Iris breaks Barry down, Caitlin gives him strength. She keeps the good in him alive while everything tries to kill it. And when everyone treated him like a pariah and wanted nothing to do with him, she was beside him No matter what.
Barry was never broken down or weakened by Iris. She wasn't the one chasing after him because she was deeply in love with Eddie Thawn. And Barry always saw Eddie as a threat of taking Iris away from him(which is the reason for his jealous rage and fight with Eddie when he was affected by one of the metas) Then Barry started going after Iris even after she told him she was with Eddie and wasn't interested in having a serious and romantic relationship with him. But Barry's heart always belonged to Iris, but Iris wanted to be sure about her own feelings for Barry only after Eddie Thawn died. (Eddie planned to propose to Iris on the bridge when he was kidnapped by the Reverse Flash) Then Flashpoint happened and Eddie was taken away. Iris grieved for Eddie's death and pushed Barry away. But it was Barry who kept trying to reach out to Iris (Not Caitlin Snow) to get her to over come her grief and not continue to close herself off from falling in love again. Barry even made a video of Eddie expressing how much Iris meant to him and finally gave it to Iris as a way to comfort her in her grief after his death. So how is it Iris is being Shoved down any body's throat? If Barry really wanted Caitlin instead of Iris he had every opportunity to pursue her (to every extreme) instead of always looking for a way to see or be with Iris West. He even made that clear to Iris when he sat with her and told her that he would ALWAYS BE THERE FOR HER. HOWEVER, WHERE WAS BARRY WHEN CAITLIN DIED AND CISCO, HR WELLS, AND JULIAN COULDN'T REVIVE HER? AND WHY DID BARRY TELL CAITLIN TO STOP TREATING HIM LIKE RONNIE(Again proving she was not in love with Barry) and wasn't at all interested in becoming Ronnie's replacement. Also, why did Barry pursue Felicity, Linda Parks and Patty Spivot if he was all that interested in Caitlin Snow? Barry was so happy he was finally getting to marry the girl of his dreams that even at the alter he couldn't stop smiling. He was overjoyed when Iris said yes. Because he wasn't always sure she would because of Wally's discovery when he was vibed to the future and saw Iris's hand and she wasn't wearing Barry's engagement ring. And because Barry rushed her into marrying him out of "FEAR" and not "LOVE" because he was too consumed with losing her and proposed to her because of it. He wanted to go to any extreme to save Iris because she meant everything to him..Certain fans wanted to see Iris be killed off. So the writers gave them what they wanted when Savitar killed her which destroyed Barry. Even after 25 years after Iris's death, Barry Allen was still grieving over losing Iris West-Allen because she was the love of his life. And by the way, Barry also laughed when HR died. Not just Iris. Barry also couldn't wait to hold Iris once he saw that she was alive and well. Their marriage was inevitable because they had so many things thrown at them to challenge their love for eachother and they over came them all..

So yes..she made him laugh and the rest of their comedic story still goes on..
Cait is always there for him. Even when Barry came back from flashpoint, she was still the same when everyone was different. They support each other through everything and even from the beginning they had a connection. When fake Barry and Cait kissed, even though it wasn’t really Barry, they still had some sort of connection. They risk their lives for each other but then he ends up with Iris not Cait.
Both these actors have great chemistry with each other. Its a shame we haven't had many Barry and Caitlin scenes in season 3 but I think thats because the chemistry Grant and Danielle has blows the Iris and Barry out of the water and season 3 was the Barry and Iris show. Iris exists only to be Barrys love interest and nothing else. She has no personality, no development and doesn't bring anything to team Flash. So hoping for Barry and Caitlin. It just makes more sense and seems more natural. But obviously thats unlikely to happen since the writers seem to be set on Barry and Iris. Dull.

