When I worked in New Jersey ( nothing against NJ intended), the guys there would steal anything they could. I was not raised that way. Big culture shock for me. I realized something about people: Some people are too proud to steal. Others are too proud NOT to steal. I thought my honor was worth more than that. They thought only an idiot would miss an opportunity to get something for nothing. Almost 30 years ago and I’ve never got over that. Such an eye opener.

I've worked as a dispatch for a patrolling security company for years in Oklahoma. The majority of the dispatches sent my way are people stealing packages from local residents porches. It's a major issue and I'm so glad when we catch these package thieves and even nicer to see these videos where people get justice for these situations. Good job guys!!! 👏
The only problem is he left his vehicle's door wide open when he made a delivery, that's definitely not good or smart. If the thieves were smart, they would have just grabbed several packages directly out of the vehicle while he was delivering. UPS has censors on their vehicles doors,seatbelts, transmissions engines, etc, so if I driver leaves the cargo area door open( rear or front), or engine running during a delivery, which is a company violation, they know it and you will be written up accordingly.
As a FedEx worker in my area packages sometimes don't even get delivered before they get stolen because drivers will call up there buddies and hand over valuable items then say they couldn't deliver it then the package handlers like me get in trouble for it
People who don't press charges, only send the problem to the next victim. So, my level of empathy goes out the window. I'm so glad we live where no one can see any part of our home, or porch, except our daughter, and grandchildren, if they are on their back top step, when the trees are bare.

Some packages contain life saving medications. To home owners, if you’re home: get your packages in as soon as they arrive! Otherwise make a deal with your neighbours to get them (maybe even delivered at their address).
Where I live in Denmark I have never heard of people stealing packages, but I don’t take the chance, so like many people I use a local store where they then get the packages and I get a SMS when the package is ready for pickup, just have to give them the number from the SMS and show ID, or there are self service 24 hours packages boxes just need an app or a code all in waking distance 200-600 meters 🤷♂️ so I always get my package delivered just not to my door

We have delivery boxes in Germany called 'Packstation' (delivery station) and if you are not home to get the packet in person it is rerouted to a packstation and you get a message that your delivery is in the station. By law they have to give you medicine in person or at least to an adult in your household. Children are not allowed to receive a medicine delivery. because of that they try three times to deliver medicine.

In our neighborhood it´s normal to take away parcels to prevent them from being stolen. Some suppliers are giving the parcels to an old lady, knowing she´s always at home. Up to now it was successfull, not a single parcel has been stolen yet.

Because delivery companies are privately owned. The post office is a government agency. To do what you suggest would mean the government having to take over all private delivery companies. And as far as the jail time, prison overcrowding mean that the system has to prioritize. Whose incarceration better serves the public? Violent criminals or properly criminals? As someone who came home from a vacation to find the front door wide open, and the entire home ransacked for valuables I wholeheartedly agree. They only took a couple grand worth of jewelry and some old tablets, stuff they could carry out easily and broke some items that they just dropped or threw to the ground. It was not a huge financial loss but the feeling of violation is horrible, and it took days to put the home back in order. Porch piracy is easy and low risk, like people that rob mailboxes, but the problem is the law is not that strict unless you are stealing actual US mail. They really need to allow that federal charge to porch pirates that steal any delivery, even when it's not USPS because that law has some teeth.

WOW! I wish we had a PD like those people do. In Eugene, Oregon, the police don't respond to people shooting up and smoking coke in residential alleys in broad daylight. They don't respond to homeless men with large knives either. I know because I called them twice for each of those occasions and they never showed. Yes, same here. I had them there for a couple days or many hours in a day but not a couple weeks. Nobody bothers them. I've had my packages end up on my neighbors porch and I've had my neighbors packages here but we all return them to the rightful owner. They only took a couple grand worth of jewelry and some old tablets, stuff they could carry out easily and broke some items that they just dropped or threw to the ground. Porch piracy is easy and low risk, like people that rob mailboxes, but the problem is the law is not that strict unless you are stealing actual US mail. They really need to allow that federal charge to porch pirates that steal any delivery, even when it's not USPS because that law has some teeth.
