Hi! As someone new to lithops, I really enjoy watching these. When I’m planting in a loose medium like gritty mix, I roll up a piece of card stock into a cone, adjust the width to fit the plant with the roots at the tip of the cone, then I push the cone into the medium to the depth I want, place the plant inside, then slowly let the cone open up, and remove from around your plant. The plant will drop right in, and the potting media will fall in around the roots.
You can do a gritty mix which has a mixture of tree bark, porous rock, such as pumice, and something called turface. It helps to hold water but also drain quickly. Pumice is quite similar. With lithops you want something that is going to be quick draining because itll help you avoid root rot. While you can still overwater your lithop with this it makes it much more difficult to do so than with regular cactus or succulent soil you might find at your local hardware store.
Lithops do not like soil that retains water. If they are planted in this type of soil then they will likely explode from too much water. Lithops do not have an off switch when it comes to absorbing water. Therefore you have to learn your plants so that you water them appropriately.

Is there an update on these guys? How did they end up?
Any update on the plants yet ???
I'm new to lithops. You don't plant them in dirt soil, just a pumice stone?

The etiolating Lithops should survive if you give them the right amount of light, once they shed HOPEFULLY the new leaves underneath are much shorter.