You all have the same general dislike for Iris because you dislike the current long standing ship between Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen. People have always complained about this iconic couple since Barry made his choice to pursue Iris West known to his Flash team and to Iris's father Det. Joe West, despite the negative feedback and criticisms they received. Grant Gustin wanted Candice Patten in the role as Iris West, because he said this during an interview at the beginning of the pilot season. Danielle Penabaker was not even considered as a possible love interest for Barry Allen, period. And Candice Patton has had to prove to her viewing fans that she could pull off the leading role as Iris West and she has do so gracefully. What ever was written in her script to follow she followed it because she wanted people to know that her love is for the Flash, not for Grant Gustin only. They were friends and through their friendship became close because they have to work together and work to make each scene work out and promote the show through their guest appearances on other talk shows and at Comic Con, etc. But like you, people don't or can't separate the role Candice Patton plays as Iris West-Allen from her character on the CW's The Flash series and bash her for everything from being black to being an after thought on Barry's mind because the :(fans of Danielle's character Caitlin Snow) fantasize about Barry having greater chemistry and a stronger connection to Caitlin than with Iris. Much of the criticisms stem from personal prejudices and inner insecurities about why a black female was chosen to play in the lead role instead of the general stereotypes(white female with blond hair and blue eyes). I actually kinda liked Iris in season one, and when Iris was dating Eddie, I thought they looked amazing together and still do to this day, and I really wish he was still alive. The main reasons I hate the west allen relationship is because I myself feel that A), Iris only loves him for what he is rather than who he is and only wants to be with him because he is the flash and not as Barry, B) they come across as more of a brotherly sisterly bond (even though technically they are legally allowed to marry, it still feels morally weird. If I were to date my step sister, I probably would be in a lot of strife myself), C) I hate how Iris has been set up as a character (and I am not saying that because I hate the actress, I think Candice is an amazing actress, similarly to how I hate king joffrey but I like Jack Gleeson), nor does she grow much as a character. ; I hate how she is downright disrespectful and arrogant. In 4x01, she was going around acting like he was dead while in the speed force, essentially giving up on him ("How are you certain Barry is still alive"), then when he does come back, she looks disappointed at what he has become (insane), THEN acts as like "OMG I never gave up on you" when he is back to his usual self. It just feels like Iris can only love him when he is at his best, when he is capable of saving the world and not in a mess, that is not unconditional love. 4x02, when caitlin tries to offer advice, Iris responds "yeah well [Barry] is gonna have to get used to the new dynamics around here" and "we dont need therapy, we are barry and iris" in a sarcastic undertone that not only implied that her relationship is perfect (which anyone with half a brain could see it clearly wasn't), but she boasted that her relationship was better than any of caitlins relationships. "Then how could you leave me Barry? You just left me Barry, you left me, alone" pisses me off so much, its like she doesnt care of the repercussions if Barry didnt go into the speed force, nor understands the responsibilities that Barry feels, or how Barry feels in general for that matter. She is too self absorbed in him not being there for her when in reality she still had people around her unlike Barry where he truly was alone for 6 months. She blamed him for something that is, quite frankly, not his fault. It feels like all Iris cares about is dating, regardless of the situation. 2x23, Barry is struggling to come to terms with dealing with his Dads, and instead of Iris being there as support, she turns around and says, "idk Barry, you'll have to figure out a way before it tears you apart", offering useless advice, then further in the episode, "you've lost a lot in this life Barry ... But maybe you and I should try this out, see where this thing goes" during a time where Barry is grieving for his Dad. Instead of respecting his space or trying to help through his tough times, she wants to go on a date, and Barry rightfully declines, "I feel so hollow inside ... I need to fix what is wrong with me". The sad part is, shes known him since a kid and cannot even help out in the slightest. 3x23, Barry, Iris and Jo are all cool with someone else other than Iris dying. This is a dig at all 3 of them, thats just so munted, like, HR was basically a disposable character that they just tossed aside without a care in the world, damn you Barry, thats just shameful. I really wish I could like Iris as a character, season 1 showed so much potential and it all just went downhill. Irises character arc is virtually nonexistent, besides being a love interest for the main hero then being forced into leadership of team flash (which they were doing just fine before Iris came along, its almost insulting to see someone with Ciscos and caitlins intelligence and Barry's experience on the field to be getting bossed around by someone not nearly as skilled/equipped/qualified to do). She was at her best when she was a journalist in season 1, if they continued her arc there and if the writers put in time and effort to develop her character, she might be more likable as a character. Sure, Barry has his major flaws, most notable in season 3 when he basically forgot about everyone else and only focused on saving Iris when caitlin has been healing his injuries for years and when she finally needs help with training/controlling her powers they are too busy elsewhere. The only one redeeming quality that I actually liked about Iris was during 4x16, when after she returned Barry's speed, she realised just how difficult it was to be on the field and actually gained an appreciation for what Barry does, but even then it was a few minutes of Iris actually being a good character, when earlier that episode she take his speed, she rubbed it in shown by "wow running on water is Soo fun" and "This is amazing" in front of Barrys face. A few minutes worth in over 100 episodes does not redeem her overall poorly written character. I would love to know why like the WestAllen relationship, help me understand, because so far the only real arguments I see from you is that people are "PEOPLE HUNG UP ON ANOTHER PERSON'S SKIN COMPLEXION, RACE SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS, AND POLITICAL AFFILIATION AND RELIGIOUS PREFERENCES SO THAT PEOPLE ARE MORE DIVIDED AND MISGUIDED ABOUT OTHER CLASSES OF PEOPLE", which to me almost sounds like you are the racist one, wanting Barry to be with Iris because of her colour and ethnic background rather than her being an actual character. Wait, so at 7:07, that's actually really cute because if Caitlin thinks it's Barry, and she's kissing him back, then that means that she is really enjoying it and possibly wants to be with him. That's actually crazy, because this shows that Caitlin really enjoyed that.
I saw potential in Barry and Caitlin from the first episode. They could relate to each other, because Barry lost his mother and Caitlin lost her husband. They could help each other deal with their grief and find a new type of happiness with each other. I wish they'd get together.
Those little conversations, interactions, eye contacts between Barry and Caitlin is just awesome, Iris and Barry can be siblings upmost. Even Patty was better than Iris.

