I’m with you about lunch. I fantasized apparently, about stopping and preparing and eating a leisurely lunch. Never happened. I ended up with fa too little snacks for the day and far too many more complicated things to eat that I never ate.
this is a great video! not only was the content great but I loved your enthusiasm and way of talking to the camera that kept me engaged and interested in everything you said. this is the first vid of yours I've watched -- definitely subscribing!
I wanted to hike the AT since the early 70s. I got lost with my brother while camping at Big Meadows campground in the Shenandoahs by mistakenly getting on the AT instead of a campground trail. After being tracked down by a park ranger and being told we were on a trail that went from Georgia to Maine it got into my blood. I wanted to hike it every since. In the mid 80s I married my second husband and we went for a weekend backpacking trip on the AT in mid VA. I was so excited to go, but started to get a UTI. I hid it from my husband because I didn't want him to call off the trip. I was miserable but kept hiking for 3 days and 2 nights. By the end I was so sick, I hardly remember the trip. Huge mistake. After we got back to the truck I told him we needed to get home fast and I ended up in the emergency room peeing blood. I'll never make that mistake again. Don't ignore your health. Next Spring at 62 yo, I will finally be attempting a flip-flop thru hike of the AT. I'll make sure I dont put off any health concerns before I go.
Oh my gosh, how exciting! And thanks for sharing your story. What a wild experience! Good lesson for us to learn by hearing your story! Let me know how your AT flip flop goes!
My biggest mistake is that I've started 3 thru hikes with no planning (Ct, PCT, and AZT) and no actual mindset to finish. "I'm just going hikin" I say. And then I last about 1 week and then quit because I knew I wasn't going to finish anyway. Very discouraging. Loved your video, BTW.
So you wish you'd eaten better, and then you also wish you'd sent less boxes? I mailed all my food, and because of that my diet was exactly what I wanted it to be. I had all the macros and healthy food I needed. The few times I tried to resupply it was super annoying because I couldn't portion things the way I wanted and everything was exponentially more expensive.
