I have an updated video that also shows how the animations at the start of this video are done. You can see it here ua-cam.com/video/ObFu85J_OvQ/v-deo.html
What always comes to mind about these tutorials is that Serge is the best. I can't say it enough. There are other FCPX tutorial people that I like but Serge is the man. I can't wait to try this out.
Yes please, some Motion tutorials would be great. I really like your teaching style. I appreciate you showing the way most would be inclined to do a certain task, but then showing a better way. Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks for taking the time to detail each step exactly. Sometimes UA-cam tutorials jump steps and it can be confusing. But your explanations are super clear. I'm definitely going to try this.
Love this video, very helpful. I've watched it a dozen times to use an adjustment layer to do split screen, but one problem keeps occurring...the adj. layer (mountain scene in this case) on the TOP video remains on one half, covering the LOWER video clip. I've tried everything to fix it. Any suggestions...??
Hi Serge, Yes would like to know how to do it in Apple motion. Could you please do a video to explain that. Also how do we get the black bar and animate each clip as shown in your intro. Thank you. Love all your videos.
Great! But the split screen in your INTRO looks much better than the final result of the tutorial)) What about a tutorial how to make the animated split screen and also with black borders?
The black borders can be achieved by just trimming an extra few pixels off the clip. So, for a split down the middle with a black border, instead of trimming 960 pixels, just trim off 970 or more. Depending on how thick you want the border to be. Hope this helps!
@@Serge1913 Not sure if you've made that tutorial yet (on the key framed intro) but I would love to see that too. This one was very helpful, and that would take it to the next level!
Hé Serge, are you stil working on the Split Screen plugin for Patron members? I am interested. Thanks for all your amazing videos. I really enjoy them.
Enjoying your channel Serge. Thanks for the great tutorials. Was wondering Serge can you have a split screen section zoom to fit the whole screen, with that clip being extended out past the transition split screen, to be on only clip on the timeline. Don't know if that question makes sense. Thanks Serge.
you are amazing sir its really helping me a lot . I really appreciatefor your hard work and kind heart . really thank you so much its mean a lot. GOD Bless You
I noticed that when you made the grids, there were no borders. How do you add black or white borders (or space) between the videos like in the video in the beginning with the black borders between the shots?
Thanks for the video Serge. QUESTION though....HOW did you make the intro like that? 1 video full screen then animate to side by side then animate a video from top to drop to half screen and etc? Please help on that part!!!! Or anyone that reads this, please
This is great info, Serge! Thank you! Would you please show us how you did the intro video for this lesson? I’m curious as to how you made two panels appear, then 4, and then 5. Can you give us your breakdown of that? Thanks!
Wow, epic job!!!! I always thought it was a plugin, however, your tutorial was quick and to the point. Excellent job, keep up the great work; I'm a fan; mahalo!
Another great video Serge! Thank you for posting. Please can you recommend a Final Cut Pro Plugin that would be best to have the screen split in two halves (side by side) where one side has the talking head and the other has animated text? I am trying to make a teaching video with my talking head on one half and my corresponding topic notes being animated on the other half.
For sure. When you trim the adjustment layer, instead of going exactly half of the frame size (ie - 960 pixels), trim off a little bit more, about 970 pixels. Do the same to the other side, and you have a black divider between frames. If you want a color different than black, add a solid generator to the bottom of your timeline and pick whatever color you want. Hope this helps
Awesome! Great information! Thank you! YES!!!! I would love to see how to make this a preset using Motion! Thanks in advance!!! Keep up the great work!
Great Tutorial Thanks. Is there an easy way to split the screen multiple times, say 30 times, to record an orchestra doing a lockdown performance? Any help would be appreciated.
This was super useful, thank you so much. If I wanted to add borders to the different screens how would I go about that? And what about shapes like circles and in and out transitions? I like the flexibility the adjustment layer offers, if you have any videos or tips on combining the adjustment layer with borders and transitions/animations I would grateful.
Hi Serge i have a question what would be best codec to export and edit in FCPX I usually Export to Apple pro res 422 you have mentioned in your older vidos h264 I want to have optimal editing performance not compressed too much and so the videobis in good quality on UA-cam or my personal library. What you would recommended, thank you
I splitted the screen into 4 successfully. Thanks. However, the x and y coordinates are not so tightly fixed. I tried few times but it still does not look diagonally symmetric. Don't know why.
How do you go about this if you’re creating an edit with multiple clips? Say multiple short clips on top of each other? Having trouble with some clips being split perfectly while a couple clips are showing up spaced out.
I would love to make a video for visually impaired. Would you want to chat, just so I have a better understanding. If you do, feel free to email me. serge@1913media.com
@@Serge1913 I have the 2014 MacBook Pro 15-inch right now... I have to sit up in bed with a back pillow partly so the blood doesn’t pool in my legs and feet... If I were to do any high power stuff like video editing, my MacBook would get way too hot and burn me even with a blanket barrier...
Thank you, great tutorial. With three layers, if they were 4k would the base model Macbook Pro 16 i7 5300 handle this with a lut applied? and would playback be smooth without proxies, looking to change from Premiere elements, so trying to learn as much about apple as possible. Thanks again!
There are so many variables that it’s impossible to answer your question. But using proxies is the standard way to easily edit multiple 4k streams. Oh, and don’t forget to factor in $300 for the nicest editing program you can buy: FCPX!
Serge, I love putting videos or pictures in titles like you showed on a previous video. Is there any way you can outline each letter to make it stand out better. Thanks
You should be able to add the same title above your compound clip, and in the inspector, check the outline box and uncheck the face box. That should do what you need. Let me know if it works

the effect we never asked for, but the effect we absolutely need ❤️❤️❤️👌
Cheers!
I would love to see the motion version! Nice work!
Thanks Chris!
Newbie at this and a revelation as to control points / calculating for shapes ...and insights into adjustment layer usage - thanks Serge!
Always happy to help!
Thanks for the vid! Q: why do you need an adjustment layer? What exactly is that doing?
Dude, you are my go-to for anything Final Cut related. Excellent as usual.