They have been extremely upset by the WEST-ALLEN dynamic that went from Iris and Eddie to Barry and Iris after Eddie died.. While Iris was mourning for the death of Eddie Thawn, Barry Allen saw it as the PERFECT OPPORTUNITY to make his move towards getting Iris to think about him instead of continuing to close herself off and not open herself up again to the POSSIBILITY of FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN. And Barry wanted to make sure that He was Iris's choice when the time came..
I wish the writers would have given them a chance. I totally ship it. No offense to Iris and all. See this is why I think. Barry loves Iris but he's IN love with Caitlyn and that's not gonna change. Even tho in season 3 Barry and Iris are getting married, I think that is a HUGE mistake. I'm sorry for all the westallen shippers but I can't help but think of all the what ifs, if Caitlyn and Barry we're together. Caitlyn wouldn't have gone through the pain of loosing Jay because she would have been with Barry and she would be happy. She wouldn't have became Killer Frost because Iris loving Barry wasn't enough for him so he went and fucked the timeline even more from creating Flashpoint. Caitlyn IS enough for him and you can see that.

Barry was never broken down or weakened by Iris. She wasn't the one chasing after him because she was deeply in love with Eddie Thawn. And Barry always saw Eddie as a threat of taking Iris away from him(which is the reason for his jealous rage and fight with Eddie when he was affected by one of the metas) Then Barry started going after Iris even after she told him she was with Eddie and wasn't interested in having a serious and romantic relationship with him. But Barry's heart always belonged to Iris, but Iris wanted to be sure about her own feelings for Barry only after Eddie Thawn died. (Eddie planned to propose to Iris on the bridge when he was kidnapped by the Reverse Flash) Then Flashpoint happened and Eddie was taken away. Iris grieved for Eddie's death and pushed Barry away. But it was Barry who kept trying to reach out to Iris (Not Caitlin Snow) to get her to over come her grief and not continue to close herself off from falling in love again. Barry even made a video of Eddie expressing how much Iris meant to him and finally gave it to Iris as a way to comfort her in her grief after his death. So how is it Iris is being Shoved down any body's throat? If Barry really wanted Caitlin instead of Iris he had every opportunity to pursue her (to every extreme) instead of always looking for a way to see or be with Iris West. He even made that clear to Iris when he sat with her and told her that he would ALWAYS BE THERE FOR HER. HOWEVER, WHERE WAS BARRY WHEN CAITLIN DIED AND CISCO, HR WELLS, AND JULIAN COULDN'T REVIVE HER? AND WHY DID BARRY TELL CAITLIN TO STOP TREATING HIM LIKE RONNIE(Again proving she was not in love with Barry) and wasn't at all interested in becoming Ronnie's replacement. Also, why did Barry pursue Felicity, Linda Parks and Patty Spivot if he was all that interested in Caitlin Snow? The event of Barry and Iris's wedding was a planned event and not "forced". Barry was so happy he was finally getting to marry the girl of his dreams that even at the alter he couldn't stop smiling. He was overjoyed when Iris said yes. Because he wasn't always sure she would because of Wally's discovery when he was vibed to the future and saw Iris's hand and she wasn't wearing Barry's engagement ring. And because Barry rushed her into marrying him out of "FEAR" and not "LOVE" because he was too consumed with losing her and proposed to her because of it. He wanted to go to any extreme to save Iris because she meant everything to him..Certain fans wanted to see Iris be killed off. So the writers gave them what they wanted when Savitar killed her which destroyed Barry. Even after 25 years after Iris's death, Barry Allen was still grieving over losing Iris West-Allen because she was the love of his life. And by the way, Barry also laughed when HR died. Not just Iris. Barry also couldn't wait to hold Iris once he saw that she was alive and well. Their marriage was inevitable because they had so many things thrown at them to challenge their love for eachother and they over came them all..

