I think one of the problems is that companies can't handle failure because of how much money they put into the idols, so when they flop, they believe that the only way to save them is by getting the public's attention with sexual concepts. After all, any publicity is good publicity. That way, people will speak about the group and clicks = $$

noah joseph DAVID firstly, your English isn’t bad at all, so don’t worry about it :) secondly, I understand what you’re saying and even agree to a certain extent, however, as I said before, my issue with it isn’t how they’re viewed/categorized by others or how their moves are repetitive/unoriginal, what annoys me is that it wasn’t their choice to alter the moves - it was someone else who forced them to do so. If they felt that their moves weren’t cutting it and changed them because of that, then fine, good for them, but they didn’t choose to discontinue using them, other people did which is humiliating for them since they can’t stand up for themselves without risking losing everything. Yeah, most of these i don’t get, but there’s a few that make me uncomfortable for sure. Especially when you know some of them are barely dance moves, they’re practically just sex positions, created by grown men for teen girls to dance, and at that point it’s not even liberated female sexuality, just exploitation. And the floor dance of Something was a callback to Adult Ceremony, which was about an underage girl finally reaching age and giving her virginity to an adult man who had been pursuing her, and the artist was barely 18 when it was performed, didn’t understand what she was singing about, and has expressed discomfort with it since. So I can see why people would be mad about that.

Well I do kinda agree most of these are inappropriate or sexually suggestive. Since the audiences obviously arent just adults but also underage kids. But I would like that music shows ban boy groups' choreos that have such moves too when they ban girl groups' ones, just to be fair.

Some were really uncomfortable to watch! Taking in consideration the conservative culture of the country and "Asia" in general, some were really too much. Agencies should do better for their artists.

I'm not sure which side I'm on but it all depends on the artists, if they are actually uncomfortable doing it then changing it is better. On the case of Hyuna, she's clearly comfortable so I'm glad she didn't change her dance. This goes for both bg and gg, in my opinion. They can spread their legs as wide as they go for performances like that. No prob. Go for it. The problem is when it's being broadcasted to multiple ages in the general public. There is a thing called censorship, and it's what's keeping a lot of these moves from being performed. I don't agree with some of these moves being censored, but there are some that I do. Unless they're going to start taking ID cards at the doors for their shows to guarantee that the audience is 18+ (or whatever the age is for adults in S Korea, I don't know) then I think it makes sense for some of these moves to be modified.
Just a suggestion to put the "before" video while explaining the problems in it, then show the "after" video. Putting them side by side made it harder to see the comparison when you're busy looking for the problem in the first video, made me had to repeat the video to understand what happened after it's fixed.

If you're intentionally trying to create a "sexy" image of yourself, then trying to be sexy and trying to be sexualized are synonymous. The problem here is that many (if not most) of these female idols do not have a role in choreography and therefore are sexualized by their companies, not on their own accord
MMD-Determinat-ion There’s no need to say “stop sexualizing women.” Women are sexual beings as much as men are. If a woman wants to dance sexily, then she should be able to. The reason why these dance moves are banned (and equally sexual dances by males aren’t) is because people aren’t comfortable with women being sexual or provocative unless men are in control of the situation. That’s why men like innocent “never-been-touched” shy virgins as opposed to women who know what they’re doing. People just shouldn’t overreact when they see women being sexual because sex is natural to all people, male or female. **I do want to add, though, these women (sometimes minors) in idol groups are not usually in control of the situation. A lot of girl groups are forced into overly sexy choreography that honestly looks kinda weird and trashy because their companies (the shitty companies that no one knows) want to make groups famous through shock value and super sex appeal (since porn is officially illegal in Korea). You can tell the difference between the choreography of girl groups that are trying too hard versus the choreography of an artist like Hyuna or Gain or Sunmi who have said they enjoy sexy concepts. They seem more natural and comfortable and they aren’t doing something super cringy and weird. Bottom line is: the music industry (wherever you go) is always trying to sexualize people (especially in pop music) because “sex sells.” And regardless of a sexy concept or a cute concept, it’s still sexual. I have some guy friends who don’t listen to a single Kpop song but they know all the girls names in Twice and Gfriend etc. you’d be surprised how many guys jerk off to cutesy Kpop music videos. Those super short schoolgirl outfits and bent-over “cute” dance moves aren’t fooling anyone. I think it's not sexual at all, she just does split like Seohyun did in You Think. But Seo admitted that it was too painful to do, hence why she didn't do it again. Maybe it's the same for Lisa.
It is funny that many of these banned dances were actually "unbanned" if we could say it like that. AOA and EXID perfomed the originall coreography, the "air split step on the floor" was "allow" but the camera is far, example the back up dancer in I'm the best by 2NE1 at MAMA, their last performance. As well, BEG were allow to perform half of the gain break as the original, without the dancers touching gain, but the other part was complete. Something that got my attention when Hyeosong performed In to You is that sometimes the female dancer went too far with the touching, in the Dream Concert, the dancer basically touch and squeeze Hyeosong's breast and because it was recorded and broadcasted live, the camera man didn't have the time to do a different close up so, basically you can see all.
I just truly believe that it was unnecessary for these idol groups to tone things down in their choreography and lyrics to their songs with a understandable exception of Red Velvet toning things down a bit with a little change to their choreography to "Ice Cream Cake" due to the fact that Yeri was underaged at that time. Yep, they had to change it following some outrage over seeing Yeri moving her butt while she was on the floor during the rap part of the song. And now that Yeri is no longer underaged, well, hopefully the ENTIRE group will get to do their original "Ice Cream Cake" choreography sometime during a performance from here on out. And oh yeah, I almost forgot. After the horrible and devastating deaths of best friends Sulli and Goo Hara, well, first of all, of course everyone should completely change the way they react when they see female idols go braless, wear revealing clothing on stage and off of it, show off sexually charged choreography to their songs, etc. That is all. And second of all though, I hope that the KCC and all major Korean broadcasting and radio stations will finally be able to soon end censorship against female idols and go for censoring the ACTUAL problematic content from here on out.

