My rankings are; 1. Hürrem and Kösem. They are equal because they are both powerful and strong, Intelligent, and Quick-witted. Although in terms of Power Kösem is the one more powerful. Since during her reign she has more influence. But Hürrem, started the Era. "The Sultanate of Women". Where Sultanas are more powerful than Sultans. This shows that Hürrem is really an exception. 2. Mihrihmah Sultan. She is really like her Mother. Strong, Independent, Powerful, and Smart. She became a Valide Sultan even if she was just a sister of Selim. The first official valide sultan was nurbanu, this title was officiated by selim for nurbanu during his reign Making her the first and only sultana to hold both titles haseki and valide at the same time , mihrimah had the title "kadin" which means ruler of the harem but nurbanu also had this title which means they ruled the harem together during the reign of selim (early years of his reign because mihrimah got sick and then left)
Hurrem ISNT the strongest in the show, and she ISNT in the strongest in history also. Her only achievement is marrying a sultan, but without him she didn't have any power + the army and ottoman people didn't like her
+ she didn't play any role in the ottoman Empire/society
Here are the most powerful sultanas according to historians and thier achievements/status :
1 kosem : haseki sultan (favorite of the sultan) , legal of wife of the sultan (ahmed) , valide sultan 3 times (for 2 of her sons and her grandson) ,
Royal regent for 30 years, she literally ruled the empire for 30+ years, she was loved and supported by both the people and the army and the government (divan) because she was able to depose 4 sultans (osman, mustafa, murad, ibrahim)
The wealthiest Sultana because she OWNED the ottoman economy and treasury and foreign trade and it's been said that she used to have a necklace of pearls given to her by Ahmed (her husband the sultan) that was EQUALLY worth as much as the ottoman treasury , most charitable sultana , she was the first and the last Buyuk valide sultan (grand valide sultan) because she was his Regent despite his mother turhan being alive. Turhan was given title "valide segir" (small valide) while kosem got "valide kebir" (great/big mother sultan) for 3 years
2 turhan : longest valide sultan for 33 years, was loved by her son and the ottoman divan (government) , royal regent for 8 years (ruled the empire) , she was the only women to have EQUAL power to a living sultan LEGALLY (her son Mehmet) , most merciful sultana
3 Nurbanu : legal wife of the sultan (selim) , haseki sultan (favorite) , the FIRST official valide sultan in ottoman history, she was the first woman to make title "valide sultan" a political title that have authority because during the reign of selim after he married nurbanu he officiated and legalized title valide sultan for her,before her the mothers of the sultan were called "valide hatun" or just "valide".
Also nurbanu is the only sultan to hold both titles of haseki (favorite) and valide sultan at the same time + she was the first to move to the topkapi Palace (centre of power of the empire close to the government and the capital) where she observed more power , she was also the first co-regent to her husband and especially her son and according to ottoman and venetian historians, nurbanu sultan is the founder of the sultanate of women because she was the first to actually to " rule" through her son by becoming valide sultan
4 safiye : haseki, valide sultan, one of the wealthiest, one of the most lived (through the reign of 8 sultans from Suleiman to osman/murad) she had great influence through her son
5 rabia sultan : she came after turhan and she was raised by kosem's daughters to challenge turhan as a way of revenge and she succeed as she made the sultan go against his mother many times and she was extremely powerful as valide(2 times) and co-regent
6 naksidill : she was the consort of gulnus's grandson . She was the only sultana to be wed to 2 different sultans, she was a Regent (only kosem and turhan achieved the Regent status) she was valide sultan 2 times and the last powerful sultana
7 handan : haseki sultan and valide sultan and unofficial regent to her son for 2 years
8 halime : she was the first sultana to be become valide sultan 2 times for the same son, first sultana to actually rule instead of her son because he was insane. But her reign lasted for just 4 years
9 hafsa sultan : valide hatun, haseki sultan, very rich and influential
10 hurrem : haseki sultan (favorite) , legal wife of the sultan (Suleiman)
And that's it, she didn't have titles, she didn't change history, she didn't have influence or authority, she didn't achieve anything significant, she didn't contribute to the ottoman empire and she wasn't liked by the ottoman people, or the council (divan), or the army, they used to call her the Russian witch.
Only Suleiman loved her and that was it, she was pretty much a housewife, the only "remembered" thing she did was writing letters to the king of Poland IN THE NAME OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE (which means Suleiman already saw those letters + all the other sultanas that came after her wrote to other foreign monarch, safiye wrote to Elizabeth the 1st of England, nurbanu wrote to Catharine de medici of France , kosem wrote to almost every neighbor of the ottoman Empire and so on...) , oh and Suleiman also took her advice, SOMETIMES..
11 mihrimah/fatma/ayse/geverhan (kosem's daughters) : powerful imperial princesses, one of the richest sultanas,
Mihrimah ruled the harem as "sadin" alongside nurbanu during the reign of her brother selim until murad ascended where she was sent to the old palace
And kosem's daughters were all married to powerful statesmen and they themselves were extremely rich and influential especially during the reign of Murad 1st and Thierry mother's Regency.