Besides finding her someone he could exercise his comedic antics with, there was an instant "connection" and a relaxed feeling he got being with her which made rehearsing their lines together feel comfortable and easy.
So yes..she made him laugh and the rest of their comedic story still goes on..
Cait is always there for him. Even when Barry came back from flashpoint, she was still the same when everyone was different. They support each other through everything and even from the beginning they had a connection. When fake Barry and Cait kissed, even though it wasn’t really Barry, they still had some sort of connection. They risk their lives for each other but then he ends up with Iris not Cait.
Both these actors have great chemistry with each other. Its a shame we haven't had many Barry and Caitlin scenes in season 3 but I think thats because the chemistry Grant and Danielle has blows the Iris and Barry out of the water and season 3 was the Barry and Iris show. Iris exists only to be Barrys love interest and nothing else. She has no personality, no development and doesn't bring anything to team Flash. So hoping for Barry and Caitlin. It just makes more sense and seems more natural. But obviously thats unlikely to happen since the writers seem to be set on Barry and Iris. Dull.

Appreciate your reply but on what do you really base your opinion on? I've checked these replies and people don't differ on here. You all have the same general dislike for Iris because you dislike the current long standing ship between Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen. People have always complained about this iconic couple since Barry made his choice to pursue Iris West known to his Flash team and to Iris's father Det. Joe West, despite the negative feedback and criticisms they received. Grant Gustin wanted Candice Patten in the role as Iris West, because he said this during an interview at the beginning of the pilot season. Danielle Penabaker was not even considered as a possible love interest for Barry Allen, period. And Candice Patton has had to prove to her viewing fans that she could pull off the leading role as Iris West and she has do so gracefully. What ever was written in her script to follow she followed it because she wanted people to know that her love is for the Flash, not for Grant Gustin only. They were friends and through their friendship became close because they have to work together and work to make each scene work out and promote the show through their guest appearances on other talk shows and at Comic Con, etc. But like you, people don't or can't separate the role Candice Patton plays as Iris West-Allen from her character on the CW's The Flash series and bash her for everything from being black to being an after thought on Barry's mind because the :(fans of Danielle's character Caitlin Snow) fantasize about Barry having greater chemistry and a stronger connection to Caitlin than with Iris. Much of the criticisms stem from personal prejudices and inner insecurities about why a black female was chosen to play in the lead role instead of the general stereotypes(white female with blond hair and blue eyes).
But for all the negativity, Candice is still proving her strength, courage and tenacity in her willingness to take on this controversial role and make it her own..

