I'm not sure exactly to be honest. It's mostly Nitrogen being added, very little Carbon. Unlike a thermophilic pile where the ratio matters more, vermicomposting is a pretty forgiving method.
Great question! The main critters I’m interested in keeping at Bay are rodents and other large animals that might dig around in there. Keeping the pile well covered with straw, leaves, carbon type material helps. You don’t want any food scraps peeking out! the sowbugs are fine and a natural part of vermicomposting. My pile has many insects besides worms and it’s totally okay and expected!
