  • Explaining how the specifications on the label of a solar panel play into how you can use them with a charge controller or inverter. Depending on the technologies you are using you'll be paying attention to Voc vs. Vmp, I'll explain why.
    Here is the Solar Charge Controller I referenced in the video:

    I should have watched this video before coming out this last weekend. You answered exactly the question I asked! Oh well. That panel looks awesome on top of customers RV, now I'm trying to talk him into adding 1 more.

    How can i identify the 24v solar panels if label is missing

      You can get close by measuring the voltage in full sun. Voltage drops as the cells get hot but if you can measure quick while the panel is at room temp a "24v" panel will be about 37-40v. You can also count the cells. 60 cells is a 24v panel.

    Is 24v or 12 better for gaming

    So the battery can only use its rated voltage so are the large number of volts just wasted?

    • @BeeneEnergy
      @BeeneEnergy  2 роки тому

      If the panel is using a PWM charge controller yes, the extra voltage is wasted. MPPT has a dc to dc conversion circuit inside that still takes advantage of that extra voltage.

    • @precisiont5188
      @precisiont5188 2 роки тому

      How do MPPT charge controllers use the extra voltage if the battery can only take about 13 volts for a 12 volt battery? Does it somehow convert it into amps?

      @BeeneEnergy  2 роки тому

      @@precisiont5188 I won’t pretend to be an expert in electronics. The way I understand it the mppt charge controller does the job of finding the optimal power poly (voltage and current) and once it brings that power in sends it through a buck converter so that as much of the power (watts) gets to the battery as possible. No matter what voltage the battery is at.
      So you could have a 40vmp panel at 10imp charge a battery at 13v 30a.

      I’ve still got those on a pallet at the warehouse. We don’t ship though, so you’d have to be within driving distance of Mansfield tx!