I actually kinda liked Iris in season one, and when Iris was dating Eddie, I thought they looked amazing together and still do to this day, and I really wish he was still alive. The main reasons I hate the west allen relationship is because I myself feel that
A), Iris only loves him for what he is rather than who he is and only wants to be with him because he is the flash and not as Barry,
B) they come across as more of a brotherly sisterly bond (even though technically they are legally allowed to marry, it still feels morally weird. If I were to date my step sister, I probably would be in a lot of strife myself),
C) I hate how Iris has been set up as a character (and I am not saying that because I hate the actress, I think Candice is an amazing actress, similarly to how I hate king joffrey but I like Jack Gleeson), nor does she grow much as a character. ;
I hate how she is downright disrespectful and arrogant. In 4x01, she was going around acting like he was dead while in the speed force, essentially giving up on him ("How are you certain Barry is still alive"), then when he does come back, she looks disappointed at what he has become (insane), THEN acts as like "OMG I never gave up on you" when he is back to his usual self. It just feels like Iris can only love him when he is at his best, when he is capable of saving the world and not in a mess, that is not unconditional love. 4x02, when caitlin tries to offer advice, Iris responds "yeah well [Barry] is gonna have to get used to the new dynamics around here" and "we dont need therapy, we are barry and iris" in a sarcastic undertone that not only implied that her relationship is perfect (which anyone with half a brain could see it clearly wasn't), but she boasted that her relationship was better than any of caitlins relationships. "Then how could you leave me Barry? You just left me Barry, you left me, alone" pisses me off so much, its like she doesnt care of the repercussions if Barry didnt go into the speed force, nor understands the responsibilities that Barry feels, or how Barry feels in general for that matter. She is too self absorbed in him not being there for her when in reality she still had people around her unlike Barry where he truly was alone for 6 months. She blamed him for something that is, quite frankly, not his fault.
It feels like all Iris cares about is dating, regardless of the situation. 2x23, Barry is struggling to come to terms with dealing with his Dads, and instead of Iris being there as support, she turns around and says, "idk Barry, you'll have to figure out a way before it tears you apart", offering useless advice, then further in the episode, "you've lost a lot in this life Barry ... But maybe you and I should try this out, see where this thing goes" during a time where Barry is grieving for his Dad. Instead of respecting his space or trying to help through his tough times, she wants to go on a date, and Barry rightfully declines, "I feel so hollow inside ... I need to fix what is wrong with me". The sad part is, shes known him since a kid and cannot even help out in the slightest. 3x23, Barry, Iris and Jo are all cool with someone else other than Iris dying. This is a dig at all 3 of them, thats just so munted, like, HR was basically a disposable character that they just tossed aside without a care in the world, damn you Barry, thats just shameful.
I really wish I could like Iris as a character, season 1 showed so much potential and it all just went downhill. Irises character arc is virtually nonexistent, besides being a love interest for the main hero then being forced into leadership of team flash (which they were doing just fine before Iris came along, its almost insulting to see someone with Ciscos and caitlins intelligence and Barry's experience on the field to be getting bossed around by someone not nearly as skilled/equipped/qualified to do). She was at her best when she was a journalist in season 1, if they continued her arc there and if the writers put in time and effort to develop her character, she might be more likable as a character. Sure, Barry has his major flaws, most notable in season 3 when he basically forgot about everyone else and only focused on saving Iris when caitlin has been healing his injuries for years and when she finally needs help with training/controlling her powers they are too busy elsewhere. The only one redeeming quality that I actually liked about Iris was during 4x16, when after she returned Barry's speed, she realised just how difficult it was to be on the field and actually gained an appreciation for what Barry does, but even then it was a few minutes of Iris actually being a good character, when earlier that episode she take his speed, she rubbed it in shown by "wow running on water is Soo fun" and "This is amazing" in front of Barrys face. A few minutes worth in over 100 episodes does not redeem her overall poorly written character.
I would love to know why like the WestAllen relationship, help me understand, because so far the only real arguments I see from you is that people are "PEOPLE HUNG UP ON ANOTHER PERSON'S SKIN COMPLEXION, RACE SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS, AND POLITICAL AFFILIATION AND RELIGIOUS PREFERENCES SO THAT PEOPLE ARE MORE DIVIDED AND MISGUIDED ABOUT OTHER CLASSES OF PEOPLE", which to me almost sounds like you are the racist one, wanting Barry to be with Iris because of her colour and ethnic background rather than her being an actual character. I know your better than that, and I am sure you have your reasons not to like Caitlin or Patty or Linda, and thats fine, everyone can have their own opinions. As a side note, I love well thought out characters, key word being characters. One of my favourite movies is in fact remember the titans, as I love the growth of each individual character, whether they were white or african american. I also love strong female characters (Ripley, princess leia, and katniss just to name a few). I am sure many disagree with me, I am also sure therell be people with similar views, but you don't really know us, nor do I know you too well, so please help me out and give me your reasons why you like WestAllen, its all I ask really

I saw potential in Barry and Caitlin from the first episode. They could relate to each other, because Barry lost his mother and Caitlin lost her husband. They could help each other deal with their grief and find a new type of happiness with each other. I wish they'd get together.
Those little conversations, interactions, eye contacts between Barry and Caitlin is just awesome,

WEST-ALLEN dynamic that went from Iris and Eddie to Barry and Iris after Eddie died..
While Iris was mourning for the death of Eddie Thawn, Barry Allen saw it as the PERFECT OPPORTUNITY to make his move towards getting Iris to think about him instead of continuing to close herself off and not open herself up again to the POSSIBILITY of FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN. And Barry wanted to make sure that He was Iris's choice when the time came..

I wish the writers would have given them a chance. I totally ship it. No offense to Iris and all. See this is why I think. Barry loves Iris but he's IN love with Caitlyn and that's not gonna change. Even tho in season 3 Barry and Iris are getting married, I think that is a HUGE mistake. I'm sorry for all the westallen shippers but I can't help but think of all the what ifs, if Caitlyn and Barry we're together. Caitlyn wouldn't have gone through the pain of loosing Jay because she would have been with Barry and she would be happy. She wouldn't have became Killer Frost because Iris loving Barry wasn't enough for him so he went and fucked the timeline even more from creating Flashpoint. Caitlyn IS enough for him and you can see that.
