Jan 27th, 2022. You are missed, Alex.
This was Steve Vai's best tour, and absolute best line up of supporting musicians. And, Goddess... "Ann Marie Calhoun!" Nothing more need be said!
Rest In Peace Alex 🙏♥️😢
Wow, what a waste
She is absolutely STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL ! ! ! ! ! !
I'm proud to call Mr. Alex DePue a friend !!

Orgasmic. Shame it ends just before her incredibly delicate intro to All About Eve.
@SinXPeace and that fragment of the crossroads duel is based on the capriccio 5 of Paganini...
that is the most cooles thing i have ever heard
Hm. That part reminds me of Yngwie Malmsteen - "As Above, So Below", the part where he sings comes to my mind.. :)
Alex is a badass
