Yea, when I first heard Phoenix, it reminded me of this band quite a lot. But I don't really like Phoenix (Besides their top song, Lisztomania) because most of their songs seem to be slow. Plus I really like the sound of the instruments/music in The Royal Concept a lot better :p
No. Phoenix came first. /They/ sound like Phoenix. And the guitar riff is ripped from the Strokes’ “Machu Pichu”. The evidence is damning in terms of copyright. I like this track but if I was their copy right lawyer, I would sweat given their clear influence from strokes, and Phoenix stuff.
I had a digital version of an EP when it was released then, within a year, it's like it disappeared. Last time I saw them at a concert they didn't play it either. You can't find it anywhere anymore. (but here)
I would imagine there would be a Strokes lawsuit given that it sounds similar to “Machu Pichu”, and the pre chorus sounds like the “its never been like that” part from Phoenix’s “long distance call”, and possibly an interpolation of Arctic Monkey’s “Mardy bum” in the vocal breakdown on the second half. Some of their songs seem like a copyright nightmare tbh😅