If they felt that their moves weren’t cutting it and changed them because of that, then fine, good for them, but they didn’t choose to discontinue using them, other people did which is humiliating for them since they can’t stand up for themselves without risking losing everything. Yeah, most of these i don’t get, but there’s a few that make me uncomfortable for sure. Especially when you know some of them are barely dance moves, they’re practically just sex positions, created by grown men for teen girls to dance, and at that point it’s not even liberated female sexuality, just exploitation.
And the floor dance of Something was a callback to Adult Ceremony, which was about an underage girl finally reaching age and giving her virginity to an adult man who had been pursuing her, and the artist was barely 18 when it was performed, didn’t understand what she was singing about, and has expressed discomfort with it since. The problem is when it's being broadcasted to multiple ages in the general public. There is a thing called censorship, and it's what's keeping a lot of these moves from being performed. I don't agree with some of these moves being censored, but there are some that I do.
Unless they're going to start taking ID cards at the doors for their shows to guarantee that the audience is 18+ (or whatever the age is for adults in S Korea, I don't know) then I think it makes sense for some of these moves to be modified.
Just a suggestion to put the "before" video while explaining the problems in it, then show the "after" video. Putting them side by side made it harder to see the comparison when you're busy looking for the problem in the first video, made me had to repeat the video to understand what happened after it's fixed.

The reason why these dance moves are banned (and equally sexual dances by males aren’t) is because people aren’t comfortable with women being sexual or provocative unless men are in control of the situation. That’s why men like innocent “never-been-touched” shy virgins as opposed to women who know what they’re doing. People just shouldn’t overreact when they see women being sexual because sex is natural to all people, male or female. **I do want to add, though, these women (sometimes minors) in idol groups are not usually in control of the situation. A lot of girl groups are forced into overly sexy choreography that honestly looks kinda weird and trashy because their companies (the shitty companies that no one knows) want to make groups famous through shock value and super sex appeal (since porn is officially illegal in Korea). You can tell the difference between the choreography of girl groups that are trying too hard versus the choreography of an artist like Hyuna or Gain or Sunmi who have said they enjoy sexy concepts. They seem more natural and comfortable and they aren’t doing something super cringy and weird. Bottom line is: the music industry (wherever you go) is always trying to sexualize people (especially in pop music) because “sex sells.” And regardless of a sexy concept or a cute concept, it’s still sexual. I have some guy friends who don’t listen to a single Kpop song but they know all the girls names in Twice and Gfriend etc. you’d be surprised how many guys jerk off to cutesy Kpop music videos. It is funny that many of these banned dances were actually "unbanned" if we could say it like that. AOA and EXID perfomed the originall coreography, the "air split step on the floor" was "allow" but the camera is far, example the back up dancer in I'm the best by 2NE1 at MAMA, their last performance. As well, BEG were allow to perform half of the gain break as the original, without the dancers touching gain, but the other part was complete. Something that got my attention when Hyeosong performed In to You is that sometimes the female dancer went too far with the touching, in the Dream Concert, the dancer basically touch and squeeze Hyeosong's breast and because it was recorded and broadcasted live, the camera man didn't have the time to do a different close up so, basically you can see all.

I just truly believe that it was unnecessary for these idol groups to tone things down in their choreography and lyrics to their songs with a understandable exception of Red Velvet toning things down a bit with a little change to their choreography to "Ice Cream Cake" due to the fact that Yeri was underaged at that time. Yep, they had to change it following some outrage over seeing Yeri moving her butt while she was on the floor during the rap part of the song. And now that Yeri is no longer underaged, well, hopefully the ENTIRE group will get to do their original "Ice Cream Cake" choreography sometime during a performance from here on out.
And oh yeah, I almost forgot. After the horrible and devastating deaths of best friends Sulli and Goo Hara, well, first of all, of course everyone should completely change the way they react when they see female idols go braless, wear revealing clothing on stage and off of it, show off sexually charged choreography to their songs, etc. That is all. And second of all though, I hope that the KCC and all major Korean broadcasting and radio stations will finally be able to soon end censorship against female idols and go for censoring the ACTUAL problematic content from here on out.
