There are also various ways to self rez in quest. Jack jibbers blade is a clicky you can use while dead to rez self for 1 min which will usually let you reach a shrine
HAH! Another caught by the DDO-fevah! Glad you are enjoying the learning process. It's probably been mentioned already, but the DDO Wiki is super useful to have up as you play. Or read it over coffee. There are layers and layers to uncover. You certainly noticed that the game starter area does not go into essential, even vital, topics clearly or even at all. Here's another. What's the DDO "Endgame" then? Level cap? (Currently 34) like other games? Nope! DDO is unique in that it is a "Revolving Past Lives" endgame. This is no where mentioned in the starter info. Don't stress about rolling up new characters (28 point builds usually) as once you hit LEVEL 20 you have the option to "True Resurrect" that same character. You keep all your gear (goes into a new bank called a TRCache) you choose to go back to the beginning, and restart your Heroic (1-20) levelling but you gain a small permanent improvement (choose racial Past Life benefit or Class one) as well as more build points 28> 32> 34> up to 36 from then on. You can choose any new class/race combo. Try a Trapping build! Be a Cleric! Same character, save your progress. THAT is the actual DDO Endgame, which people have been working on for 18 years now for some. Don't stress. Learn and progress! ddowiki.com/page/Reincarnation
I am a play from the start at the game. But had like 7 years break from the game. But I have a brother who played from the time it went free and still does. So when I came back he told me that you can have more that one account, i just need to have a different mailbox, (ps Lord of the rings as far as remember u can’t use that mail to). Bit just with 2 accounts you can have both going into the same dungeon as a party, that means better chances to survive. I would park one at the door and go and explore with the main. Ps because of traps it is always good to have one lvl in a class that can spot them, and even better disabling them also. Ps your character can choose to combine 3 different class on your character. Ps as player from the really old ddo time before u could hire npc to go with u in a dungeon. At the time when was really hard to solo. I made character that started with one lvl thief and the ranger, and soloed with that build.
For me, as a D&D player, this class and build complexity is exactly what draws me to the game (and why I don't really like Neverwinter MMO). I wouldn't have it any other way xd
Once you get high enough you can have hirelings with a res. If you feel like you're in danger you can just leave them sitting at the entrance and then summon them to res you if you do die.
Regarding dying... Jack Jibbers is your friend here, it's a super rare drop from a epic level quest but it's there. Hirelings have the ability to cast spells to get you back on your feet (Raise Dead and Resurrection respectively). Regarding Rust Monsters and Ooze/Slimes... you have a few choices here. You can use a ranged weapon which will not break since you are shooting at them. If you want to melee them then use a weapon with either a material type of either Blueshine (rare drop in random loot) or Crystal (Feywild Ferrocrystal weapons work for this as far as I know). These are immune to damage from those monster types specifically. In addition handwrap users are also immune to damage from these monsters too.
"Hand holding" in newer games is one of the reasons I got back on DDO, plus I kinda love the complexity of character min-maxing. Really hate the ransack on chests though. Why make me wait days to run for a piece of gear?......That's what I want to do, and it's keeping me playing your game.
Downloading and installing the game and then starting it with all the client/direct x problems is the first real barrier. They really have to fix that!
a tip for you: make an extra hotbar and put them like on the top or side, and place your collectables or quest items there, these are there for you quickly see or click that wont interfere with your normal play bars e.g. mission only slave - since you lose the item upon leaving the quest have it on so you don't need to locate it over and over again to use components - from spell components to thief tools having it on this bar will inform you when you should restock bags - this is more for epic levels, each time you get your rewards from mission the "letters" will not auto collect into the bags, have just 1 in your hot bar to quiclky open and collect them all
One trap a lot of people (myself included) fall into: If you die in a quest, it's easy to think that the only option is to pay money to buy a cake, or release. But this actually isn't entirely the case (most times anyhow). Once you leave a dungeon, the instance will remain open for five minutes before reset. So, you may reenter the quest and continue, at the cost of an xp penalty. It does suck to lose xp, but the quest isn't entirely over yet! Keep in mind this doesn't work in reaper mode, as reaper does not allow reentry. But it's good to keep in mind! Sadly it's yet another thing DDO doesn't tell you.
each time i play DDO i pretty much always stop at the final boss of the temple of elemental evil since even tho i know the strat i always seem to crit like crazy and phase the boss tice in a row and i dont have time to get out the way which reminds me of the xp i lose if i do it on the 2nd try and not the first
This is a very true video. I love this game. I have been playing for years and have run all the low level stuff over a hundred times. Tell me what you want in a newbie guide? There are a few older guides around and I saw Axel is making a new one but his seems basic. How about: Here are the ways to build a basic caster a basic melee and a basic range and then a list of the quests you should not miss on the way to 20.

Just like Lotro, there is a Wiki for DDO

Or you could just have your hire pick up your soulstone and run you to a shrine assuming the game doesn't dc your from lag.

The worst dungeons to lag in are the ones with platforming and elevator mechanics. Rage inducing. XD
